We're putting three 100 Proof Old Forester bourbons up against each other to see whether 1897 Bottled in Bond is really that much better than Old Forester Signature 100 Proof and a random Old Forester Single Barrel Store Pick. And just for fun, let's chuck another Brown-Forman bottle in there for a middle shelf comparison: Cooper's Craft Barrel Reserve Chiseled & Charred Bourbon. Welcome to Bottom's Up! We'll pit a bottom shelfer, a mid-shelfer, and a top shelf whiskey against each other, all from the same distillery, and in this instance, the same proof point, to see if it's really worth it to shell out your hard earned cash for higher-priced whiskey.

Both Old Forester 100 and Coopers Craft 100 are excellent bottles. I think that OF 100 is one of my favorite pours.

OF 100 is always on the bar cart for me, inexpensive and pleasant. I like the 1897 but it’s too similar for twice the price IMO, so 1920 is my other OF staple.

BF is my favorite bourbon distillery, so I'd say it was a taste test of which was the very best, because there is no worst BF.

I did a side by side, not blind, OF 100 and Cooper's two nights ago. The OF 100 had been cracked for over a week and Cooper's was a neck pour, so I hope it opens up over a few weeks.

Love that Cooper's Craft bottle. Great value in my opinion. Not seen any of the Old Forester Single Barrel 100s around here yet, but been wanting to try one. I am still hanging on to the old 90 proof single barrel that I have enjoyed quite a bit. Nice to see Mavis getting comfy behind the camera ❤ Cheers!

Love the channel. OF is one of my favorite distilleries and I always keep bottles of 100, 1910 and 1920 on hand. I was able to get an OF SB Barrel Strength recently. Just picked up a Cooper’s Craft 100 to try. Thanks for the comparisons.

I always get a ton of Cherry on OF100. Honestly I think 1897 is very underrated, always forgotten in the shadows behind the 1920 and 1910, which don’t get me wrong are delicious, but the spice I get on the 1897 is always a pleasant experience. Granted I really like spicy bourbon and I enjoy ryes, so makes sense.

On a positive note, OF100 is still a great bargain. Cheers!! As hard as it is to admit, sometimes, the price tag on higher end pours is justified by their balance and better drinking experience.

Very well said. The OF100 has a permanent place on our shelf for the value alone. We actually enjoy the 86 as well. It's a great weekender bottle to share with friends at a campsite.

I have done a head to head with OF 100 and 1897 several times and can never really get that much of a difference. Especially not a $25 difference. Definitely wish I could find an OF single barrel for $50!

The 1897 is $32 more than OF 100 in my area. I can't justify that to even try by most of the comments I see.

Love these! I always have an OF product on the shelf and always keep the OF100 Rye, especially for Old Fashioneds. Never had the CC100 but may finally take the plunge. Have you done this with other distilleries? Would love to see a Four Roses lineup, Makers Mark, or Wilderness Trail.

I just can't get myself to reach up and grab the bottle (750ml) of 1897 BIB $54.99 when there is a bottle of (1L) Old Forester Signature 100 Proof for $37.99 just below it, considering they are both identical from what I can find online except for the BIB with the 1897? and the price of the single barrel makes it out of reach even if I could find it? I have a 1L of the 86 proof that is quite good also. Great review 🥃Cheers!

We always keep it in the decanter, because it has such a rich color and drinks so nice. We're at that point in this bottle where we start getting raspberry notes on it and we love it.

@@TheBourbonVan you guys find it easy to find in Oregon ?? Here in Colorado it's hit or miss. My wife and I were vacationing in South Dakota last June it's very easy to find there. Saw it in a lot of stores one having it for $25

1897 is $53 here in Florida. Not worth it (IMO). I can’t find the single barrel. For me, the Cooper’s Craft 100 would be my pick. Nothing wrong with OF 100. It’s just nothing special. Of course it’s only $26 here, so I can’t complain too much.
