British really maintained Chennai well not just for their own comfort. To all civilians but unfortunately we people didn't maintained it as it was before
My fathr, a medico... at madras in 1950... He walked through that street.. with frnds to see english, movies and to have a cup of tea,.. He is now no more 🤔🤔🤔.. Just I see.. his... routs... with.. tears.. 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Wow... Thank you so much for posting this video. It's wonderful to see my city. I love my Madras... Trams in Mount road, electric trains. .... 5 star... :)
Our grandfathers were very lucky to enjoy the clean environment. Very nice to see our city in 1942. Our city was very nice upto 1960s. But after that ?
After that ...... Caste politics, language politics, party politics, religious politics, education politics, multiplicity of parties, money politics, muscle politics, dishonesty, alcohol politics, corruption of people's minds, and finally reduction of people to beggars, through freebies politics.
@@rsn1660 What distinguishes humans from lesser evolved creatures is their advanced brain. And to harness the potential of this organ takes discipline and training. It has to be trained to do things *far beyond* what animals do with theirs. The Brahmins recognized this early on. Some others are still trying. Wish them good luck.
@@rsn1660 I too wish we had 130 crore supreme courts in the country. Then you and me could have one each ( and even be the sole judge in it )! But, unfortunately, Indian Democracy allows for only ONE SC - to oversee an INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY. So as long as i wish to have an Indian Citizenship, i am bound by its decrees and appeal processes. I am quite comfortable with that, because i do not have plans on taking a different Citizenship as of now.
It was real pain at the time. In camera, old thing looked great. In realty those time, people lived with no outlook and ambitions. Finding job was next to impossible otherwise meager earnings. In home, always crowded with relatives and no place to even relax. No electricity at home and most of us were really hungry all the time. Communication took months to reach near and dears. Only pain and depression at that time. Life is so great now than it was then.
In 1942, India had one-fifth of the current population, and 1/10,000 of cars on the road. Rural people were happy in their villages and did not have to migrate to cities to survive. Most people did not travel much and only men went to work. The 1942 Madras is no comparison to the current Madars.
Madras city in those time were travelled by us mostly by walk or imported Japanese bicycles. Everyone close to eachother not much outside people. Decent rented portion had costed monthly rent of Rs.4 or less. It's very easy to meet Annathurai and Karunanidhi to talk. Life was not great but pretty ordinary for everyone with minimal physical and social infrastructures. Today's India is better and superb but filled with cheats. There is no such golden days. Every period has it's own advantages and disadvantages. Enjoy today before it becomes yesterday.

I was proud of my native town Tanjore which is the cultura capital of TN.After joining as auditor in AGs in 1976 Madras became my second hometown! It was emergency period.fundamental rights enshrined in our constitution was suspended. No rights or freedom to citizens. News papers were gagged. Any one critical of govt was imprisoned. Thuqlaq Cho was exception as also the ruling dmk govt in Tamil nadu!l later it was dismissed by Indira Gandhi govt. The price control of hotel foods poori kizhangu 30 paise.janata full meals for one rupee was commendable! Now we feel like emergency minus price control which in hotels sky rocketing!

what ever all may say the Britishers ruled the country well, and planning was long sighted. Can any one say that the present governments ( state and central ) did any flawless planning.
Even today, Chennai can be as clean as it was in the sixties. Only the citizens should keep the city clean n our political parties do not put stickers or write-up s at every available place.
@@Sathish_12 They were less before. They created caste system and evil and enslaved poor innocent people. Then, Birtish came and kick their ass and Brahmins did jalra for British. After that, British hand over power to Brahmins, then India became dirty, poor country. Other countries treat India as unhygienic country with terrible administration.

Very clean looking I think main culprit for today's uncleanness and trash is plastic packaging and our mind-set of use and throw mentality. When I was 10 years old if you go to any hotel you have bring own utencial for sambhar and chutney likewise rice , oil everything you have to carry own bag or glass bottle. Even if you buy a Chappell they would give only a card board box no plastic cover
