Oooh this makes me happier than the 0% down and low-APR financing on select vehicles at this week’s Capitol City Sign Then Drive event! Seriously, good stuff.
Awesome stuff man, I meant it s so great, so I can live and enjoy this dimension as old school 90s , sound travel journey, love it so much, gr8 work Olan!. proper pure organic raw soul techno !
Excellent work thanks for the inspiration! I am willing to start into modular world but maybe should go semi modular first (Dfam +M32? Dark energy)? Which drum machine (Jomox? Tanz)? Sequencer and sampler? This has to sound hard tek old school (Spiral/Cirkus Alien) and then I would add eurorack modules step by step. Any advice welcome!
hi, it really depends on what you‘re comfortable with. but a semi modular synth combined with a drum machine is certainly a good idea. i‘d go for a 909 clone if i were you! cheers
Seriously the best techno SET I've seen on a modular yet. Is that marbles upper right corner? How do you feel it lends itself to your performance and is this mostly improvised or carefully rehearsed?
Always great! I was thinking purchasing the complete Tekno system from Erica synths: any feedback advice? Which modules shall be added? I play old school hard tekno thanks
Great set! How much of the sounds/melodic patterns are created on the fly? Do you take snapshots of the Turing machines and marbles melodies that you like before you start? What about the drum patterns? I presume you have some preprogrammed kick/hat patterns in the DrumSeq?
thanks! almost all the melodic patterns are created on the fly with the turing machines and marbles. due to the properties of the noise engineering sequencer, i sometimes reuse the 4 sequences i programmed there though, since i usually forget to save the state of the module before powering down. with marbles and the turing machines i start blank. most drum patterns are also from pattern- or random sequencers (turing machines etc). on the erica drum sequencer i have preprogrammed patterns for kick, hihat, chord stabs, erica pico sampler, rings and i can change them the common way by reprogramming or using the random step function on the fly
@@OLANGALACTICA Do you use the trigger out from the marbles for melodic sequencing too? I don't find it to be that musical. Do you drive it from a regular clock or another sequencer? Which voices do you find work best for improv? It would seem that wide sweet-spot and simple control is best. I've been using Rings and BIA but find both a bit samey after a while. Got a modulargrid link?
i use the erica drum seq as master clock. yes, i‘ve used the marble triggers. however, i‘ve ditched the marbles now and will be using another sequencer for my bass lines on the next video. i like all kinds of sequencers and voices that are hands-on. i hate menudiving when improvising and the only modules where i scroll through the menu from time to time to use different sounds are plonk and braids. also, although make noise make great modules sound-wise, i only use the ones i absolutely need. because their interfaces feel counter-intuitive to me. here‘s the modulargrid. it‘s a bit dated. it‘s the setup of video #12. www.modulargrid.net/e/racks/command_center/49480
Man I'm listening to this for the second time and it blows me away. Great job man! I am trying to build a similar modular setup (live performable) but I'm having a hard time getting variation to keep it interesting without it sounding like too whacky. i think it has to do with modulation and sequencing. Do you have any tips about this? :)
hi, thanks! to keep my patches sounding ‚lively‘, i use the modulation outputs of my turing machines and tides to a certain degree. for example i sometimes modulate the ‚structure‘ input from Rings. But it really comes down to the mix. Having an analog mixer with cross-talking/cross-compression is great for keeping things moving. i use the WMD performance mixer.
@@OLANGALACTICA thank you for sharing your wisdom :) I'm using the befaco hexmix, which is working well so far. I realized that I can use my disting to do compression on my kick and bass. One part I am still struggling with is the melodic sequencing. Perhaps I should just bite the bullet and lean more music theory... anyways thank you for sharing. It inspired me to change some stuff in my system around :D
26:05 -> fuck yhea i am dancing already. Awesome i really like what you do, i need to crank upp my bpm i usually hoover around 115-120 (old guys techno :) ).
hello! You have deleted a really cool music with metropolis footage from you channel is it still possible to find it somewhere ? by the way really nice live!
thx man! for cv sequences on this video i use: marbles, 2x turing machines, mimetic digitalis, modseq and sometimes the cv channel on erica drum seq. so it‘s coming from everywhere :)
I thought I spied a mimetic! Im using one too along with numeric repetitor, turing machine, and 2 westlicht performers, one for drums and one for oscillators
thanks! i‘m currently not using modulargrid to plan my case, but an older version is still online (liveset #12): www.modulargrid.net/e/users/view/49480
flew with this around 50 times already from/to germany, france, switzerland, spain, belgium, austria. never had any problems. i usually go to the airport 15 min earlier because sometimes they want me to open the case or check me for bomb residue. good thing i don‘t live in the states.
the chord comes from music thing modular chord organ through a erica pico vcf3. the weird delay sounds come from mutable instruments braids (ring mode) through an syntrotek/mst filter
ok. if you‘re interested in DIY you can build the Braids, Chord Organ and MST Filter yourself. i saved around 50% on diy modules. helped me a lot to get going because eurorack is so damn expensive and my pockets arent‘t very deep
@@OLANGALACTICA I actually allready have two braids. Man you seem like an interresting person. I develope modules. But its kinda hart cuz Im only 15. I would really like to chat with you more so if you could add me on facebook that would be awsome. facebook.com/marek.mach.9047
after recording a do a bit of mastering (making it a bit louder and adding a bit of compression), but yeah it‘s basically what you hear, since I also use a compressor when i‘m playing live.
@@OLANGALACTICA That's killing bro. Yeah I have asked cause I am between this choice, I have a multitrack recording but also the master out. Mix and Master ? Just Master? I am exploring some options
