Aaron Gierok never is slacking off. Repurposed equipment is a true measure of ingenuity. I always looked forward to what comes up next with something like this. We had an old spreader that kind of looked like that. It was a Schultz I believe.

Yes, I believe that is a Schultz.
@mikehasburgh7

I am almost certain that is a Schultz 110 model spreader, pre 1965 most likely. I sold them starting early 1970. They had wood sides in that timeframe,but older ones had steel sides. The wood block chain tightened by the gear box is original. Around 1980 they started using the long PTO shaft like yours. We sold most of the 110 with 15” rims for easier loading by hand. Keep up the good videos, I enjoy them very much. All good memories from the past.
@anthonyhengst2908
@anthonyhengst2908 Год назад
@@mikehasburgh7 thanks for commenting. We used our spreader for better than 40 years. I remember having to replace a bearing in front of the gearbox by the beaters it took us a couple of days to get a collar off. Tough business.
@tpfromcentralpa1692
@tpfromcentralpa1692 Год назад
@@mikehasburgh7 I got an old Schultz Spreadmaster I still use. Has the side extensions and top beater. Its interesting the gear box is one spead for the apron, but those engineeers must have had the speed spot on because it spreads pack manure very evenly. I got mine from the original owner. They ordered it on 15" rims like you mentioned, but sprung for the tandem axle version. I got alot of looks when I first got it, told people that were here, hang on, I got to get my big tandem axle spreader out...............They think 195 NH or 3632 NI or something similar, and out I come around the corner with this tandem axle elf spreader. The looks were priceless. Either way, it was stored in bank barn when not in use and kept clean, can still read the decals on it.

45 years ago I talked my Dad into taking the beater bar off of our manure spreader. We had such a large firewood pile outside that we could use the front end loader to load the wood into the spreader, then back into the wood shed and run the spreader to unload. Sure was quicker to stack the wood when it came to you. Always thought I was a genius for that idea but dad never said a word.

Back in the day, in our area we called that old style chain ‘flat iron’ chain, and with slats in the bottom of a spreader, combine, baler, etc. an apron chain. A real pain if one side broke and the other didn’t, that could tear stuff up real well. I always heard the tool used called a ‘chain detacher’.

Remember using the chain tool. My parents let me run the farm for a week while they took a vacation. One of the Gehl wagons had a problem with the chain while I was using it to put fresh green chopped hay into the feeder bunks in our permanent pasture. I got it fixed. Will those carriage bolt heads on the outer boards get worn by the chain links? If only getting light use, that may not matter much.
