The tera fire tera blast kyurem is NOT gonna sugarcoat this: 252 SpA Choice Specs Tera Fire Kyurem Tera Blast (80 BP) vs. 252 HP / 252+ SpD Bronzong: 254-302 (75.1 - 89.3%) -- guaranteed 2HKO after Leftovers recovery
don't let his cute facade fool you, he's a shell of his former self that's committed aggravated manslaughter in at least 5 states and is on the run from authorities as we speak, banning him from OU will give him less places to hide from the eye of the law
"What do you mean Kyurem is broken??? My...ehm...specially defensive scizor beats him all the time! You're just not good at the game!" "Just to know, how point do you have in ranked?" "1100, why?"
AV Scizor is legit tho, checks Darkrai, Kyurem, etc. and with Wish support it can even last a little longer than 10 turns! Plus it's only getting better now that Gouging Fire is gone!
Just ban tera at this point, it wouldn’t necessarily solve the Kyurem issue but it’s the reason why so many mons are seen as “broken”. You literally teraed Kyurem in all these examples.
I’ll miss kyurem if it gets banned. It was probably the key mon that allowed me to finally ladder 1600s after many years of playing. Did I take advantage of a broken Mon to do it? Maybe. But I’ll always fondly think of it for that. But also yeah as someone who used kyurem this shit is crazy bro is so strong
Kyurem is really hard to deal with, the big problem is that you never see it coming, and not seeing it coming can literally lose you the game, it's incredibly unreasonable, even more than Gouging Fire and i truly think the meta would be better without it.
I was gonna make a joke how Mega Mawile could OHKO Kyurem and thank Game Freak for needlessly cutting content but when running the calcs, uninvested Earth Power from Kyurem does 80% to Mega Mawile anyway thanks to its naturally good SpAtk, so that's out. As always, Pokemon's game design rewarding coin flips and rock-paper-scissors psychology and luck over actual skill.
Still gonna vote DNB on this mon like I did in the first suspect. Kyurem still comes across to me as the same MU fish Pokémon it did during the first suspect. Appearance of new sets like subtect doesn't really change anything on that front. In fact I find that set to be even more MU fishy because of its vulnerability to hazards (esp T-Spikes). Don't really buy that this mon is killing balance when half the teams running it are balance teams. And really, other Pokémon like SD Scor, Oger-W, and even Manaphy limit balance much more anyways. Balance also has very easy auto-includes like zama and Garganacl which are hard for kyurem to break. I've also been trying to slot in a few more niche Pokémon such as Sylveon or Fezandipti which can cook Kyu, as while having good MUs into stuff like Val, pult, and bolt. Gen 9 gamers complain about hazard removal being shit yet this mon is also weak to Rocks with these supposed "broken" sets like dice DD and subtect. You can't even use the arguemrnt this mon is hard locked to HO to get around this issue since it's mainly balance / BO running kyu. This mon is higher risk lower reward than many other Pokémon like Darkrai, Zama, Ghold, Raging Bolt, Valiant, moon, pult, Gliscor, and even manaphy. I wouldnt vote ban on any of these Pokemon. Still gonna vote DNB.
The fact that your opening statement mentions using Toxic Spikes to limit subtect sets, and the multiple mentions of Manaphy make it very difficult to take this seriously.
When they did the first suspect test I’m not sure how Kyreum made it. Slowking-G chilly into Blizzard is GG for balance, bulky balance, semi stall. It was a nightmare. But somehow, Kyurem made it passed that…so now I’m just kinda like fuck it. Let’s keep them all. GF also made passed the first suspect test. Once again I didn’t see how. Still confused about Kinggambit. Literally every sweeper just started running sub because or encore. This wasn’t because that’s where the meta lead us…its because king gambit existed. These are very useful options though.
I personally like variety in sets for Pokémon, makes it unique. This is why I adore Mew, nobody knows what you'll do so you can have alot of fun with it
The difference is that mew doesn't sweep your team if you guess wrong. Variety is good, see gen 3 ttar for example, but there still needs to be reliable counterplay.
