May 10-14,2021 Canoe Trip through the Okefenokee Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. We spent 4 Night and 5 Day in the swamp. We launched at King Fisher Landing and went 12miles up to Maul Hammock on Day 1. Day 2 was about 8miles from Maul Hammock to Big Water. It stormed most of this day and though the night. Day 3 was another 8miles from Big Water to Floyds Island where we spent the night in the 1920s Logging Cabin. Day 4 we had a short 5mile paddle from Floyds Island to Round Top though misty rain once again. Finally, day 5 was 12miles from Round Top back to the Suwannee River Canal Canoe launch where we rented the canoe from. Overall, it was about a 45mile trip though the swamp.

My brother and I did the 3-day northern canoe trail in Xmas 1978. Those lakes are remote since only canoeists w/ permit are allowed, so you'd think abundant fish. I tried w/ worms at several platforms but not a bite. Same thing every time I tried the canal at Kingfisher Landing when passing by. Appears not many sunfish or bass in the swamp, more bowfin and such from youtubes. Raccoons hang out around some platforms, learning naked apes means easy pilfering.

holy heck that gator on the way to Floyd’s island would have made me turn right back around 🤣

Okefenokee Swamp has more gators than we have ever seen in one place before, but they are really chill and don't bother you unless you provoke it! They just like to splash around and make a scene...very dramatic! lol.

Thank for sharing! I've been looking at going here for maybe one or two lights I've heard the mosquitoes are like vultures down there lol and is there any phone service around?

phone service is spotty at best! you will hit a few spots that it will work, but if you find them the best thing is to sit your phone down and talk on the speaker. any movement will disconnect you. i have a pile of videos on my channel that may help you plan your trip. the skeeters can be brutal at times, but it is really only first thing in the morning or late in the evening that they get rough, take your bug dope and a thermacell. the worst critter down there is a yella fly, they won't be out till summer but i hate them suckers!

This trip was early May and the mosquitoes came out blood thirsty as soon as the sun set! We hammock camped on every platform and had bugnets. Mosquitoes and Yellow flies were never really present for us during the daylight hours; granted there was a unique cold front moving though at the time which kept temps in the 60s for early May!! Like Chris commented; make sure you bring the bug spray!!

We had pretty good service at Mail Hammock and then patchy at Round Top but no where else; that was with Verizon.

I’m trying to decide between two different 2 night trips. One would be kingfisher-maul hammock-big water- Stephen c foster. The other would be kingfisher-bluff lake-round top-Suwannee canal. I’ve never been to the Okefenokee and maybe you can’t go wrong either way but which route would you prefer??

Those are two great routes! I have been to all of those locations except Bluff Lake. The first one is going to be more of a swamp while the second is more of an open "grassland". The paddle back into Stephen C. Foster (Paddling though cypress trees) is much nicer than the Suwannee Canal (the Canal is what you think a long straight open cut through the swamp, we did not see much there). Round Top was the prettiest camp that is the thumbnail image. Overall you cannot go wrong but for your first time I would recommend the first one due to spending more time in the swamp. Safe Travels and BRING BUG SPRAY!!
