Historic hot rods, customs and speed parts are mixed in at the NSRA Street Rod Nationals and I love digging around to find all of the old school treasure. Take a look as I uncover some cool hot rods, as well as the cackle fest with four nitro burning drag cars from the '60s.

Thank you for another great video. This one was very special to me as I grew up with a father that was a true old school hot rodder. Being born and raised in Long Beach, California, my dad and I spent many a Saturday night a Lions Dragstrip. This video really hit home with Doug's Headers corvair funny car. Our family friend worked for Doug and took me on a tour of the shop, sometime in the 1960s. I sat in that funny car in Doug's shop as a kid. I was impressed then and I am now seeing the car run. If you are ever in Southern California, you must stop by the Lions Dragstrip Museum here in Long Beach. Keep up the great videos and refreshing many great memories.

Terrific job my friend, what a collection of class. The Doug’s headers car idling was moving the liquid in the bottle on the adjacent car, that’s crazy loud and powerful

I would love to see you build a museum with all of the vintage drag cars weather or not they look pretty with nice paint or if you left them in their as found condition with as much information as you can find. Either way I am glad you are preserving the drag racing history

For several years I have wondered how anyone could build a "cackle car"? The answer finally occurred to me: Build two. Cackle one and race the other one. Thank you for bringing these race cars to those of us not able (or not smart enough) to be there.

Pretty sure the gold 55' street freak, the restored drag rod, and the red hot rod, are from the Dead Man's Curve cc. Them boys can put a straight axle in damn near anything, in about a day. They have a Labor Day show in Jersey that's phenominal. They have some amazing cars in the club, and always have famous movie cars, vintage magazine show cars... hell, the Bob Hope golf cart was there a few years. The Red Baron model replica as well. A must attend for sure. 2000+ cars, and always getting bigger.

Happy to hit the "Subscribe" button. Much better than just showing everyone the eye candy there, sharing excellent technical information that is impossible to take in with just one viewing. But that's okay, it's what "replay" is all about!

Some really nice and cool things. And some nice Hot Rods and Gasser’s. That Corvair is really loud. Saw a deal where after a drag race. They would rebuild them before next race.

Love those "Radir" wheels .I've got an old 1960's Hot Rod magazine , and there's an advertisement in it for " Rader" wheels , with an " E" , Iv'e always wondered if they were the same manufacturer, and maybe changed the spelling?

Speaking of the stance, most everyone raised the car in the era you talk about. Lowering was done on the old Merc sleds and others, but performance minded usually raised it. Many had the back end up high (ridiculous for traction trying to copy some fast cars of the time with bodies purposely nosed down). Extended shackles for the low budget crowd. Most would get the front end up for "weight transfer". Lowering was done on street cars, if at all. I did have a guy that dated a girl in my neighborhood that owned a '59 Chevy, red, lettered the Devil's Den. It was lowered, custom hubcaps, dual read deck antennae, dingleballs, dice, white interior, lake pipes. Never knew what happened to it. It was the custom of our area and to me it became an eye sore. I forget all the details. It was all custom, no go type of modifications.

I helped out with the Doorman Koopman car down at Rich's Radir Wheels farm quite some years ago, they were fighting a bellhousing/starter issue. Glad to see it all together and shiny, even if almost none of it is the original car anymore.

Really dig the y-block intake with the carter side drafts. Very similar to a poly 318 that grandpa gave me with twin carter side drafts. He’d bought it just for the finned valve covers at an auction. Sadly, while he ran home to get the truck and trailer the valve covers were stolen off the engine. Still a cool marine engine, although I haven’t found any info on the setup. Haven’t been able to figure out any specifics on the valve train, the valve springs look to be chrome plated. Only time I’ve seen valve springs with any plating were on display or show engines and have no clue what on earth the intentions were for someone using them. Grandpa said the engine was removed from a Chriscraft boat that sold later on in the auction which was setup with a v-drive, he suspected it had been the guys race boat. Awesome footage from the show, great gathering of funny cars and nitro stuff.

Great video!! I love those old hot rods. Makes me want to go and find my first girlfriend's father who used to build drag race cars. I am in the process of starting a Welding/fabrication/foundry/machine shop that specializes in pre WW2 English race cars. My first project that I am starting my YT channel with is a 1928 Morgan RIP MG Special with 4 wheels. I have to clear out two projects first because I am trading one for a 1983 Harley Iron Head. My next project after the Morgan is an MG Magnette boat tail racer with dual wheels in the rear. I will let you know because I think they will look good enough for pictures. The Morgan is going to have an experimental aircraft engine opposed twin as the power plant in the front that will be turbo charged. I will be making any and all parts for anything that I build or that others bring in .
