80 year old grandmother would like a 32" decorative wheel for her remodeled kitchen. Not being able to find an old wheel that was the right size, I built her a new wheel, to the size she needed, and made it look old.

I think I understand your feelings towards wheel building but I just want to echo what others have already said: There is ABSOLUTELY NO CHANCE that I would ever consider watching you build wheels to be redundant or even remotely undesirable! While I thoroughly enjoy watching you do just about anything requiring your level of craftsmanship and dedication to the trade, I'm especially captivated by both the science behind being a wheelwright and your personal application of the considerable knowledge and skills you carry around inside your brain. If I could only watch one RU-vid channel I have no doubt it would be this one. As always Dave: a sincere thank you for allowing us along on this wonderful journey of yours.

This is a true testament to your work ethic! This a decorative wheel for a woman who, God willing, will enjoy it for 10 or 15 years, but you constructed like it was going on a wagon for real use (minus a shortened hub!). You, sir, are a National Treasure! Thank you for archiving your knowledge for the craftsmen yet to come!

The wheel work videos are my favorite videos to watch . I am suffering table saw envy. Fortunately, I don't have space for one like yours. My work area is filled with mostly warn out tools that I purchase new . I need to start moving them to new homes because of my advanced years, but every time I decide to start disposing of toolsand equipment, a project comes up, causing me to use the items I was about to liquidate. Just last week, I found myself purchasing replacement toolsfor some that no longer functioned to do a job I needed to get done. I no longer purchase the top quality, just good enough to get a job done. Lollol.

I've been making sawdust for over 50 yrs and I don't like to do the same thing over and over. It becomes boring and almost automatic. I'd much rather take on a project that takes alittle head scratching. That being said, I never tire of watching a true craftsman work even if it's watching them do the same things such as building wheels. I appreciate your talents and thanks for sharing.

Dave I had a similar problem when I sold my HVACR company a little over 2 years ago. I had a one year commitment to the new company that bought me out. But one of my best customers had a Spiral freezer project that I was the only one that knew how to put it back together after moving it. What was supposed to be a 3 month extension turned into a year plus extra project! So I lost one year of retirement.

For those that don't have a sandblaster, a wire brush wheel does the same job, taking out more of the soft grain and leaving the harder, giving the same weathered character. Many people do it this way to make "old barn wood" for picture frames, etc. Great job, Dave. It really looks nice...an old wheel that's been taken care of.

I’m just finishing a complete interior remodel of a 140 yr old farm house. The client wants an old farm house, not a new house that looks old. Unfortunately certain things cannot be saved, like the door threshold that was so warn down it had only splinters holding the two sides together. I took a section of the old salvages flooring from upstairs and made a new threshold complete with the diagonal wear pattern the the clients grandfather had worn into every doorway in the house. I feel like I know that old foot dragger in some way. We matched his trim work and kept to his original style in the new addition to the house. The family had an open house last weekend for friends and family to see what we’ve been up to. All are please with how we kept everything original… even though the entire house was gutted back to the studs. I’ll take that as a compliment. Nice job on the wheel.
