Here we are running the 1937 Bendix Eclipse SM (Single Magneto) outboard. This is a 5.01 CID motor and develops 2.25hp. It is an all-original motor, it has not been restored. The SM and brother SB (Single Battery ignition) were offered only in 1937, the batter model may have been available in 1936. These motors were replaced with the Bendix SMD, Single Magneto Deluxe starting in 1938. Bendix was only in the outboard business through about 1940 - see my video on the Bendix Twin for additional information.
This motor was found at a yard sale only 1/4 mile from my house! It belonged to the seller's father and had been tucked into their garage since the mid 1950s. A friend happened to spy it at the sale and called me at work, based on his description I told him to buy it for the $25 asking price - then I just prayed that it didn't turn out to be an Eska. It was a great surprise to find such a nice motor so close to home - they're still out there!!!
