Chris Stapleton did a great job singing the National Anthem at the 2023 Superbowl, but was it the best of all time? He would have to go some to top the performance of Marvin Gaye 40 years ago at the NBA All-Star game in 1983. What do you say?
Here is a link to our previous reaction to two songs by Marvin:

I have written a Substack article that can serve as a blueprint to this channel. It is an update of a column I wrote in 2017 about my Top 40 musical artists. I brought it up to date by adding 10 additional artists, most of whom were not around 7 years ago. In the article are links to over 50 of my reaction videos and I will keep it up to date as I make more videos.
The article is here:

I've really enjoyed all the debate in the comments about these two great performances. For those who are younger, this article does a great job of explaining who Marvin was and why his rendition was so ground-breaking! andscape.com/features/marvin-gaye-the-star-spangled-banner-1983-nba-all-star-game-players-anthem/

After listening to both renditions, Vocally, Marvin Gaye wins hands down, So Smooth, So Soulful Melts like Butter with A R&B-Reggae Beat BUT Chris Stapleton solo guitar 🎸 🎸🎸performance Totally Amazing, with a country blues flavor He wins over the R&B Beat , Stapleton has the better music but Marvin wins vocally so that makes it a tie overall, I’m a black guy but I’m definitely a new fan of Chris Stapleton He reminds me of Willie Nelson but Chris is better vocally 😎😜
