This was unexpected since i suffer from mild/severe depression & anxiety so i was caught off guard a bit and it left me speechless. I will try to do a followup video on my thoughts if/when my mood will allow it.
Just to mention I was SEVERELY, suicidally depressed for nearly 2 decades (I couldn't commit suicide while my mom was alive - I knew it would kill her) and I ultimately found relief in a combination of anti-depressants (which took a frustratingly long time to find) which I was able to stop taking after I'd been well for several years. I've now been depression free (apart from normal bs) for 23 years and medication free for 20, so DON'T DESPAIR! At NO POINT in human history have there been more resources for those of us visited by what Winston Churchill described as 'the black dog.' Keep fighting! There's help out there. And DEFINITELY keep reacting!

Same here. My late partner was bipolar with psychotic episodes. Hits hard. It is a pendulum - like a metronome. Keep it wound up because when it stops the light, the dance and life stop too. Let's see what happens next!?
Saturday, January 14th, 2023 was the first time I heard Ren. This song blew my mind, but I really wasn't expecting much from him. Over the past year, Ren has become my favorite artist of my 57 years. I had the same favorite artist for over 40 years until this guy. Crazy. Great reaction. Liked and subscribed.
I'm curious who Ren replaced as your favorite artist and did you love everything that artist did. I first heard him Dec 22, 2022 and have listened to him every single day since. I have never appreciated an artist's work in the way I'm appreciating every single song Ren does. He is special, and I can only guess that it's his authenticity and openness that makes me love his art. I have not found a song I don't like from Ren.
@@sahuero9620 He lets us KNOW him as a person. We've seen him laugh, cry, get angry, goof around. He lets us into his world, the good, bad and ugly. I think it's one of the reasons everyone feels so connected to him. He doesn't know us but we are all his best friends. And he could sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and we'd all go crazy over it. haha.
@@sahuero9620 Led Zeppelin. And yes, not only do I love everything they did, I also love everything the surviving members did as solo artists as well. What I love about them is similar to what I love about Ren: an ability to do a variety of styles at a high level. Ren is #1 in my heart and mind now due primarily to the depth of his lyrics coupled with an absolute mercurial ability to switch up his musical style. Plus he can collaborate like nobody's business.
@@Dstinii honestly, he became my number one favorite before I'd had any type of interaction with him or knowledge of how he is as a person. I'd long ago learned to separate my love of an artist's music from who they seemed to be as people as a number of them had atrocious stories associated with them.
Ren has this profound effect on most of us. Music is Ren's life. He lost a record deal at 20 when he was hit hard by illness misdiagnosed to be bi polar and then chronuc fatigue. 7 years later he was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease. 2 stem cell transplants brought him back to life, but he still has many symptoms. Including constant pain, neurological and brain damage and allergic reactions to all but about5 foods. He has been in Canada in treatment this whole past year, but produced an album in 2021 mostly, that was released in Oct of 2023 that went to #1 in the UK. He crosses all genres. He also speaks eloquently for the voiceless who are chronically physically and mentally ill. You are right. He reaches right in and speaks our souls. We love him dearly. Do Sick Boi that deals with his resentment against the medical industry. And the the Full Tales of Jenny and Screech. There is a lot of variety in his catalogue. I subbed for more and will post your link in the Ren Community. Buckle up!

Renegade here. I found Ren and Hi Ren video coming on a year ago one night when I couldn't sleep because of pain and I wept on first hearing and I have watched reactions to Hi Ren every day since and wept every time for months. Ren is cathartic ❤

