Todd Howard (Game director of fallout and executive producer of the show) said that Lucy pointing her gun at the random guy was a reference to how players walk around and talk to people with their gun out
The hilarious thing about the fight in Filly is that Lucy only ever sees Maximus being a badass - all of his stumbles and screw-ups are exclusively when he's not in her line of sight. From her POV, he did everything right and blasted off into the sunset like a hero 😂😂😂
People definitely don't give Maximus enough credit, though. Dude learned to fly the suit in a day. They also think he fumbled the gun, but he didn't. The Ghoul shot it out of his hand, you can see the impact spark. Another game reference, you can do that in VATS.
@@darksaviorx001 Eh, it's not really that. VATS doesn't really exist in the universe, it's just a gameplay mechanic for targeting specific areas of the body, anyone can really do that. Any slow-motion shot where you see the bullet heading towards a target is just a nod to the players. He 100% has Small Guns/Gunslinger and Bloody Mess though, lol. And probably Better Criticals.
He did save her life when he shielded her from the Ghoul's bullet, though. Maximus is like a player fumbling their way through the game on their first playthrough, trying to do the right thing but often going about it the wrong way. The Ghoul is like a guy who's already beat the game 50 times.
In the game both stimpacks and food heal you from damage. So after he's shot he eats some tomatoes and is fine. Also, Ghouls are extremely resilient and long lived due to their mutations.
"VaultTec Plan D, it was the most humane product VaultTec ever made." - People who haven't played the games don't pick up the implications of saying that about a cyanide pill. What does that mean about all the OTHER things they made? 😂
From the Fallout wiki: "Though never confirmed in the series, the town's name, "Filly," may refer to the fact that it is built inside a landfill. It may also refer to the small city of Fillmore, California, located roughly 35 miles northwest of Santa Monica and Vault 33."
I assumed it was both. It's Fillimore's landfill, named by someone with a Dad-joke sense of humour. Like calling a cetain town built around an unexploded bomb "Megaton".
I played one of the fallout games don't remember which one but it was at least 15 years ago. I think they call anyone a ghoul affected by the nuclear explosion. Sumthing like that.
i find it really funny but also cool how that scene in the night at the campfire, is such a great "gameplay" interaction. Like he comes when you rest at night... she just blurred out i need to find my dad (quest), he gives advice on the world and poof he is gone again.
It's very possible and in fact likely that Wilzig had lots of inside information on Vault Tec, because the Enclave is built from the remnants of the US government, which was working intimately with Vault Tec right before the war.
I think you are correct. But he also knows Lucy's last name, which I think is because he's been in touch with Moldaver and knows about her raid into the Vault 33 and the kidnapping of Hank.
@@toomanyaccounts what terminal? He left the enclave facility in the opening scene, before he even met Lucy. Are you saying some random terminal out in the wasteland had the names and addresses of every vault resident? I mean, sure, he could have found an old Radioshack computer, right? No. It's much more likely that the chip has a LOT more information on it than just the cold fusion. I'm even betting it's going to be Institute tech, maybe even a synth chip, which could theoretically hold all of that information AND interface with a human brain.
Amazing 'bloatfly' kill on that intro, clearly you two have been levelling up your Perception, as the most perceptive reactors on youtube 🤓 I'm so glad you guys are watching this after the initial hype wave. While the show does 100% deserve it. I'm beyond excited for the next season and cant wait to go on this journey again
Interesting. Our current military technology has antitank ammunition with two-stage warheads. The first stage is supposed penetrate the first layer of armor, allowing the second stage to do its business. That would explain The Ghoul’s two-for-one shot which was much bloodier than just a bullet passing through one guy to kill the guy behind him. He was literally blowing fist-sized holes in people. (I’m not saying that all his bullets had this capability, but his first few shots did.) I’m sorry I’m geeking out, but these rounds would have the ability to take out light armored vehicles. I imagine they’re designed for anti-tank sniper rifles. It’s fantastic attention to detail. Are these bullets part of the game or were they invented for the series?
