If I remember correctly, 1909 is the date. I have one too. Haven't quite figured out how to use it correctly. I don't want to break it, so it just sits in my garage collecting dust. Was hoping to see someone properly using it.
You adjust the cutter size to pipe size, put a lot of motor oil on the threads, then carefully turn. The thread cutters are harder steel than pipe and can make threads adequate. I used it in situations where I needed a T junction, and the existing pipe couldn't be removed to a shop threader, like at Ace Hardware shop.
I have a very similar model with adjustable teeth and adjustable guide (to centre the pipe). I just used it last night to thread some 3/4 pipe. It is pretty interesting because it has 8 teeth, 4 coarse/standard and 4 fine and the lever spins the disc to adjust both. I can't find any other videos of these old tools in action, maybe I should make one. I'd love to know if anyone still made cutting teeth for them or sold new old stock.
Goddamit!! I wanted you to show me how the dang thing worked!! I've got one almost the same, I want to free it up and make it work again! Why do so many guys post simply showing what it is without showing how it works?
Richard D Thanks for the comment. I have used it before in an attic space where I had to thread an existing pipe not easy to remove to the bench threader. It's not hard to use. But before you cut the key thread, practice on a junk pipe of same size as intended pipe to be threaded. Make sure a fitting threads easily. Put on plenty of motor oil as you manually turn the cutter. Actually, I see that Home Depot still sells these things in gas pipe sections. They don't look as pretty as my great great grandfathers threader though.