I just saw your Hi Ren reaction, and put this journal entry of Ren's as my comment to that reaction. I'm posting it here , so you don't miss it. jAN 01, 2023 rEN~ Up until I was 9 years old, I would intermittently hear a voice in my head that was not my own. The voice was distinctly different to mine, and always negative. It would self criticize or urge me to do things I knew to be morally wrong. The most peculiar thing about the voice was that it took no effort on my behalf to produce. My own thoughts always felt like there was a process that required effort to bring them to the forefront of my mind, this voice appeared as though it was spoken by another. The sentences felt predetermined like they had already been constructed. I remember very vividly at 9 years old, becoming very frustrated with the voice. I stood in my back yard, internally screaming at the voice to be silent again and again, and it did. In a flash there was silence, to the point where my head felt like an empty room. I wasn't used to the quiet and that voice never returned. It almost felt lonely in my head. When I got older I had intermittent bouts with auditory hallucinations where I would hear perfect symphonies, usually at night when drifting off to sleep. They were so clear that they sounded like they were emanating from a radio in the corner of my room. I knew they weren't there, but for some reason they never came with the feeling of fear. I also recall sitting on a bus at the age of 15, and hearing the sound of a crowded room, with about 100 voices chattering away, I was the only person apart from the driver on the bus. These experiences were always very brief, and few and far between. My last hallucination was during an intense bout of psychosis in 2015, and was my first visual hallucination. I was walking down a pavement after jumping out my mums car in a crossroads in a moment of frustration and distress with my condition. I was trying to run from myself. What appeared to be a homeless man with a dark complexion approached me, and asked me what was wrong. I explained that I had been sick most my life, and I wasn't sure I had the strength to continue. He looked at me, and smiled and told me 'everything is going to be okay in the end Ren.' I had not told him my name. There was something so overpoweringly sincere about this very simple message, which brought with it an overwhelming feeling of inner peace, and in a flash, he vanished. My rational brain always linked these experiences to what the doctors have told me, that there are parts of my brain compromised by the autoimmunity in my body. That the myelin sheaths surrounding the complex electrical system that conduct my thoughts were damaged and compromised, causing these lucid experiences that I knew did not exist inside the physical world. The part of me that edges away from logical and rational thought always attributed these thoughts to some kind of otherworldly intervention, that made my thoughts the battleground of some spiritual tug of war. For a long time I never really acknowledged this part of myself, for with it brought the danger and stigma of sounding like a crazy person. I decided with my latest release, to the best of my ability, to capture and express this chess match of thought. Hi Ren comes out in just over 24 hours. I can't wait for you all to hear it.

Ren is an amazing artist. I've been so impressed with like 99% of his catalog of music. I honestly find it hard to describe him to friends and family as he is very diverse in his talent, and good at it. He makes his art to speak for itself alone and he executes the whole package flawlessly in my opinion. He makes it almost look easy if it weren't realizing how much time, effort, practice, fine tuning, to a fine point of focus to pull off what he does. Alot of the fine details weren't by accident, every thing seems to be planed out and serve a purpose. From singing (all styles) to rapping (bars/flows/schemes for days), Bardcore (story telling) beatbox, makes his own beats, scatting and a multi instrumentalist (guitars, bass, drums, melodica and more). On top of that he is the most beautiful human being inside and out who has been through and continues to go through absolute hell. He’s 33 from Anglesey, Wales originally but spent most his life in Brighton, England. He’s been living in Calgary, Canada all year receiving intense medical treatment for his brain damage and mast cell activation disorder amongst other things. He started off making beats at 12 and selling CDs then moved on to busking. He was part of a band called Trick The Fox and was signed to Sony but they didn’t renew the contract after his health deteriorated. He then started The Big Push. They went on hiatus the end of last year after 5 years partly due to his move to Canada and also because the other members are also soloists and were moving around too. I Fell into the REN hole about 3 or4 weeks ago, Amazing different, unique. He is doing something new and I really like it and him. It's awesome to have been on the Ren train, while not from the beginning 13 years ago, definitely from the time this song came out a year ago and watched Ren's popularity explode, And yet there are still people discovering him through this song a year later. It's very awesome to see. And to be sure, thos is NOT a "typical" song from him, because he doesn't have a type. His art covers and mixes multiple genres and multiple topics and vibes. Pretty much my reaction a year ago, when I first heard this song. Great start to your Ren journey, wherever you go in his catalogue, you will laugh, cry, be astonished and inspired, but never bored or disappointed ….you got a new sub my friend ❤
This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet. The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

Oh, Ren can sing alright. He is just so bleeping good at it, he does not need to prove anything to anyone. He sings when it suits him, not when it suits us, the viewers. Oh, but when he does, its magic. Edited to add, he does rock if you want, and reggae, and jazz, and rap, and metal, and folk and anything else you request. He is deep, and at times he is quirky and funny and cheeky. He writes to get the world discussing various subjects which are important, yet not discussed by our modern societies. I truly believe Ren's music will have a massive impact. The community he has is amazing! He reaches people in a way other artists dont. He can pull deep emotion out of you in a very unexpected way. You are overwhelmed but keep coming back for more because it is connecting and healing. Everything he and his band The Big Push do is magic. So talented.
Please remember to alternate the heavy and profound songs with the lighter, fun ones. Of course the inclination is to run to 'Jenny & Screech' immediately, but I'd give you the tip to try 'Power' (which is a hip hop song) or maybe his cover of 'I shot the sheriff' in which he reincarnates Bob Marley, or 'Chalk Outlines' which shows off his voice! There is plenty of time to orientate yourself before rushing to be bowled over by his other masterpieces! Ren is an artist of the 21st century so social media posts are part of his 'oeuvre' . When you are ready, YT will show you a 17 year old in so much pain that he wants to die, and a YToober with a million subs who is still humble, sensitive, thoughtful and beautiful!

