The 3 girls at the start are Perfume. They're one of the biggest Japanese pop groups and are friends with OK Go (OK Go also cameos at the start of their video "Pick Me Up"). Perfume is also the "big sister group" to Babymetal and share the same talent agency & choreographer, along with the same hometown as Su-metal (Hiroshima). Honestly, their visuals are super compelling. The colors and artistry in these is so well thought out. It's funny because the music is what usually draws me into checking out a band, but OKGo! caught my eye with their videos and then We became fans of the music after. In my opinion, THE best OK GO video is "This Too Shall Pass". Just mindblowing, and I don't even want to imagine how many takes it took them to get it right. Do yourselves a favor and watch that one...
They found out the guy who did the synchronized swimming scenes in the old movies was still alive and they called him for advice on how to do this video and he said they would film everyone moving in slow motion and speed it up and that would minimize visually any mistakes. So that's what they did. So it's cool you mentioned the old movies.
Nope! I remember their first music video, which is called 'Get Over It'. They play their instruments, and their music used to be more rock oriented (in the early days). They weren't boyband at all. 😄

it's not that boy bands members can't play (as in "don't know how to play"), it's the labels that are not interested in them playing. Just to cite a few examples, Backstreet Boys members know how to play instruments, TOKIO (a japanese boy band) play all the instruments when performing live, Kanjani8 (another japanese boy band) also play their instruments and I bet there are more (I don't know why I'm defending them so much, I'm not even a fan - only a BSB fan, cause I'm a late 80's child)
“Boybands can’t play instruments” actually Take That’s Gary is very well known for composing the songs and playing piano on them. Also, if we want to apply the cultural definition of what boybands are, Beatles were definitely the biggest boyband in history and they definitely could play their instruments. But also, I don’t get where the boyband thing comes from? Is it just because they learnt a choreography? Anyway, there are no bad boys in Ok Go. They are all rays of pure sunshine. Maybe Andy might be the one who looks less hype all the time, but it seems it’s because he’s more reserved than the others. Anyway, hope you ended up watching all of their videos because they are just pure awe and happiness.
Calculate the difficulty level if you dare! Shot at double speed, from a drone which has to be controlled to get the perfect dhot at all times while choreographing HOW many performers? Meanwhile the talent is riding on some strange foreign tech that looks as difficult to control as a hoverboard or segway. I would put the difficulty level at well over 9000!
