The final animal - coccodrillo or crocodile, in English - is a reference to an Italian children's song that won the Zecchino d'Oro competition - probably 40 years ago. The song's title is "il coccodrillo come fa?" The point of the song is that no one knows what noise a crocodile makes; so the show's host, Enrico Brignano, was stuck for an answer when that animal was suggested. The child singer still appears on Italian TV every so often and they play the recording of him when he was only 3 - 4 years old.
I should have added that the zecchino d'oro was a pure coin used in Venice at the time of its supremacy as a trading power. I believe that it influenced the name now given to a sequin and sequin would be a good translation of zecchino. You will probably recall - from the Merchant of Venice - that Venetian currency was called the Ducat.
