If you are referring to the South Island Mansion, it was brand new when we moved in. We were the first people to occupy our apartment. It was mostly all military families. Thanks for commenting.
@@tomsstuff216 Yes. South Island Mansion is 38 years old😳 military and okinawans currently live there. Absolutely nothing has changed in the apartment structure🤭 Thank you for the wonderful video!
The hospital shown at 4 minutes 27 seconds in the video is the hospital where I worked in 1987. I was 28 years old at the time. I am 65 now. I never crossed paths with you, but we passed each other at the same time and in the same place. I also often saw South Island Mansion. It brings back so many memories. It's a view of my hometown when I was young. Thank you so much.
Thank you for your comments! That is really amazing to think that we were in the same place at the same time. What if you saw yourself or someone you know on the video? To give someone that experience is one of the cool things about posting these videos. I have some other videos of our time while living on Okinawa posted on my channel, included a tour of our apartment at South Island Mansion. We had a great time living on Okinawa, I would really love to come back someday to visit. Thanks again.
Last week I took a trip there. All the stores are closed now and not very active. (Probably because American soldiers don't play in the city anymore). I am happy to see images of a Japan that used to be vibrant and shining. Please come to Japan again!!.
I would love to come back! I understand how you feel about stores being closed too. We have the same situation here at our mall. It used to be a thriving place with a lot of people with fun and interesting things to see. But I guess with time, things change. There is a new mall here that has replaced the old one. Do you think the Aeon Mall in the Awase area has contributed to the decline in Okinawa City as well? I know the prevention of military personnel being allowed to spend their time off there too was a main factor. It was great living there at that time and I consider myself lucky to have experienced it!
@@tomsstuff216 thank you for your reply. Koza is the town where I live. It has changed a lot now. Dairy Queen and Dunkin' Donuts no longer exist. I want to share a video with my friends. I hope your family is doing well.
Wow, what a happenstance running into your video. I actually live in the same Apartment complex y’all lived in all those years ago. They are almost finished repainting it. It’s neat seeing how some things still stand, some things have also changed. The hotel next door closed down unfortunately and I predict that they will demolish it, like they did to the bowling alley that was down the road.
@@MrScellaneous Really cool that you found it! On my channel I have another separate video that is a tour of our apartment at South Island Mansion, we lived on the fourth floor and we were the first to live in that unit. We lived there for about a year before moving on base to Kishaba at Camp Foster. Thanks for watching!
