1.31.....Turners Arms ( Green Bricks ) and above that the Railway Tavern on Psalters Lane, Holmes, my parents had the Holmes Cafe opposite the Tavern...Happy days! Many thanks for the memories.
What a fantastic video. Some real history captured there. My dad lived in The Golden Cup for a while with his grandparents who ran it, whilst his father was fighting in WW2. Great photo of it on here and you can see you see the tiles below the window which he knocked off and saved just before they demolished it to make way for Centenary Way in the late 60s. Also nice to see Prince of Wales Feathers on Westgate as this has just reopened as the New York Tavern for those of us who enjoy real ale.
This is a fantastic piece of history. Thnkyou for posting it. In the last few years even more watering holes have dried up due to smoking legislation and the present economic climate. I hope some Pubs survive and we can keep a british tradition going. Huge fan of Judith Durham I like the the English Ale track, very folky, anyone want to tell who it is by? Thanks again for a great work of history, brilliant, I have only been here ten years, still finding my way around,
Great video, I have a lovely old water jug that looks like a pub bar jug, its got John Hucknall 136 Victoria rd and Parkgate but there is no name of a pub, just wondering if anyone has any info ?
i still thing the smoking ban killed off all the pubs. but when you can drink and smoke and home there is no point going to the pub anymore. its shame to
Smoking ban hasn't killed pubs, cheap beer in supermarkets as, fact 72%of adult population admit to drinking to some degree, only 15%,now smoke, nothing to do with smoking ban, blame supermarkets!
Of course its Mary Hopkin, I must have been enjoying the English Ale called "pickled ale", not mentioned by Harvey Andrews. Judith Durham would be more at home with a Barby Ale, I am still a huge fan, sure she would enjoy a pint of Land Lord if she ever comes back to England
By I've supped a few pints in many of those especially 'The Dog' on College Road and quite a few other places not shown. Happy days and you learned to drink, you got a fair amount of ridicule if you couldn't hold your ale.
