A short feature about the other-worldly bone art of New Zealand bone sculptor and artist, Bruce Mahalski. This video piece was made by local network, TV3, and shown on Seven Sharp on Thursday April 02, 2015.
😂 I remember finding a rooster in the road while walking my dog, it was freshly hit by a car. Thought, “Oh yayyy look at that. Beautiful. Now, what can I use to haul it back home I gotta be quick.” Yeah I take them home very swiftly and always had plastic bags in my pocket but this thing was huge. Then I realized my neighbor was 3ft away walking towards us with a trash bag. Damn, swooped. He was like, “Hey Rachel! Don’t worry I’ll clean it up. I already got the trash bag.” Me shifting gears: “Thank you I was just wondering how I was gonna move it off the street. It’s really big!” Him: “Yeah just saw it coming home so I knew I better throw it away soon so it doesn’t stink. All these feral animals everywhere, I’m always smelling that dead animal smell.” Me: “Yeah me too. Thought I could smell something over there a few days ago..” yada yada Now, what he doesn’t know is that I’ve got many specifies of birds from sparrows to pigeons to chickens, rats, mice, cats, kittens, toads, even large lizards, all in different stages of decomposition all around my property. Luckily I have dense foliage from so many things being planted too close together by my great grandmother. 😅 But in my defense, that month was hectic. My two favorite cats that showed up on a random day 4 months prior had both been hit by a car. I liked them too but these were a strange breed that had zero sense of awareness. They died only two weeks apart. People may not realize this but bone farming is a lot of work! 😅
