Old Drug Crises Were Overhyped. This One Isn’t.

America has never seen a drug crisis quite like the one it’s facing today. From 2010 to 2020, the nation’s rate of overdose deaths tripled. The main culprit: fentanyl.
What makes this time different is fentanyl’s lethality. In the past, overdose deaths tended to be concentrated among longtime addicts who pushed too far. Fentanyl, however, is so potent that it’s much more likely for even the most casual user to overdose. And because fentanyl often slips undetected into other drugs that means that even users of “safer” substances are at increased risk.
How did this happen? And what can we do to stop it? We sort through the research to answer those questions.

While most people are focusing on the so called "Opioid Epidemic" those of us with severe chronic pain are facing everything from false accusations to lack of treatment. With the result being unnecessary suffering to death depending on what state we live in. As the pain response hormones like Adrenaline, Cortisone, etc. will kill us over a few years, all because the CDC thought it would be time consuming & problematic to differentiate between Addicts and Pain Patients...

It's not cheap though, about 250 to 300 1/8oz. 1500 to 2000 for an ounce. It might be cheap to manufacture, but the demand is SO high that it's expensive on the street. Very expensive. I've never understood why it would be used to lace anything. It's more expensive than most drugs it would be mixed with.

You need to take into account the potency. A grain of regular table salt (60 micrograms) of prescription transdermal fentanyl is equal to 24 Norco 5/325 or 120mg of morphine. It is extremely potent and does not take much to become lethal. An ounce could kill a lot of people. It does not take much to get someone high. For that reason it is very cheap. Does that make sense?

This one was directly caused by the drug war.

Easy solution - legalize it, regulate it, and subsidize it for addicts. No more overdoses, stolen catalytic converters, and bloated law enforcement and customs budgets.

An unrealistically optimistic and idealized take. You have no idea how real humans behave.

@@OutOfElmo The reason drug addicts steal is for their next fix. The reason drug addicts overdose is because the people making that drug are inexperienced since many of them are constantly going to jail and their equipment gets confiscated so they settle for unsanitary cheap equipment. The reason law enforcement budgets are so big is to "fight" consensual drug "crime." The reason criminal organizations get so big that they can corrupt government is because they have a monopoly on the most addictive substances known to man. The reason why violent non consensual crime like human trafficking is so large is because criminal organizations can diversify with lucrative drugs and subsidize their real crime operation. Government can make fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, etc en masse dirt cheap and it would be safer, cleaner, cheaper, and more effective then anything the cartel puts out. The reason why drug addicts don't recover from their addiction is because they aren't being consistently influenced into joining rehab and staying in rehab. If you have centralized locations where drug addicts can get free effective safe drugs they will come. Drug addicts will need to sign up and stay in rehab on condition of getting the drug. You don't have have to pay to clean up needles on the street. You don't have to pay for a +10k ambulance and a 300$ drug everytime you resuscitate a drug addict. You don't have children having to walk around inebriated addicts on their way to school. This "unrealistically optimistic and idealized take" has been tried in other countries with great results. A dramatic decrease in addicts, money spent, and overall crime.
