OKUMA Carbon ITX Spinning Reel Review - Should You BUY It?

Okuma Carbon ITX spinning reel review, is this fishing reel worth the money, and should you buy it? The ITX has been battle-tested over the last six months, and I cannot be more satisfied with the results. It's lightweight, weighing in at only 8.3 ounces. It holds 150 yards of 15lb braid, and aesthetically it looks amazing. The line lay on the spool is perfect, and the aluminum/carbon components really make this a great reel to fight off corrosion. The reel might be small, but it is mighty, boasting a drag of 18lbs. I have pulled redfish from the mangroves and snapper and grouper from their rock dens. The little reel keeps on impressing me with each outing. The best part is that it only costs $105 to $120, depending on where you decide to pick it up.

I have the 4000. On my first one, the spool around the line clip almost instantly rusted up (two trips on the coast and not in surf), as did a few of the casing screws. Okuma replaced it without a quibble or a complaint and this second one's not missed a beat. I've used it on salt and fresh for surface fishing for 20lb carp and it's been a lot of fun. A year or so in and it's as crisp and as smooth as it was when it came out of the factory. Superb reels at any price, let alone the crazy value Okuma offer with it.

Thank you for the solid review, much appreciated! I am a die hard Okuma fan, especially of the Ceymar range, brilliant reels (freshwater) for an epic price. I never get the guys that slam the brand, been using them for years and have not had one fail on me and I tend to always go too lightweight setup for my target species. The C10 Ceymar that I have has landed me 40lb sharptooth catfish on a 5' UL rod and I still use it to this day. Got an LRF 6' rod for throwing lures, was looking for a reel to pair it with casting 1/32 oz hard baits. Definitely will go with an ITX! Great video!

I'm in Australia and have been watching the Tackle Tactics guys use these. I am usually a Shimano man and have recently been using their Nasci range of reels. But they are sold out so I have ordered this one for a 3-6KG spinning rod with 15lb Penn braid and I will most likely use 16lb Shimano Ocea F leader. Hoping to get some good flathead on this slightly heavier combo compared to my much lighter 1-3KG setup with 6lb braid and 8lb leader and a Shimano Ultegra 2500.

Really excited to try this reel. The one thing I might mention is the presence of an anti reverse switch.. it’s just not needed for inshore applications and can be another potential place for saltwater intrusion. Other than that this reel looks great 👍🏼

I have used the okuma spinning reels since 2015 which I have tried the ceymar, avenger, epixor, azores and itx and none have failed me and they continue working as the first day I have the reels the ceymar c-40, avenger 2500, avenger abf 6000 , Rtx 40s, Epixor xt 40 azores 6000 and ITX 4000H. They are good so far and the best part is there price you can beat them for the money.

I just bought the ITX 2500. it's my first Okuma reel, and I'm positively surprised. Very smooth and quiet. Although the rotor doesn't lock itself when you open the bail! It moves when you are casting. Anyone else annoyed by that, or it's just me? I wouldn't have bought this reel If I had been aware of this.

Take it to the skyway. Tie a 5 gallon bucket to it. Lower ut, fill it and see if it can Handle it. If not a 5 maybe a 3 or 2 gallon. Tie a safety rope to get it back in case the line breaks. This product looks good. I need to get into Okuma.

Between this ITX vid and your vid on the Helios, I have literally no reason not to pick up one of those reels. I fish for bass and you are pulling and fighting much bigger fish. Very impressed. Any suggestion on which one is better? I mean you fought 2 tarpons on a Helios 3000 and still good? I have an Okuma Cerros baitcaister rod that I was massively impressed with out the box and on water. Very good company IMO

I use it for jigging. I too am baffled by the fact that it doesn't fail.. my penn gear did fail but this one doesn't. Also it is a solid reel. No movement on the shaft when reeling a big reef fish. And its small so my hands dont bump to my knees when kayak fishing. I have the 4000 series

Great Review Josh. I'm becoming an Okuma convert after recently having used their new Epixor XT-20 Reel for Ultra Light stuff. I notice in your videos that you have experience in using both the Helios SX and obviously the newer ITX range of Okuma Reels. Which of these 2 would you recommend? or is it splitting hairs? I fish the lower keys and love yellowtail but I will occasionally get a hefty mutton or grouper. I’ve been on my same custom rod for over 40 years and it’s time to retire her. I like the ITX review and also like the rod setup but I think I need a little more power. Im thinking at least 4000 and I like the rod your using but I think the next model up would be a better fit. Is this the larger rod matched for the ITX 4000? DTR-S-701MH-CR

Okuma isn't a part of Zebco. They're a Taiwanese company with companies around the World like New Zealand, USA, Japan, Europe, etc. They were originally a milling company, and still is. To this day Okuma manufactures parts for other companies. Okuma is acknowledged as 1 of the 3 largest fishing companies in the World. Independent tester Alan Hawk currently rates the Makaira Spinning Reel as the best in the World above Shimano & Daiwa. I've been using Okuma for years & own 100's of pieces w/no problems. I own a lot of other rigs in storage so i've used a broad spectrum of gear from different companies. I have used a Daiwa Rod & discovered a design flaw that they acknowledged, and fixed the series. Also a flaw with a Shimano Reel that was also corrected. My friend on Kauai also found a major design flaw in a Fenwick Rod last year as well. All that doesn't mean they're bad companies. Every angler has a niche for fishing. Mr Taylor is giving his field review on the ITX. I don't judge other companies by a few products that fell apart on me. You as a consumer just have to weigh out everything you see out there & make the best decision for yourself.