@@MarcosElMalo2 we have explosive bullets today. problem is they often don't detonate when they should and the amount of explosive is small. gyrojets have been around since the 1960s. they were not gyrojets the ghoul was using since you can see the rounds he loads and fires. his revolver is a cut down version of a 12 gauge revolver shotgun that Russian police force uses
fyi a lot of don't know this but what John Hinckley Jr. used in his attempt to assassinate Ronald Reagan were explosive bullets that were legally sold on the civilian market. Most didn't detonate because the 22lr revolver he used didn't have a long enough barrel to reliably give the rounds enough velocity to trigger. you can still have this ammo legally in an number of states however its like 35 bucks for six rounds of it. So its pretty much a novelty to have
The actor who played the doctor had a same kind of dog as his companion at another series, "Person Of Interest" from 2011. I've loved seeing that relation here as well.
I did not know that. It’s interesting. (And I thank you profusely for not calling it a “fun fact”. God, I hate that overused phrase.) This little tidbit is more than an easter egg. It’s putting the story of Fallout into a certain context, which is (begging your indulgence) the Storytelling Tradition. This is much more satisfying than contrived frameworks like “comic universes” that tell stories appealing to our most puerile impulses. Maybe I’m reading too much into it. But I think you’ll agree that Fallout is a deeper and morally nuanced story than it is cheap entertainment. I haven’t seen Person of Interest (it’s possible that I saw a couple of episodes that didn’t leave a mark on me), but if you still remember and remember details like this, I’d say it was also a better and deeper story than cheap entertainment with two dimensional characters and overly simplified moral situations. Know what I mean?
Dogmeat is a spirit animal that reincarnates into every main instalment of the series, she or he always appears as a German shepherd or a Belgian Shepherd.
Yeah, Haylo they added the perks from the game into the show. The Ghoul most likely has Gunslinger, LeadBelly, Scrounger, and what we saw was Bloody Mess.
"The question is, will you still want the same thing when you've become a different animal altogether?" ~Dr. Siggi Wilzig That quote is pretty much as Fallout as you can get.
I think the "tie you up and let the birds eat you" torture even preceed the vikings Kiss, as there's a greek myth of Prometheus being punished by Zeus in this manner
Sounds more like he was describing gibbeting which dates to the Old Testament. You were strung up to starve to death or death from exposure or thirst. the birds of course would feast on you.
I'm glad you enjoying this special vibe that is fallout. Gore and music, comedy and danger.... Truly unique, but for many of us super entertaining. Thx for the reaction, comment is to feed thr algorithm.
The birdcage on that one dudes back is actually a tactic to survive. The tiny bird is more susceptible to radiation and poisons that could be in the air. Its basically an early warning system.
The fans of the video games are truly pleased and happy with this one because of how they get every details down from the games and because of how they are being so true and loyal to the games
The slow-mo kills are a direct nod to the VATS mode in the game which allows you to zoo and shoot very specific parts of the body. It's also slows down in game. The Enclave is what's left of the US federal Government and they're shady af. They also do not get along with the Brotherhood of Steel (remnants of U.S Army)
Why did Wilzig not tell Lucy to take the chip out of him? I assume it's because he's worried that any attempt to remove it (without the proper equipment) might damage it.
"Get choppin'!" She starts with the saw. "OH NO! I can't look at it!" God, you're so funny :D Yeah the show is quite gory at times. And the beginning...you catched the insect, I guess? 😂😂😂 I love it!
the dude is legendary! seriously, i can't think of a single actor in this series that wasn't top tier. everyone from top to bottom was exemplary, but there are 2 in particular that, in my opinion, need to reprise their roles in season 2 and fikkin chukker dude is one of them!🙂
Dogmeat was a dog you could get in Fallout 1, too, and it was SUPER powerful. It paid to not let it get killed, cause it could take a beating and do a lot of damage, too. I never played Fallout 2, but Dogmeat is a companion in all of the games, so I assume (s)he's in that one, too.
Belgian Malinois (like Four) are close cousins to the German Shepherd. Both are easily trainable by a skilled trainer and can be found in the military and many police forces. My only personal experience with Malinois has been with puppies and one yearling, but I can attest that they are incredibly intelligent. Too smart, the little mischief makers (still not as bad as Huskies, tho). This has been a mini-infodump to help feed the the algorithm. 😊 (Brought to you by Kong dog toys and accessories.)
