I grew up with one that I still miss to this day. She lived to be 16 years old before we had to make the horrible choice of putting her down. She was truly suffering by that point. Now at 52 I have an 8 month old male. He is an amazing dog and my shadow. He definitely has separation anxiety. Even when the rest of the family is home he will wait for me to come home by the door.Luckily I work from home so rarely am gone for long periods of time. If I can take him with me - I do. Guess I have separation anxiety too. 😊😊
Best dogs ever! Have one currently - four in total - they are goofy, sweet and the most amazing companions. They all make me laugh from morning to night.
I had a Murphy, too. He was 13-1/2. Great guy. He was my wife’s dog. I have a female OES and she’s awesome. She is attached to me. Such phenomenal dogs.
An old English sheepdog was the first dog I ever owned. That dog was intense when it came to protecting the family. Saved me when I was a kid from a neighbourhood bully who came onto my front yard to beat me up lol it could have broke it’s neck because it was on a leash attached to a pole and when he chased him, he got yanked back. One time, a German Shepard just looked at me wrong and it was on its neck in seconds. I felt bad for the other dog.
I have had the good fortune to have been "owned" by 5 (two or three at a time) over many years and have loved then all. Two OES were raised as pups while 3 were rescued. Each had totally different personifies but shared the traits described in this video. They "crossed the rainbow bridge" btwn the ages of 8 to 15 years old, so having one is a serious commitment.
Hopefully you have managed to get one. If not, I would just constantly keep in contact with the breeders. Generally they want to see them go to great homes that will lovingly care for them. I had one about 25years ago and it didn't make it much easier to get another recently. Just by luck we managed to recently get 2 great puppies within a few months of each other. Good luck
I don't have an OES but fell in love with the breed as a young girl. In English class in grade 3 the reader was the "Mr. Mugg" series that featured a mischievous OES. If I get such a dog, I will call him "Mr. Mugg"!
My families dog need non stop cuddling! I've never seen another dog that was so in need of being cuddled and petted - he starts barking and complaining when you stop. Even if you've been petting him for two hour on end 😊
Haha can relate. My sheepadoodle is honestly so cuddly, I stop and he'll put his paws on me and is like keep going 🤣 then if i don't he will try to talk to me and let me know he doesnt want me to stop haha. I think my dog has more personality than most humans I've met. They are so loyal too
My OES is 4 (almost 5) months and we can check almost every single one of those boxes 😅 luckily he has not shown signs of separation anxiety but HE IS a big fluffy bouncy attention seeking clumsy adorable boy 💞
I dont mean to be off topic but does any of you know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?? I was dumb lost my password. I would appreciate any assistance you can give me!
Have had three OES in my life. One Bouvier as well. Both great breeds and quite different. The Sheepdogs were all clowns. Great off leash dog, Followed me like a shadow. Always up for fun. Mischievous.
Every OES pictured in this video had a docked tail. Are you sure all of the dog owners are breaking the law? My OES Pearl has her tail so just interested ❤😊
Not only are they attention seeking and LOVE people and kids & other dogs, but people will stop me several times a day! My boy is mixed with blue heeler, so his dark back never turned grey(he’s almost 2). His hair does matte , and does get an undercoat but his hair is long and only gets super fluffy like a full bred, when he’s washed and blown out. And it’ll last about three days max. Other then me shaving down his bum area he has never been shaved at all. I do trim his bangs because he walks into things if I don’t. He is super funny, super smart, easy to train and loyal! He def has a smal bit of sept anxiety but he’s always with me. As he’s gotten older he doesn’t tear things up as much or if at all anymore, when I leave. My third dog ever and definitely my favorite breed so far. Temperament is amazing and such a lap dog at 62 lbs. Despite what this video says, they can have blue eyes occasionally
My OES was the best dog ever. We lost her at age 14. She never barked randomly, nor at strangers at the door - it was for specific reasons, and mainly 9 times out of 10, it was directed to our vacuum cleaner. LOL... When they do bark, it is a deep full chested voice that is bold, yet very pleasant to the ear. Typically it is not repetitive, just an announcement. Can't say enough how wonderful this breed is - you will hear the adjective "clown" used consistently. They are fun, funny and despite what some might say, exceptionally smart. They love their owners and are very loyal - but are most welcoming to strangers & guests. Guests are new friends to win over, and they win most over in seconds with their warmth and personality. Friends are friends, but family always comes first. They love children, are cautious around them, and look after them to make sure they are not getting into trouble or leaving their watchful eye unattended. Did I say, for me and my family OES are the best breed ever? Just want to make sure I made that point. :)
The video says not that tail docking is illegal and not to do it but most of the dogs in the video have no tail. Are there varieties born like this or did those dogs have the tail docked? (I love their cute butts with no tail. They look like baby bears 🐻 🐶 )
Docking is not illegal in the US. Docking soon after birth doesn’t cause pain. Check with vets. Summer time they get puppy cuts. Great dogs !! Brushing is a bonding time. Smart dogs. You will not regret owning one.
