Nice Montage. I grew up just loving these cabover tractors. Went to a truck show in Spokane Wa. 1978 when the CL9000 was introduced and got a couple of great pics with one in the front of the main building on display.
They were ahead of the times, when kw, freight liner and pete were leading the way with double bunk coe's. Ford's cl9000 came with factory 215" wb and most with 3406b cat. I was driving a '76 Brockway coe with 1693ta 425 cat and 1 of those CL9000's pulled up next to me and I had to look up about a FOOT to see the driver!!! Was an awsome sight! Thanks for posting!
Remember the 4 Bag Air Ride cab? Great idea but had too many bugs. Back in those days I had a COE KW and a good friend drove one of these. Wow, trucking has changed. So many trucks today and very few truck drivers.
That's because mostly all the Truck Driver,s that grew up in the 60,s and 70,s have given it up!! truck driving pretty much sucks nowadays? but the Tractor,s are still looking good there maybe a few good Professional Driver's left out there, but not many.
Plenty of steering wheel attendants around, losing the operators unfortunately!! When you're treading new ground l suppose there was bound to be some glitches!! Thanks for your comment!!
These were awesome looking trucks with that unique air ride cab that made the ride unbelievable for a Coe it was a sad day when Ford no longer made a class eight truck and took the market seriously!
O-H-I-O Porter greetings.🇺🇸 Such a nice selection of CL9000 rigs! I loved each one!🥰 Cabovers Rule! I saw some things that I hope to try on our Ford cabover. Good stuff! 🥰😎✌️
Nice! They had a conventional as well but I think the cabover was more popular back then. I think Fords last ditch effort in heavy duty was the Ford Aeromax. I personally thought they were ugly, but those trucks were everywhere....
Мне в детстве всегда хотелось такой , а теперь у меня КамаЗ , спасибо от Вашего видео слезы наворачиваются , привет из России , побольше видео и удачи на дорогах. Антон Нижний Новогород
@@cabovercrazy5818 A stretched European cabover would've been cool to try out in US.... FORD were early out with air-suspension on the cab, so it's sad they're gone.....
One of the Nicest Cabover Tractor,s ever built! Just My opion from driving them I liked everything about them, is good. I had the opportunity to drive one for a guy for a couple years, and the CL-9000 is one Monster of a Tractor! I know where there is about several that needs to be refurbished and gone over and you'll have a nice tractor.
I’m glad I ran across your video because I never really knew how good a Ford CL 9000 looked 0:52...that’s pretty, just as nice if not nicer than your petes, kw’s and freight shakers. Seriously man nice rigs.
I can't lay claim or credit to most of these trucks, they are pictures l love and think need to be shared so they don't get lost in time!! Glad you enjoy them and thanks for your comment and support!!
Driving in CA. in the 80s cabovers were about the only choice you had. I drove a CL-9000 for about 2 weeks, and I hated it. Top heavy with cab air ride that was slow to respond, and the shifter absolutely sucked. Not to mention the nosebleed from climbing into another stratosphere to enter the cab.
Ford had a good product but I guess it wasn't returning $B's of dollars annually so why keep it. I can give them one reason; customer trust that grows the brand.
@@cabovercrazy5818 The Mfr's. didn't deal w/ the designs shortcomings. Engine placement made it noisy, the suspension needed to be more sophisticated, bumps would throw a backup driver out of the sleeper going down the road. Roadside issues made it inconvenient if the weather was nasty. Otherwise the Cabover was a very fuel efficient design. The airflow through the radiator went straight to the back of the cab. It filled the high-pressure area between the cab & trailer thus improving mileage. I've always thought the Cabover was a very efficient design for fuel economy & a shorter WB for tight docks. My fav. is the '80's KW K100E 112"bbc Aerodyne Cab w/ the set-back axle option.
Ah yes , the old two-story cabin over " Better Ideas" ... It was dangerous trying to get in and out of em in the winter because the indent for the grab handles would freeze over when you drove in the sleet and snow.. saw SEVERAL drivers bust their as*es because of it.. 😅
