I got to know Buddy and he was always so kind to me. He even gave me a drum lesson and let me play on his Slingerland drums. To see pictures of me and Buddy, playing on his drums, here is the video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BTsnnA6nlvk.html I know he would be proud that I as a drummer wanted to have my own Big Band and play this great music. Thanks so much for your comment.
That makes me feel good that drummers like you have learned just from watching one of my video`s. Of course it`s always about the music first, but it`s good to pick up on new techniques. Thanks for your comment.
I love having my own Big Band. Sure it`s a lot of work ! Putting all the music together, getting the jobs, hiring the right musicians and all the other thing needed to have a great Big Band is what I`m all about. I love doing live concerts and playing with all of these excellent musicians. That makes me a better musician for sure. Thanks Timothy for your comment.
It’s amazing to see someone get better right before my eyes. I have loved watching you play for a long time now. You just keep getting better.anyone into the drums should really love and learn a lot from watching you play. Thanks for loving the drums this much. Bryan
The day I stop learning is the day I should give up the drums and being a musician. What I love the most is being a drummer Big Band leader and doing these concerts. Playing live for people is what I`m all about as a drummer and band leader. When it`s my turn to do a solo, I want it to be dynamic and exciting for the people who come out to see me and my band. Thanks so much for your comment.
All of these years of practicing and learning, plus doing these live concerts with my Big Band has made me a better musician. Thanks David for your comment.
I`m an old school drummer that loves being a Big Band leader and playing swinging charts. When it`s my turn to do a solo, I just use the drum technique I have learned to make it an exciting and dynamic solo for the people who come out to see me and my band. I always play better in front of a live audience. You get feed back from them right away. Thanks Frank for your comment.
I always play at my best when I get to do these concerts live with my Big Band. So great to get real time feedback from the people who let you know how you are doing in your performance. Thanks for your comment.
I enjoy so much doing these live concerts with my Big Band. So glad I get to post them on my channel so people can see and hear my drumming. Thanks Johan for your comment.
@@johannandelstadh3240 I`m just an old school drummer who has no plans to retire and keep on working hard to have a swinging Big Band. So good to know I have been an inspiration to you to keep on drumming. Thanks so much for your comment.
What I really wanted the most was to have my own Big Band and do concerts with great musicians. Buddy inspired me to do this and with hard work my dream has come true for me. Thanks for your comment.
Hey Ken! Wow another great performance! Damm! Your getting better as you get go!!!! Amazing!!!! Love the sound of the kit! So glad to see you out there performing at such a high level! It's guys like you who inspire me to keep playing! :) Thanks Ken!!! :) Your Friend, Barry Barry Bangemout®
I have seen your video`s in the past Barry and you are one excellent drummer. Great job on the cover tunes you do and of course I enjoyed the the Buddy Rich songs that you played. You have the same love of drumming as I do. But of course it`s always about the music first for me. That is why I put together my own Big Band playing with excellent musicians who believe in the same jazz music I want to do. Nothing like playing live in front of people who will give you real time feedback when I do these concerts. So glad I inspire you. That means a lot to me. Keep playing your drums Barry !
I`m just an old school drummer who loves to play on my classic Slingerland drums. Always so much fun doing these concerts with my Big Band. Thanks Johnny for your comment.
I also had a old time drum teacher way back in college who got me to learn from the Joe Morello Master Studies drum book for learning drum technique. Then the Roy Burns Book Big ,Bad, and Beautiful for learning how to sight read charts. Now I`m an old school drum teacher. Well all of these years of practice and learning has paid off for me. Thanks for your comment.
Wow! so nice to see this old school drumming style alive. I have seen alot of your videos especially the buddy rich ones and they have been very inspiring. Im an 18 year old high school drummer playing in jazz band and in combos. I was wondering if you have any advice for practicing or what you played and practiced to get better when you were younger, as well as what you had learned from buddy from seeing him live and having a lesson with him? Keep up the great videos!