You’re in trouble now. You have so much more to discover with Ren! So you’re about to take a wild rollercoaster ride! He’s done all kinds of Genres and does them all really damn well! He’s got everything you can imagine, even putting his lyrics over an EDM beat called “Losing It” by Fisher. You should do The Tales of Jenny/Screech/Violet. And the “Money Game” trilogy, and his “Love Music” trilogy. I honestly believe Ren is a once in a generation great. He writes, produces, sings, raps and even beat boxes on some of his own tracks. What I love in this video is how he ends it in a chorus that is hopeful. The speech at the end is exactly what every young person going through this needs to hear; That it does get easier. That you grow to adjust around those struggles and it is less devastating, so no young person does anything irreversible. Even if I still carry these same issues, it HAS gotten easier to withstand them and relax, no doubt. I feel like I have already been at the bottom and there's nothing that can take me down, even if there's still a long way to finding whatever "happiness" is. If there's one thing that eats at me anymore, is loneliness. That can be the only thing that kills me in the end, but it's hard to make people want to spend time with you (as a male), when you're not someone who can .. support them. I know you'll get a lot of recommendations for more Ren songs, and they are all worth a listen. For a very different side of Ren, highlighting more of his diverse talent, my recommendation is Losing It. No doubt he's an impressive story teller, but Losing It is fun and showcases his mind-blowing ability to spit lyrics.

You're going to get all sorts of song recommendations. The honest truth is, every song in his catalog is worth checking out. Some of it will punch you in the gut, some will make you cry, some will make you sing along, some will make you laugh. Between Ren and friends (Chinchilla, Sam Tompkins, Viktus, Ren's band The Big Push with amazing musicians) and even people he has suggested listening to, like Dirt Miller...it's so worth your time. If you did a Ren reaction once a week, like you mentioned in the comments, you'll have more than enough to keep you reacting to Ren for a year...but the question will be....do you have the willpower to take it song by song and wait that long to get through his music?

I am not in love with ALL of his work, but I certainly do respect it and I love more than I don't particularly care for. There is much to discover here! I wish you the best with your channel! Yes, that's a common effect of this song. Check out the Tale of Jenny and Screech. It's a 13 minute video with three related stories which need to be watched in order for full effect. It's got more of the performance side of Ren which you picked out, plus some really dark and difficult themes, plus some excellent guitar playing.
Ren does know how to bring emotion out of his songs. His style is extremely eclectic he has almost like a different sound every single time,although he does have a majority of the rap lately he has plenty of rock with his band The Big Push War Pigs is fun and definitely check out his collabs with Chinchilla i wouldn't suggest Chalk Outlines yet because it will hit you hard How to Be Me might be a better option at first.
Best Summary! "A really talented guy that can get inside peoples feelings and touch their hearts." Correct! And Ren has something to say. In fact.. a LOT to say. He tackles the hard topics, the one's we prefer to look away from. Ren is not only a mega talented creative artist, who skips across and dips in and out of all genres, effortlessly, but he's also a powerful social commentator. He challenges us to- Stop - Look - Think. He says; Listen! There's a lot of sh--t going on. We can do Better than this. We are ALL responsible. We need to turn things around. For something you've never experienced before try Jenny and Screech full version with Violets tale and the Money Game trilogy in order (money game 2 the lyrics version). 2. To get to know Ren on a personal level check out his 1 million subscribers video. This is where I truly got hooked on his soul. 3. I would love to see your Tree tattoo, I'm 61 years old and really want to get my first tattoo but haven't decided on what. ❤

Oh boy you are in for a treat, yes Ren can sing......in literally any genre possible. you just have to allow yourself to fall down the Ren-Rabbit hole. watch him with his bank (the big push) with their live busking videos, watching him with his solo one take videos on his own channel and I hope like me and soooo many others your life and playlist will be better off watching and listening to this man and his band share their talents because Ren is Freaking multitalent, and an amazing person
