The best part was seeing Sam Lake's huge grin while performing it. You could tell he was having a blast. This was pure vindication for him. People kept telling him that AW was dead and AW2 would never be made because no one would buy it since AW1 didnt initially sell well. Over a decade later, he proved them all wrong and created a masterpiece.
@@Horrorizacio Same. I am happy BG3 won and everything I have seen/heard from it is insane. But AW2 is 1000% my jam and just lives rent free in my head.
Sam Lake has been slowly turning this group of games into a Pre-Marvel multiverse that has been slowly gaining steam and acclaim. People just need to let him cook. He obviously knows what he's doing.
Knowing Sam Lake's crazy-ass writing/lore-building, it wouldn't surprise me that this segment is probably canon to the games and Alan briefly appeared in the real world through an Overlap, lol.
Yeah, this is surely part of some of the loops Alan goes through whilst trying to get out of the Dark Place. Are those bouncers out there between the audience and the stage? Or are they undercover FBC agents?
This performance made the ENTIRE show worthwhile for me to stream with my roommates for 3-4 hours. Both of em never played AW2 so my giddy excitement was PALPABLE. Now one of em wants to watch me play this. Haha
Alan Wake 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Larian, Remedy, they deserved all the love. Along with all the other amazing titles. Even if they didn't win, no one can deny their quality and impact. 2023 was a great year for gaming.
Hilarious to see BG3 haters lose their marbles though 😂 but ye I totally agree with you. Best year in gaming since 2010 and im glad BG3 and AW 2 won most awards.
I found them waaaaaay back in 2005 when the credit rolled for Max Payne 2. I fell in love with their music, and it is so good to see a game developer ton incorporate a band into its game from the same country as they are from (Finland). The fact that all the Old Gods of Asgards songs that are in the games (AW1, Control, AW2) are actually narrative setpieces and all of the add to the story and/or the lore of the games.
@@DuBstep115 It makes sense, of course, I just wasn't expecting him to appear at all, since Matthew Poretta was needed to sing. Then again, I didn't expect Matthew Poretta or David Harewood either. It was such a nice surprise that they reenacted a bit of the musical.
Check out stage right - Matt Porretta joins in for the final chorus, too! There are a few phone-cam vids from the ceremony itself in which you can see him much more clearly.
Someone's comment at the end of the stream "Half the audience must be thinking WTF" - I can't even imagine what people who didn't play the game thought of this. Sitting there like "wait, isn't this supposed to be a horror game? Why the fuck is there a musical number?" I love it so much. Especially Sam Lake smiling so wide as he danced it home with them. Fucking amazing.
that smile on Sam's face is the smile of a guy who knows he was right to fight to keep the sequence in the game because it's gone on to become a defining moment in modern popular culture. you could also see he was having the time of his life on that stage too, he was living his best life
I think he wrote this dance and song into the game just so he could perform this at the game awards! Lol! Jokes aside, I am so freaking glad they did this with the actual cast of the game! Bravo Remedy and The Game Awards!
Old gods of Asgard/Poets of the Fall is insanely good and Marko Saaresto is a god. I loved this. Sam Lake seems so damn happy and the performance from everyone was perfect.
I wish it was like 12 mins with the jazz section BUT I'm still happy this happened lol, seeing Sam Lake up there dancing with the glee of a 5 year old could probably walk a depressed person off the ledge of suicide
Found this video randomly. I'm so glad I have found I'm not the only who got overhyped and obsessed with the performance, the song, Remedy, Sam Lake and the dance!! 😂😍 Rakastan Suomi!!!
@@pate7179 i have seen some of their videos on RU-vid and I really enjoy their music and actually being in the Alan Wake 2 video game was really awesome and the performance on the awards show with the cast of AW2 was also really Awesome as well and is my favorite video game along with the first Alan Wake video game as well Thanks Kiitos ystava.🇫🇮👍
You know its a masterpiece when you can cut a full fifteen minute track down to four minutes for the The Game Awards and a radio edit and still get the full package across.
For best music it was such a hard choice. In my opinion, Alan Wake 2 had the best vocal music, Final Fantasy XVI the best orchestral. How do you pick between those? Both games also had a cinematic music sequence I will never forget. Glad I didn't have to pick.
Loved music in both Alan Wake 2 and BG3. The compositions and implementation were just perfect. Both let the music take the center stage in multiple story moments.
Sam Lake's smile looks like the smile of someone who just successfully wrote an iconic rock opera into existence in the middle of a video game!!! God Bless!!
I've said it across a few videos already, but the musical parts of the show were genuinely amazing this year. Usually those segments (except for the GoTY orchestra) are a hard skip for me for varying reasons, but Heilung - whom I absolutely love - perfectly set the tone and mood for the Hellblade trailer they were also featured in, and POTF/OGOA absolutely killed it here.
This was the best part of the show and I haven't even played Alan Wake 1 or 2 (although I went and installed the first game just after watching this live).
@@jereztf9337 he came in late during a lot of his queues. It’s nothing serious and in fact I doubt anybody who hasn’t watched the OG music video a bunch could even tell
@@jereztf9337 It's mostly a couple of times he isn't in sync or missed the start of the parts that are being song by Matthew the voice actor for Alan. The only time it was obvious on stream was when he is sitting on top of the dancer. To be fair, that part was recorded in segements and in the studio for the game and it was likely months back if not more.. So for as quickly as this was set up for the show.. pretty awesome performance.
Not sure if you were ever lucky enough to see Poets of the Fall live, but if you ever get the chance, take it. I've been a big fan of them ever since Max Payne 2 and seen them live 7 times now, and it's always a party. Marko's voice live is amazing 🙂
i replayed control and max payne 1-2 right after alan wake 2, just to experience remedy game magic again. although max payne felt more amazing now story wise as I played it first when I was a kid
I waited 13 years for alan wake 2 and it really worthed it.i finished alan wake 2 five times and i'm still addicted to the story.i'm really hyped for the ng+ and the new draft I FCKIN LOVE SAM LAKE
I wish the entire band would've been there and that it wouldn't have been playback/singback (Captain on keys instead of drums, Jari on drums and Jani on bass - it's apparent that neither Captain nor Marko are in their right instrumental elements, several things not matching the sound. Marko raises his right hand during his first singing part but the bass line keeps going, just as an example) - but it was still real damn cool to see! And Sam Lake's happiness is so palpable, he must be protected at all costs.
Sam Lake just redefined art in AW2. He is unmatched. Not even Kojima can compete with him anymore. The best story writer and art director of the century.
