This guy could drop me in my tracks. There are a few singers--VERY few--who can bring tears to my eyes just with the sound of their voices. This is one of those singers.
Maynor is a magnificent singer. I heard him live some years ago; his voice was larger and more vibrant than that of any other true bass in my experience. Yet a caveat or two: Maynor has never mastered his upper register. He opens the top E natural, and every higher note is thin, rather dull in timbre. This is sad at least, at worst tragic. For Maynor had the vocal and artistic potential to become one of the greatest basses of all time.