So wonderful to hear from a young drummer who likes this style of playing. Means a lot to me that watching my video`s has been very inspiring. Of course I love to play the drums and having my own Big Band to play the music I want to do and performing live to the people is why I`m a musician. The best advise first is to get a good drum teacher. He was the one who had me practice out of the Joe Morello drum book "Master Studies" which has exercises for the development of control and technique. You must have good drum technique to do these type of old school drumming. When I had my drum lesson from Buddy Rich, I asked him how to get a better left hand, since mine was so weak. He saw the traditional grip I used and that my left hand grip was holding the stick way in the back of the stick. Right away Buddy told me my left hand grip is all wrong. It has to be near the middle of the stick to get a better balance of the stick. He showed me his left hand grip and played and said how much easier it is to do rolls and singles with a balanced grip. Of course he was right. Best lesson I ever had. You watch Buddy or me and see that left hand grip near the middle of the stick. Then watching Buddy play live so many times and how with his drumming he made the music sound so much better, is a huge lesson on what to play. It`s always about the music first. All my best to you Lennon with your drumming.
@@KenLoomer Thank you very much Ken! Just found the pdf version of master studies and am going to start working out of it. Can't wait to see more your videos in the future.
@@lennonkulackoski Also check out the great video`s of Joe Morello so you can see and hear him play what he wrote in that drum book. Like you Lennon, I`m still practicing all the time.
I got to know Buddy Rich and he made me cry after watching so many of his performance live. He was always so kind to me. I even got a drum lesson from him. I told Buddy one day that I wanted to have a Big Band like his because I love the music he played so much. He said" Ken don`t ever let anyone tell you can`t your own Big Band to play the music you love. Just work hard young man and do it". Well I did work hard and my dream of having my own Big Band has come true for me. To see pictures of me and Buddy and the picture when Buddy let me play his Slingerland drums, here is the link ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BTsnnA6nlvk.html Thanks for your comment.
"AI" drumsticks? I mean? Good god Doctor. I do believe if you were to transcribe this. It solidify the fact that you are the best drummer on the planet.. Truly unbelievable work. Grace at its finest. I do believe if you were to dissect this mathematically, you'd find the key to GOD. I think i'm on to something when I say I want young kids, the community and elders alike, To experience the grace of this truly american craft. You have elevated it to that of the heavens sir. I consider you a saint of god if not god himself hiding as a doctor. I'd like to spend the rest of my life promoting and producing you. It would be an honor. You are a true national treasure... That is, If you're not cheating.
Like I tell any drummer, if you put in the work, anything is possible. Everyone told me having my own Big Band would be impossible. I was willing to do the hard work and believed in myself that it could be done. You are looking at a video which showed I did do what I said, that a drummer could have his own Big Band. Of course first I had to work hard and practice all the time so I could be a good drummer and musician and play at the highest level possible. Most important is that I`m still learning all the time. When I do these live concerts, so wonderful to get feedback from the people in real time on how I`m doing as a drummer and band leader. Just tonight during my break at my job, a young man came up to me and said I inspired him so much to practice even more and that he learned so much from watching me play my drums. He wanted to take a picture of me and him together, which I gladly did. That made me feel great to have young people loving the music I play. Well thanks Paul so much for your comment.
@KenLoomer Yes Ken. Understand. I love the Quality sound, and Video work. It has captured your work nicely. But dream of more cameras, more angles live! I'd love to see a documentary..more in depth video of Your story. Your love of music, paired with hard work, allows you to improvise these unreal phrases, that pour out of your subconscious. I'd love to see someone score out your work. (This/These videos.) Beautiful, graceful, humbling, breathtaking...Inspiring. Deeply Meaningful in MANY different ways doctor.Quite an educational experience. I Want a documentary. P.B.S. Having said all that... Wow man, When you're on, It really is unbelievable. It is truly an honor to experience such grace. My dream is to promote it.
@@pauld3201 I understand where you are coming from. I could happen that someone will want me to do a TV show so I could explain my love of drumming and music. That way more young people will understand that with hard work, anything is possible. All my best to you Paul.
