First light and burn in off the Old Country Insulated Gravity Smoker RU-vidrs mentioned: Trendkill BBQ ( / @cheatcodeoffroad ) Mad Scientist BBQ ( / @madscientistbbq ) The World of Barbeque ( / @theworldofbarbeque1694 )
Hey weird question but did it come in a box or a crate? Trying to figure out how i can get this to my backyard when they are back in stock. A dolly seems out of the question if its not boxed or in a crate
Appreciate the video. I've had my eye on this smoker and have been hoping to see some more review videos on it. Gravity Fed smokers are a newer concept for me as I'm used to more traditional stick burners. Looking forward to your future reviews on this one.
Awesome review. Seeing lots of videos on the Masterbuilt Gravity fed, but really like the looks of the heavier unit here--and no reliance on electricity! I think a bit more air on your initial light up (maybe a bit more fire as well!) will speed up your cook temps. Thanks for posting!!
ExTrumpet thanks for the view! I got the lite up dialed in finally but I also received my bbq guru adapter. Takes 20 mins to lite and let the coals get going. After I close the fire box it only takes 16 mins to get to temp. The controller is a must for this. I wanted a master built but I wanted something that will last. I don’t have confidence in the durability of the 560.
Thanks for sharing! Looks like a great cooker. I really wanted one & debated on waiting a while back, but couldn't do it. Ended up with something else. Glad to see others found them & are posting their experiences like yourself. I hope its treating you well
OCB teased the world with this smoker, then when everyone went crazy over it, decided to not make it? Crazy. Every email is answered with soon. Waiting over a year and nothing. Going to order a smaller, more expensive Assassin gravity fed. Sigh.. You are a lucky guy to have scored one! Edit: Just scored 1 3 hours away. Driving to get tomorrow morning. Guess they heard me. lol. Still scarce, only unit with in 5 hours of the Florida Panhandle. So stoked!
Hey there, i make sure to shake the grate to clear all old ash. I add a can or block of wood under the grate with a Weber fire starter. I open the fire door and top hatch and close the front door and vent. Once the cube is out, I close fire door and hatch and open the vent. The thermoworks billows will bring it to 225/250 in about 30 minutes from initial light using lump charcoal.
Trendkillr just shut down his Chanel. So sad. Keep the gravity smoker videos coming buddy. Right now your the only one keeping my gravity feed dream alive.
Great video the unit does seem to be built to last but for $1300 I would hope that you wouldn't have to change the casters, build an ash pan, add a ball valve, and use a cut up pan to keep from ruining the gasket. Not trying to hate just observations. Thumbs up.
I definitely understand the market that this targeted and have no problems doing any of these things. From the forums I’ve read, academy had a price point that OC needed to hit for this to be brought to market. I think all things considered, it’s the cheapest insulated gravity smoker on the market by $1000 or so. The lack of a charcoal pan is the only item that leaves me wanting. The charcoal heat deflector is a must for all gravity smokers. Is it necessary? Probably not but I feel better knowing the gasket will last longer. Thanks for the comment!
@@glenmoss02 yeah, that comment is a month old. I actually passed on one and got the Char-Griller Gravity 980 since I do a lot of grilling. I talked another guy at work into getting one though. Great smoker.
J G I just went to Academies website and the only ones that I could find are selling for $699. Are there special options that you can purchase separately?
Crazy Dogs it looks like they’re potentially completely sold out. Old country told me directly they’re producing more and they will be delivered early this month to academy. I’m 100% you’ll see them for sale online again soon.
I hate to say it but I hope it lasts you a while. I don't see this as a long term smoker. A backwoods for 800 is a better quality smoker even if its smaller.
