Tanzania's Ol Doinyo Lengai spews out bizarre black lava, which could help solve mysteries of the planet's mantle. But getting your hands on a sample is not easy. Read more at: www.newscientist.com/article/...
Oh, that's a little terrifying. Between the relatively low temperature, the viscosity, and unusual colour I think it'd be easy to assume that was just a muddy geyser.
400-600 C is VERY cool for lava, a commercial oven could reach those temperatures. Sodium and calcium carbonate, is this basically a molten salt volcano? On a semi-related note, I heard a guy once fell into a pool of this lava and though he suffered severe burns, managed to crawl his way out, giving him the dubious honor of being the only person to survive being submerged in lava.
I camped inside Ol Doinyo Lengai back in 2001, 2002 and 2004. Fascinating volcano! It glows a dull red at night similar to the glow of an electric stove.
I wonder how these people are reacting to the factor videos. Getting traction because of a Minecraft video!😂😂😂 To be fair, it was a very geologically sound Minecraft video.
