Hearing “Simple” and “avoiding a complicated story” in relation to Kingdom Hearts actually made me laugh aloud. On the contrary Nomura-san, I think you created one of the most convoluted plots in all of history. Haha

I'm kinda leaning towards the story is just bad at this point. I've been into KH ever since it's first release but as the story went on and the more research I did on Nomura I'm kinda just waiting for an ending tbh. He admitted to making it open to interpretation and from that stems a lot of weird writing flaws. Couple example of why I'm done from interviews: "Tifa could be seen as Clouds imagination because only Sora, Donald, and Goofy talk to her". Xigbars character was originally never given this much depth and was inspired from the VAs performance. Before that change Xigbar was just some guy as No.2 with no real weight to the story until they retconned that in Final Mix. Then realizing that like 90% of every game has nothing to do with the main story and the 10% is convultated and not well explained because of him trying to be arbitrary enough so we can make up our own head canon.

Nomura talking about the story not being the worlds history. When he says this, it feels like it's been treated like real life fairy tales. As time goes on and the story is passed down, it ends up getting changed over time. People start forgetting how things really go in a story and it ends up getting tweaked. Fact and fiction, the stories reality and the altered added things overlap and the line between the two get blurred until you get a new version of events, and what really happens ends up forgotten.

Me too! I only got to know Cloud through Smash, then I watched KH3 then 1 and 2 and BBS and DDD and Cloud, YUffie Aerith Leon Sepiroth and Tifia in KH 1 and KH2 got me interested especially 2!

I’m so glad the series never went the “simple” route. I genuinely believe I wouldn’t be into this series at all if they didn’t have the complicated and in-depth storytelling it has today.

The story is not really that complicated that it really can carry story by itself. Better straightforward story with some actual content than bloated story without substance.

Towards the end, this video pretty much confirms what I've been telling people from the beginning. Nomura had the whole story (at least major or points) planned out from the get go. My wife is working on a book series herself. She planned every major plot point for the entire 7 books. Then, as she works on each individual book, the smaller details get fleshed out. Some things change as the story is being developed. It seems the Same thing goes for Nomura. All major plot points planned out from X to KH3. Smaller details fleshed out as each game is developed. Some things change as events are being played out. I'll prolly get yelled at for say I g this, but whatever. Nomura clearly has not been "making this up as he goes along." Some parts, yes. But, the overarching theme and plot points were planned from the get go.

Yep like the hows and timetravel clearly wher Not planed day one however he got thes ideas in 2005. Tätig you knew he wantet to do X befor ddd? He also wantet dark road befor ddd i belive to have time to flesh out the timetravel aspect. He would have also i tidruced willfull darknesses MoM etc earlier meaning he had the lost Master arc in early stages of devolepment dince around 2005 to 2007

Ansem's plan to find the Keyblade (preferably the Kingdom Key): 1. Grab Princess of Heart, whom he and Maleficent want to exploit for their other plan 2. Toss her into the Lanes Between. He doesn't know what world it's on, so he's just going to jettison her out into space in a random direction. 3. Hope for the best.

what I got out of it: - aqua's spell was redundant - so kairi's grandmother's story was never meant to be taken literally verbatim. so that's why x-->ux has been notably different from it. I can accept it now without breaking my brain trying to rationalize it all. - ah, but will KH outgrow the disney movies? should we be pleasantly surprised about that too?

You know it’s an amazing, informative video when you can watch it years later and years after you first played the game and learn something new. I was randomly thinking about replaying Kindom Hearts 1 (my first play through was about 8 years ago and I played the remastered version about 2-3 years ago) and this video definitely helped with the nostalgia and motivation to play again.

Oh my gosh, I totally forgot about KH Ultimania. This was a website long ago with every Kingdom hearts secret, rumor, and the newest news from Japan. I remember seeing the first screenshots of Roxas and KH2 there and being SO EXCITED! Then there was the concept art for Twilight Town that was beautiful, and then the trailer was leaked there first too! That website rocked.

Its Hironobu Sakaguchi who said that to Nomura. Not Sakamoto. I think thats a mistranslation. Sakaguchi is the Father of Final Fantasy.

I remember when I got KH1 when it came out, I felt like the FF characters were a really cool inclusion or bonus, but I always considered it a Disney game first. I didn't even notice there weren't any FF people in KH3 until it was pointed out to me.

My thoughts on the Final Fantasy target base. I think it was smart and does show good marketing tactics. It was a new game, new story, etc. With KH really being a story mode rpg, it needed something to attract the largest or widest group of people. Introduce them to new concepts, and then evolve them to their stand alone characters.

I would love to see Maleficent becoming the final main antagonist of the series! For now it is safe to assume that she will play a major role again in Kingdom hearts 4, serving as the main villain of half of the game, as she did in Kingdom hearts I, before the centre of attention moves to the Master of Masters and the rest of the original characters.

He had ideas but like any writer he didnt plan every si gle moment or even how to get ther. Timetravel was i todruced in kh 2 becaus after kh 1 is when he got ideas for thes other plotpoints. He just neded diferent forms of timetravel and becaus connection is a big overarching theme he found ways to connect it all to the start

I think what Nomura meant by it overlaps but it's not the world's history is that the Worlds have the shared history of being separated but everything after that is the history of that specific world

They did explain Kairi’s arrival in BBS, Aqua put a spell over Kairi to protect her if she was in trouble. It basically said if your in trouble the light of your heart will guide you to the light of another, meaning Sora. So when Radiant Garden fell to darkness and became Hollow Bastion, that spell must’ve sent her on destiny islands

How can people say that FF characters can stay out of KH when the first characters Sora interact with even before Donald and Goofy was with FF characters. Like how can you forget how trivial to the story Squall/ Leon was. He was the one that explained what was happening and Aerith. How can people say they don't care about them?

That’s like saying the old man from Zelda is ESSENTIAL to the story of The Legend of Zelda because he’s the first guy you ever met. The FF characters aren’t essential to the overall series. It would be nice if they showed up again in future games tho.

ProdigyxCD I don’t mean we play it exclusively for seeing FF “characters” but we do enjoy the various FF aspects that’s seeped into the gameplay and original stories. Especially in the early days before FF had more action oriented games like 15 and 7Remake, it was like getting the turn based combat in a action rpg. But of course seeing the characters isn’t a bad thing either. Just looking at how many where really disappointed we didn’t get to at least get to “see” the Restoration Committee members when KH3 came out. Or getting one last Sephiroth match.

Unless Nomura, and/or Disney, was willing to delve deeper into these characters, probably would still be a fun romp, but a little basic, storywise. Disney characters thrive off of being simple in goals, and in execution.

Kingdom hearts is just Disney final fantasy. It’s still a jrpg and it’s a child of SE. at this point kingdom hearts can do whatever it wants and it will still some shape or form have ties and bonds to final fantasy that gives kingdom hearts its edge in the first place. Most and if not all of it is final fantasy with Disney npc’s. That being said the future rests on Verum Rex, into the 5th dimension of nomura.

You could say that, but there is more to it I believe Kairis character in some way is linked to what ever experimental events happened in radiant garden. There is more to her being at Destiny Islands than just Aqua.

People ask FF chars from this franchise because due plot, which focuses on non-essential plot-points rather than proper characterization, makes OCs feel just bland characters who cannot carry the franchise alone. Heck, if series had more genuine character moments and better dialoque, people wouldn't even care if the plot was holed like a swiss cheese. Series focuses too much on some tropes like time-travel and parallel universes which by themselves are so used tropes already that they by themselves aren't that interesting.