Also a big fan of set variety and it's smth I miss from older gens, like gen 4 tran, but like others said when each set has vastly different counters that are fairly limited ESPECIALLY with a mechanic like Tera it's too much
Variety in sets by itself doesn't make a mon broken, Iron Valiant is in the same tier after all. It's this variety coupled with insane breaking power and the ability to just sweep the entire team if the set isn't scouted for properly that breaks Kyurem
Bax had EQ for DD sets, ice shard for priority, alternative dragon stab via glaive rush, and a burn immunity. It's a case of being more immediately problematic me thinks, though kyurem is also giga bonkers
Kyurem can run Physical and Special sets, whereas Baxcalibur is predictable but far stronger on the physical side. Basically, Baxcalibur had no answers and Kyurem has very few answers plus you have to guess.
deo-s is fine tbh i can see it being OU next gen too or lower doesnt have much success without lele giving it a proper terrain buff to abuse its psycho boosts and expanding forces and far better hazard setups exist
Stall is nearly as strong as it has ever been post Goug ban. It just eats the current bulky offense meta alive. Without goug healing it's chip throughout the match, stall wins.
Lots of HO and bulky offense in the meta right now, you could definitely argue stall is stronger than ever-- but that's still not very strong. I'd say it's the weakest archetype right now.
its an unwrapping problem, once you ban kyurem, with no other viable users of freeze dry wogerpon gets even more out of hand and who knows what other ripples it would cause but kyurem still definately needs to go
Oger is broken already, Kyurem ban will only make it slightly (VERY slightly) worse, but yea, if ripple effects make other things broken (which I find unlikely, Kyurem has no significant defensive presence), then we ban those things too.
@@pinkacross2042 im just bummed out by the decrease in diversty that would have. I know diversty isnt a good thing, but man is it a huge fun factor in gen9. It would also suck for the lower tiers to be forced into a tera ban aswell.
I mean, I can undestand not directly ban tera because that's the unique mechanic of the 9 gen and they usually don't want to touch the main mechanic (unless it's something super ridiculous like dynamax) (Idk if you count gems as gen 5 mechanic but that gen is all broken soo), but tera unrestricted is pretty clear that it's kinda problematic. They absolutly need to do something to restrict its application because more that half of the bans of this gen wouldn't been here without the tera.
seriously, tera is such a fun mechanic to use and play against but completely uncompetitive as it just breaks so many pokemon it's almost as if some pokemon were designed with the intention of having type weaknesses
@benshulz4179 I never found Tera fun. All it does is allow bad players to get out of situations they were pinned in by better players. Or it encourages hyper offense since the Tera gives a psuedo-life orb boost
its not broken solely because of tera tbh. kyurem mostly tera for the two tera blast sets, which are inconsistent because they are so tera hungry. its best sets don't need to tera as much
@@nstar6412I feel it’s the reason why so many ‘mons get banned nowadays. Especially the setup sweepers, one turn to set up (in the case of Bacxcalabr, Annihilape, Volcarona, Espathra, etc) and it’s a wrap for a lot of games
@@nstar6412because it tends to encourage offensive style and often leads into unnecessary coin flips. Many teams on ladder abuse tera by match up fishing and it’s extremely unfair to play those kind of games. It also indirectly nerfs stall and semi stall by buffing damage overall, leading to even less defensive paystyle, leading to even more match up fishing. Tera is just an unnecessary offensive mechanism that rewards flippy strategies and hyper offense playstyle.
Just to confirm, when quoting stats around 5:15, these are all 1825+ stats from August 2024, correct? Usually 1695+ is used for tiering, I believe this is due to the 1825+ sample size being somewhat small and volatile.
Do you believe me if I told you lc council would just tell you to get good and stop being a baby if they were ou council and saw this video? Because it's what they have been telling the lc playerbase for the entirety of gen 9. And with tera and being an unavoidably offensive metagame we have a lot of problematic mons that do stuff like Kyurem Even without setup, just tera is enough, but with set up too of course. If Finch bans tera I'll switch metagames to a good council
@@inazuma-fulgur That's actually part of the reason why LC is the one "Lower Tier" (actually its a different format) i never really liked besides the same few pokemon being overpresent since BW and them always keeping uncompetitive Arena Trap & Shadow Tag for way too long.
This was truly an emergency calling. Let´s see If my bad luck on ladder doesn´t play against me once Kyurem is Suspected again. Altho, Darkrai may be suspectested first
I love that Gouging Fire got banned. There's a Gouging Fire set for every team, truly. They started running Tera Dragon Outrage with Substitute, toward the end. There just weren't nearly enough answers.
