one of the most iconic overtures in the broadway repertoire, performed here most beautifully and idiomatically (and without cuts) in robert russell bennett''s marvelous original arrangement/orchestration. the complete performance of the show, available elsewhere on yt, is a delight, especially bobby fairchild's will parker. as a side note, i've often wondered if the thrilling opening trill was inspired by a similar figure at the beginning of vaughan williams' overture to " the wasps."