The series is so good because the showrunners are fans of the games and don't just say that in interviews (like J.J. Abrams: "I'm a huge Star Trek fan". In reality, he hadn't seen a single episode of Star Trek until he got the job to direct the 2009 Star Trek Movie)
If you've ever seen a picture of a bear that's lost its fur to Mange or whatever, they look absolutely terrifying. Just all claws and teeth, nothing cuddly at all. In the games they are called Yao Guai for some reason.
Barb is hands down my favourite character in this 🤣 I love the whole show, cant wait for season 2.. you aint seen nothing yet coming from someone who has played all the games.
So with taking the head is following along with how a quest in Fallout would be. You would be told in the quest to take the head. That is the funny gruesome dark humor that the games are known for.
Everyone wonders why the Ghoul doesn't fare better against Maximus, particularly after certain revelations at the end of the series. There are several reasons, but it just occurred to me that even if Lucy's tranquilizer couldn't take him down, it could still have slowed him down, just enough to affect his judgement, his aim, and his dodging.
The diameter of the barrel of a 40mm is a lot bigger than the Ghoul's gun. (In fact....it's 40mm). Only time I recall having a 40mm in game wan an M-203. One in NV and one from the FO4 update a few months ago. May have been some in other games but I just missed them or just don't remember. Either way, I don't think they were very common. It's fun seeing people get back into or discovering what has been my favorite game series for the past 27 years.
@@Lordoftheapes79 I looked again after my post. Looks like a 12 gauge shooting slugs? Explosive slugs? But you are probably right. It's a Fallout gun created for the show.
Literally watched the ep. 1 reaction three hours ago while working, after watching today’s One Piece reaction, and was sad there was only one of these to add to my workflow. And now I’ve just lucked out 😂
I make mods for fallout 4/ New Vegas and some other work on fallout (you’ll see I promise!) and I just want to say, seeing y’all still so cheery and loving the show currently, I think you’ll fall even more in love with it and the games very much! This has many Easter eggs from every game! Even the ghoul taking those little inahlers is a drug from the very first fallout handbook! They get EVERYTHING, even the Zeppelin from the brotherhood has the labels from the one in fallout 4 but in different places, lot of different small features on it which may actually be an Easter egg to point to them not winning in fallout 4 and having to rebuild the whole Zeppelin! Many other small ones but so glad, from a now minor worker on the games and modder in private time, cheers and love it and your profile!
Flying limbs and exploding head are very common in fallout universe, yes, and pile of bodies. As a player that’s what you see almost every hour you played🤣.
He is indeed shooting gyrojet rounds, which are just tiny missiles. something like 5 dozen guns were made to shoot it. it failed commercially for obvious reasons.
@@mawortz The rounds require extremely fine tolerance machining, so are expensive. Even if well made they are inaccurate and have poor range. Also, since they gain most of their velocity outside the barrel, if the target is too close, they won't be going very fast. The only real benefit is a low recoil, light weapon.
No it's not a GyroJet :) It's a *prop* not a real weapon, but based off the STS 255 revolver shotgun, this version seems to be in 28 gauge (.545) and break action not swing out. Those big straight walled cartridges would be very potent (needed for all the mutants) and easier to manufacture & reload in the wasteland than complex rimless shouldered cartridges. And you can see he has a variety of different ammo, later in series you can see he has armour piercing sabot rounds ;)
Yao Guai are no joke... (Mutated bear). I can't wait to see paladin Danse and the Synths. I wonder how they will portray Shaun and what happened in vault 111.
You do realize this show is set 9 years after fallout 4, and is on the opposite side of the U.S. from the Boston Commonwealth? I highly doubt Danse or Father will be in the show.
The Enclave was actually the remnants of a high cel of the US Government. They had all kinds of terrible nefarious plans for humanity after the war. The Enclave is the bad guys in Fallout.
I have been a Fallout fan since the very first game and I am so excited to see your blind reaction to this universe and all the events and lore and CRRRRRRAZY shit you're going to see lol the games have always been a mix of horror/comedy to an extent with New Vegas and 4 being more comedy with atrocities sprinkled in lol
I can remember shutting myself into my basement apartment in Chicago and only leaving to go to work so I could do nothing but play the original Fallout when it was released. My friends thought I'd died or something. 😅 And then I saw the demo for 2 a year or two later at GenCon, my lower intestine fell right the fuck out.😮