Kyurem is so strong and with the Snow Defense Buff as well helps take some physical moves which can let it go wild if pivoted in correctly or just to revenge as well. My personal favorite set has been Choice Specs Kyurem and it has gone wild so many times with Glowking getting snow up plus slow pivot. Even counters aren't counters if chipped enough. I have had plenty of Games which I led Specs Kyurem and it just went through the team because couldn't stop it or at least did enough damage to make it hard for the person to maybe come back.
I have really not enjoyed OU the last couple of gens. SV it's a lot of tera into set up, against which you have to get a lot of plays right, while your opponents just has to sends in the mon/mons and threaten the set up. Taunt DD Flying Roaring moon, Zama, Kyurem, the recently banned Gouging Fire, even Valiant even though it's the less egregious of the bunch. SwSh was on the other hand incredibly slow. Not quite GS levels of slow but... Regen cores were just annoyingly good at their job. To me there's just no middle ground to be found. They could be both good and healthy metagames, but every gen everything becomes 10× stronger or 10× bulkier. I'll stick to VGC and lower tiers I guess...
I have a skeliderge balance team using kyurem, its probably one of my most favourite teams I've made though out the gen so if kyurem gets banned, I can't use the beloved team I made
Funny how this mon went from uubl in gen 5 to rubl in gen6-7 then ubers in gen 8 and ou in gen 9 with people wanting it banned Guess the boots ,dd and icicle spear where finally enough to make him ubers
I'm really happy with Smogon setting up the suspect so quickly after the Gouging ban. I would've expected it to take like 3-4 weeks. Only taking 1 was a nice surprise.
yes stopping it defense is sometimes impossible but on the offensive it can be pretty easy, weak to rocks, many attack one hit ko and many pokemon outspeed it even after a scale shot.
if stopping it defensively is sometimes impossible, that's typically a very good reason for a ban-- it has weaknesses, but only offensive teams can exploit them well, all bulky teams have no resources for Kyurem
I hate Kyurem and I disagree with it getting banned. Stealth Rock and Toxic Spikes shuts down the sub/protect Kyurem as long as it doesn't have Wish support or Grassy Terrain. If Kyurem has choice scarf or choice specs, stealth rock and toxic spikes is still great against Kyurem.
@@Renegade77784Shocking that toxic spikes is a part of your argument. The Kyurem user is almost certainly going to have removal or a poison type. And Stealth Rock isn't doing much when they Tera Ground.
@@pinkacross2042 You have to actually switch into the hazard remover to get rid of the hazards which is why you keep a spin blocker or a pokemon who can pressure the spin blocker on offense. For poison types like Glowking, life orb Darkrai destroys most of the hazard removers (Ice Beam for Great Tusk) your job as the player is to make your opponent make switches they don't want to have to make. If your opponent's team has a weakness make use of it. You can put Toxic Spikes back up if they get removed. If you status Kyurem in general with poison or burn it cripples the sub/protect strategy. It's such a vague response to say "the pokemon can tera" as if Kyurem doesn't have to switch in and your opponent has to use Tera to become a Ground type, as if you can't use Tera too.
dd mixed kyurem kinda just slaughters stall as well. blissey can't take icicle spear well, dozo is afraid of freeze dry, in fact all of the common unaware mons are afraid of one of that set's moves. you need a tera steel blissey to even consider checking it, and that prevents you from running tera dark or ghost to check other significant threats.
Tbh the sub DD set is the one that will get it banned, not even because its broken but because its the most annoying to play against. Pressure stall kyurem is really really strong especially with gking support
@@pinkacross2042 I gave it choice band max hp max Def with +attack nature. Because it's fairy type it can switch in on a lot of dragons and dark types and because of it's 120 attack stat the choice band is a decent amount of damage. It also does well Against physical iron valiants. Edit: it might not be the best thing out there but it's a decent revenge killer with it's typing , it's attacks, and intimate. I typically use it alongside alolamola for wish so it has some longevity as it has no recovery moves. Edit2: I didn't do this but I definitely thought about it but you could definitely run a max attack set on tr which might be interesting.
I agree, Waterpon is the worst for balance. Kyurem deserves a ban slightly more overall I'd say, but both absolutely deserve a ban and Waterpon is the mon I want banned most of all.
