not any more. OKC is equal to or has surpassed Tulsa with all of the live music venues. OKC Diamond Ballroom/Tulsa Cains Ballroom, OKC Tower Theater/Tulsa Brady Theater, OKC Paycom Center/Tulsa BOK Center and beyond that OKC wins having the Criterion, Beer City Music Hall, Civic Center, Ponyboy, Blue Note, Blue Door, 89th Street, 51st Street Speak easy, Civic Center Music Hall, The Auditorium at The Douglass, and Zoo Amphitheater

@@zebrajenks I follow at least a dozen Tulsa bands and musicians and exactly one OKC musician, and she actually in in a Tulsa-based band. Zach Bryan and Turnpike are just killing, it and I can't think of a single significant OKC based band that is selling out venues. Blue Door is super cool for and their most noteworthy affiliated musician, John Fulbright is Tulsa based.

@@anthonybielobockie4991 I'm talking about out of state live shows. Use to be Tulsa would get all the good concerts but now OKC is getting more. Tulsa still gets big acts and I'm sure some artists skip OKC because Dallas is only a 3 hour drive.

We moved to Bixby in 2015 closer to my husbands work, Saint Francis Hospital. It’s out of the busy Tulsa area, but close to everything. We love Lake Bixhoma and Oxley Nature Center being out of town. Plus it’s only an hour away from Lake Tenkiller where my husband is from. If you like in town activities, Gathering Place, Ray Harrel Nature Park, Turkey Mountain, Woodward Park, and Hunter Park are good places.

If I had to choose between the two cities, I would choose Oklahoma City. I personally think that OKC possesses the big city vibe. One thing they do need is more professional sports teams. I love the OKC Thunder, but I think it would be a great idea for the NFL and MLB to tap into the OKC market. I feel like a city is validated by its strong economy and having professional sports teams to go along with it.

Tulsa is a better place hands down. IF someone wants the "Bigger city" vibe and offerings of OKC, they should live in Edmond.

I looked for a video about this topic because I think it's interesting that Tulsa is the largest city in the US to be located on Native American reservations, and I'm wondering if it's even something that most people are aware of / if state laws or tribal laws are enforced in a different way than OKC, since no one tends to mention it.

OKC is 1.5m metro in 2022. OKC isn't less dense than Tulsa; OKC maintains a lot of watershed and rural area in its city limits which artificially throw off the density - nobody lives/works in those areas. The actual density in the urban area is actually higher in OKC. OKC has a 'neighborhood vibe' with a large city center, not a small town vibe, with varios 'hoods circling its downtown. Tulsa has one big neighborhood S and E of and connected to it's downtown. Both cities have a big city feel in their downtown, with OKC having the edge being larger with more amenities (particularly since 2000). OKCs industries are Energy, Health Care, Government, Aerospace and Trade; Tulsa as you said is Aerospace and Energy. OKC is the growth area of the state. Id agree with you that back in the early 1980s Tulsa had a better city vibe and was the cooler city by most urban standards, pulling SIGNIFICANTLY above its weight. Now that Tulsa metro is at 1million I don't think that anymore since it's still the same vibe when it was 800K, nothing really new or 1 million worthy. Since about 2000 OKC has changed (recovering from the 1980s oil bust and 1995 bombing) and pulled significantly ahead of the laughing stock it was (for 1million metros at the time), assuming its 'rightful' position as 'the city' in Oklahoma being the bigger, arguably more important city. No one but the most bitter of Tulsan's can deny that OKC is the place to be for the urban/cosmo vibe and its due to OKC realizing what it means to be the largest city and living up to it. I love how OK has two metros above 1m, most states can't claim this. Both have strengths and weaknesses, differences and similarities. If the two metros could get more control of the state legislature, Oklahoma could really accel. If it continues as is then OKC will continue to be the primary growth area for the state but be held back competing nationally with rural focused regulation. You can't go wrong with either city since they're only 100 miles apart but keep in mind if you chose Tulsa you may find an inferiority complex built into the culture there - where they find ways to ignore big brother to the SE. ...

Is Tulsa really cheap than California on the whole? I’ve heard some people say that yea rent is less in OK but I will pay more in other things which will put me at the same level as CA. Its so confusing.

I can weigh in on this a little. About 12 years ago in my previous job I was at a customers home in North Edmond when I was approached and told by their visiting brother that the owner had to be lying there was no way he could have bought the house. I told him I'd be back with something in about an hour. I later returned gave it to him and he became convinced. It was the Saturday real estate section of the paper and after he glanced through it he understood. He was still in California made a little more income then his brother but only had a small home and was happy he could afford it. I met on many occasions people who relocated to okc area after selling home on the west coast bought a much larger house and had money left over. Now the cost of homes here have greatly risen since covid but it's probably still cheaper here to buy.

@burtrussel1535 I'd say the risk of tornados isn't necessary better or worse in any specific area here. May I ask, what frequency do you imagine we are affected by tornados out here in Oklahoma?

Hi. Thanks for reply! To answer your question, Im a complete outsider looking in and I think they probably occur way more than they really do. To me, every tornado would seem like the old movie "twister" with Bill Paxton lol.😬😎

What about the crime rate in OKC ?
@livinginoklahomacityofficial
Hi there - that's a great question and I appreciate you asking. Unfortunately there are certain topics that we are unable to speak about as REALTORS, and crime statistics is one of them (per the Fair Housing Laws). I would definitely encourage you to look into any publicly available crime statistics online, or even call directly any local police departments to learn more. Thanks for watching!

The business diversity between OKC and Tulsa is not even comparable... OKC lives and dies with oil and gas. Always has. Even with their expansion Tulsa is way more diverse with industry, aerospace, communications etc. Tulsa has a port with direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. I really wish that channels like this actually researched better. Tulsa = nearly recession proof while OKC has been cluttered with dead industrial parks and rail yards for years. The oil and gas boom over the last decade has created the boom for OKC... Feast or famine.
