Yes it can cast. just have to be aware of back lashing, and that the reel isn't made for casting. It is design to pull spool for trolling. Okuma does make a bait caster version with the counter that fit your needs.

Hello there - I am not totally sure I understand what you are doing. With the clicker on, you can back off your drag a bit which will make it easier for line to come off. This is with the reel engaged. The other way would be to have the clicker on, but have the reel in freespool. This does however give you the chance of backlash in your line if you get a big strike.

@@OkumaFishingUSA need it to be loose enough so the fish can take line after picking up bait without feeling the line and dropping it. Only way with this reel I've found was with free spool and clicker on, but its still to hard to pull. Other reels I've had you could control how light or heavy this setting was. Sounds like ill need to try a different reel
