Today is all about that ASS! Join Maddie, Amanda and Omar as they discuss Grant Morrison's 12 issue series All Star Superman. How does this classic hold up with our new readers!
Great episode! Like many, this is also my favorite Superman story. It just put a smile on my face the whole time reading it. Also enjoying Tomasi's Superman. Oh yes! This is Big news! Time for some Hickman goodness. Was hoping you guys would read F4 first. Happy birthday Maddie!
That would be Benjamin Percy. I have the first 2 trades but only recently found out it's getting a hardcover in a few months which I'm going to have to get now.
Mady's hot. Ok, I'll cut it out. Thx guys and can't wait for the next airing, I enjoy these shows with you three. Have a wonderful day. oh, Happy B-Day Maddy.
Missed it live...welcome back Omar, happy birthday Maddie, great review Amanda!! awesome show as always I haven't read a lot of superman so i have little to compare this too but i liked Allstar
Phillip! Thank you for catching it later and for always tuning in. All Star had everything I loved about Supes in one giant awesome story. Our next big read is Hickman's Avengers all the way through Secret Wars on the 24th.
I just finished this and its the first Superman book I've read. The first stories were awesome and then my brain just got scrambled with the mid stories. I just picked up the 2 first rebirth issues and so far its good.
I am a HUGE Superman fan. I have a custom made costume. He is great for everything he does not do with his powers. Everybody can look up to him. The 1st time I saw Christopher Reeves on tv, I thought this guy's got his act together and I want to be like him. So I grew up wanting to be like Superman. When life is too hard, I think what would Superman do and I do that. When I have a nightmare, I rip my shirt open and I fix it as Superman. SECRET IDENTITY is my all time favorite Superman story. It's about a man's life and it's Superman. BIRTHRIGHT is my favorite Superman origin story and I agree with Melanie it is a better introduction to the carachter. My first Superman comics was MAN OF STEEL by John Byrne, which is awesome! ALL STAR is a great encompassing Superman story. Superman has many great runs and they are great for different reasons.
Not sure if this was ever mentioned, but how about J.M.Straczynski's Grounded run on Superman(that is out of print btw). I collected it in singles when it came out but never completed it. What I did read felt more personal than All-Star Superman. Not to say All Star Superman wasn't any good. But when I finished All-Star Superman I remember being somewhat confused about certain parts. I guess I like my stories straightforward. Maybe I'll try reading it again since it's been a while. As far as Green Arrow stories I know Black Canary doesn't show up in it but the new 52 Jeff Lemire run is without a doubt my favourite. That single handedly got me into Jeff Lemire and was totally a blind buy for me.
Lloyd, it was good to see you on omnibros yesterday and yes, Grounded is a phenomenal series. I hated that JMS didn't get to finish his story he started, but it was great while it lasted.
Thank you and Jess and sometimes Ryley and Gabe for giving us entertaining episodes every Thursday. It works out really well because I have my day off on Thursday so I can participate. On more than a few occasions I've slept through some of the episodes. The Grounded reply really helped me because I was unaware of JMS not finishing his run and what I did read I enjoyed. I know you guys have an idea of which GA run you'd like to feature in one of the shows but I hoped for Lemire's New 52 just because of well Lemire. I know you aren't a big fan of his his art so I figured I'd exclude Essex County and Sweet Tooth and GA would be perfect because It's about as close to a perfect run as one can write for a superhero.I keep making recommendations I'm not sure you guys could ever get to with everything on your queue. I just look forward to seeing new and old opinions on some great runs of books.
I enjoy the channel videos, I just showed some videos to my gf and she loved your One Piece figures... and ...she also said and I quote "He can have that because he has space and money, you don't"
U guys need to read 90s X-Force LOL but seriously Omar needs to recommend books he deems bad but not tell u girls what he thinks just to see how every one else feels kus he likes Avengers Crossing & hates Civil War were is the Logic there LOL
I'm not going to lie even though I get with Grant Morrison is trying to do with the series and really try to make us understand Superman in a different way and just pay homage to those stories of old I wasn't a big fan of the series I'm not going to lie I mean it had great moments but it was just I couldn't connect with this version of Superman Amy Grant Morrison showed sides of Superman that really not a lot of writers use nowadays I mean he's a caring person especially that girl that was on top of that building and he was just talking to her and say hey I do care that she was like just one of the jump but he was showing her that he did care that was one of those was I did say yeah that was a good moment but in the entirety of the series I just felt like it it was not my cup of tea not my cup of tea of Superman basically I mean it had great moments but it was just for me was like I'm not really connecting with this version of Superman
