In all, honesty, maybe I'm not such a great judge of what is technically difficult, but I can interpret what is beautiful. The problem with this program was that it wasn't as fluid as some others. But that's only my opinion.
I'm torn between this performance to the Spartacus Adagio compared to Davis/White's Samson and Delilah. Both are great perfomances to equally beautiful pieces of music.
The only spectacular part of the program was her position on that first lift. The rest of it...how the hell did they win with this? Lots of skating on two feet, and you could drive a truck through them during most of the program. That last lift was so cumbersome.
What makes this program good is the music and the lifts, nothing else. It was performed very rough, to be honest. In my opinion I thought Virtue and Moir should have gotten 1st Meryl and Charlie ( I didn't LOVE them) somewhere in the standings, and Pechalat and Bourzat higher, as well as Samuelson and Bates. D/S and B/A should've been 4th and 5th. But maybe I'm just really judging based off of FDs. I will admit though, B/A had one of the best ODs, but S/B were the best in my book for the ODs.
They are technically great skaters, but I preferred Meryl Davis and Charlie White's FD. They should have been on the podium. The choreography of Domnina and Shabalin was a bit frantic. I am used to watching Michelle Kwan's breathtaking, passionate performance to Spartakus, so no one else's program to her music can suffice.
Aside from the two spectacular lifts, this was very sloppy and slow. It's not their fault, but I think the judges got this one wrong for sure! IMO, they were outclassed by both American teams in the FD and by Belbin/Agosto overall...
They were gifted the title. This program was sloppy in places, and the choreography was not nearly as complex as other teams. COP didn't change anything, it just made it harder for federations to call out a judge.
I keep watching this and can't stop thinking they were terribly overrated. They skated far too slow and the syncronization was below world-class standard. And I couldn't see the story in this dance at all. It was simply forward/backward stroking all the time
I'm against all the cheats, no matter the country. I loved many Russian skaters like Yagudin, Slutskaya, Berezhnaya/Sikharulidze, but I really think Domnina/Shabalin didn't deserve that program components score.
Je découvre aujourd'hui ces danseurs. Leur prestation m'apparaît très largement en-dessous d'autres prestations des mêmes années, il est extrêmement lourd, ennuyeux, maladroit, de mauvais goût et même, à vrai dire horrible ! Cette victoire est incompréhensible ou alors ne s'explique que par de très mauvaises raisons je pense
How could they win? Their program components scores were too high! They don't have the best skating skills and this choreography was old fashioned, poor and banal... I'm so disappointed by the judges, they're ruining this sport!