The docking tail is acceptable in the USA. It is not cruel just as removing dew claws. AKC requires this in the show. Please correct this in the video. to correct separation anxiety the dog must have excercise before leaving your dog at home in crates.
as a puppy they nibble a lot and it hurts but i realize just now from God they nibble bite because they want to play, thank you God for teaching me that tonight
Amazing dog! My husband had always wanted one and we finally got our puppy and he is almost 5 months and so much fun. Gets so much attention on walks! Great dog!
He’s only a pup, so no drooling and minimal shedding right now. May change as he gets older, but he gets brushed regularly (his every other day battle with the brush 💀 haha)
We have two and one is a drooler but does not shed and the other sheds a lot but does not drool and although they look identical they have totally different coats one is coarse and thick whilst the other is is finer but from about 10yds hard to see it. Both are softies and love to lay on your lap
My Woofie was my 4th son, best baby sitter and cartoon watcher ever! He didn't drool and he didn't shed. He loved his weekly baths and blow drying afterwards. Sweetest disposition and he loved his human brothers and always slept with them. Oh yes, to answer your question, in my experience, they don't she d or drool. They are the perfect pet.
the narrator is wrong, when he said docking is illegal, when the breed standard in the USA still docks tails and it is still okay to do so, as the puppy cannot feel the snipping, as their spinal cord has not developed strong nerves and by the 3rd day a puppy can still be docked. Lots of breeders still recommend docking the tails as many of the breeds have been known to break their tails several times because of the force used when they wag the tails and then hits it against a wall or furniture.
I had three OES and none of them drooled and they don't even shed much suprisingly. The beard does turn brown when it comes into contact with their saliva. But thats more due to licking their mouth rather than drooling. In my opinion they are not a breed for beginners or a family with small children. Training can be challenging with a breed that's that stuborn/strong willed and boy they are. Although they can be great with children herding can be an issue with small children and this breed requires time which might not everybody with a small child has. Grooming is a daily thing even in a puppy cut and they need exercise like described in the video. Other than that they are awesome and as the owner of this breed you'll never be alone on the toilet ever again lol
The amount of dogs that you can adopt in thus world is crazy, it isn’t a bit better, it’s significantly superior to adopt dogs not only because it’s free but because the dogs that you can adopt have suffered and deserve a owner more than breeder dogs. You shouldn’t care how a dog looks, only how it treats you and you treat it
I do have to say, I did learn something important here. Drover. To me, drover was the first border collie I met. A cattle dog out of eastern Oregon. Fast as anything. Smart as a whip. And when he would sneak off to my dad's place, a lovable layabout who just wanted to be close to people. I had no idea his name was a trade, and it makes perfect sense. Lad was a 4 time champ in local herding competitions. And when I found out he had been put to stud, his puppies pricetag was a shocker. Working dogs are damn useful. He lived to 13. And had a hell of a life herding cattle all over eastern and central Oregon. And snuck many a strip of bacon and a belly scratch while not on duty. Salute to all herd dogs. You put the miles on and the hours in. And you're worth every illicit scritches.
Most puppies are mouthy. Actually stopped mine by 3 months with my grandchildrens help. Did not take long. And he doesnt chew my stuff at all. Even loose in my bedroom at night. Hes 4 1/2 months old.
For me these are my little dogs Ive always had huge digs..danes a german shepherd wolf mix bloodhounds english mastiff rough collie etc. You teach them all early no bite. Mine have been around children and babies. No issues. No food aggression gentle treat taking etc. Its training socialization and selecting right personality. Ive owned my own dogs since 15. And have always had dogs and cats and young children around.
