Im a vauxhall man, owning both a gsi and vxr, but those mk1 focus RS's are absolute perfection, timeless design, iconic sparco seats and a fantastic powerplant, they really are something special. Glad the GSI won though, z20 power ftw!

The RS was custom designed from the ground up. Very similar to the current GR Yaris. Colin McCrae was involved in set up and design. Only 3000 made worldwide. Vauxhall had fallen off a cliff at this point. Ten a penny GSi.

I've got a 1.8 coupe and the close ratio box is great for 0-60. On the motorway however it gets a bit too revvy

The RS driver gives me anxiety with those late gear changes. GSi owner knows how to get the best out of the power delivery

Used to own a 300bhp mk1 focus rs back in the day number 2730, it was quick but really struggled at that power level, also being a 5 speed gearbox top end was terrible. Remember when I bought it brand new front tyres, after 1 year and 4.5k miles they were 0.6mm of tread left 😂😂😂

Im a Ford man but love performance Vauxhalls too, according to your figures the GSi does have a slight power advantage and with the greatest of respect, the Focus driver is twice the size of the Vauxhall driver 🤣 we all know the real winner though dont we? How many GSis are left? They must be rarer than Mk1 FRSs surely? And whats their comparative value? Case closed 👍🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

The z20 is a beast of an engine, had a few high power Vauxhalls but I think the owners need to prove there power figures cos that focus got owned every time. So either the focus ain’t got 425hp or the Astra has more than 450hp?? Either way mad one from them both.

The RS chassis struggles with these power levels, mine was 300bhp and became a tyre shredder, Clarkson back in the day commented on how the front end would weave on stock power levels 😂 it was THE best handling hot hatch of its day however and ford lost around £4.5k on everyone that rolled of the production line, serious parts were used on every aspect, sachs clutch, garret turbo, sparco seats just endless

Quick suggestion: can you do two leaderboards for 0-60 and 1/4 mile times? There’s no way anything like this is ever going to match supercars like the 911. It’d be good to have a supercar leaderboard and then an everyday normal car leaderboard.

With 450 lb-ft, but only 425 bhp, the Focus looks like it needs a bigger turbo (more specifically, a bigger hot side), eg. a Gt3076r. Seems like the GT28 is running out of airflow at the top end. GT28s are 400bhp turbos really. BTW love both those cars, and love the content. Respect to the owners for giving them the thrashing they deserve!

Quality line up!!! I used to have a GSi and loved how rare it was to see another, although they were released at a similar time that MK1 Focus RS was built to a much better spec from factory… Still, the z20 is so easy to tune I still love them today.

The Focus RS had Brembo brakes, Quaife differential, Sachs suspension, AP Racing clutch and a set of OZ Racing wheels from the factory, The Astra was not no rival to this. Both cars are very well built and was a good race, Focus had the wrong wrong tyres Astra was on job.

@@warrenb666 yeah agreed much heavier front end due to the bigger engine but it’s the same chassis and same suspension design. My first focus, 04 diesel opened my eyes on handling and my STs are the same. I run a bmw 120d msport as my daily which isn’t as fast as my fabia vrs (mapped) but drives better. If I could get more than 20 mpg out of the focus I’d be buzzing lmao.

Another nice car comparison. As a car, I like the focus a lot more, but the driver of the astra is faster in the changes and probably knows how to start it better.(it is not only the + 25 bhp the difference)

A ford guy over a vauxhall guy and the way that astra pulls away would really make me think that the rs ain't making 425 or the astra is making a good chunk more than 450 but either way fair play to that astra. It gets going real well. MUCH prefer old skool races to new school 👌 anyone can use factory fitted launch control with a stage 2 map 🤷‍♂️

the astra is a great handling car, especially at high speed (country road style) corners, it took a bmw m3 about 7-8 miles to escape my 120bhp diesel astra G on country roads.

@@Soulvex yes M3 isn't practical in these areas but still I don't think the astra is a great chassis compared to my current R53 or even my old 205 GTI, I'd even say my brothers basic ST150 is better. The later Astra chassis is decent but unfortunately they just lack character all together so would sooner have an old gsi myself yeah or even the sri turbo

I’ve always been a Ford guy but the truth is Vauxhalls are always better on power Corsa VxR more than Fiesta ST Astra VXr more than Focus ST Etc fords are great quality just never hit the power mark! Always 20-30bhp behind vxrs
