[OLD] South Park: The Fractured But Whole Review (PS4) 

"Car!" Is my favorite thing in this game.

Can we also just take a step back and appreciate how great the music was in this game? The raisins girls fight music, strip club fight music, and poop mini game are all butter to the ears.

The Fractured but Whole is better as a game The Stick of Truth is a better South Park experience.

Now if only we had sequels like this for other franchises and not have to rely on lazy rehashes.

I will always respect South Park for its writing, and willingness to take shots at ANY topic, not fearing the social backlash, but it does go into territory that I find just a bit too much to regularly enjoy. I will cheer it on from the sidelines all day though.

Stick of Truth was a lot more zanier and nonsensical, but I love both games and consider them separate entities. I do like how big the roster is in Fractured But Whole and that your clothes don't determine buffs and such so you can go wild with how you look without affecting your strength/defense etc. I'm looking forward to the DLC.

I prefer the story of SoT more, just becuase it is SO much more absurd and over the top, that I love from South park. FbW by comparison is rather tame and kinda straight-forward. There's no real building 'wtf' like SoT it just kept making things more insane each day. There is those wtf over the top moments in FbW, but that's all they are 'moments' really. It doesn't help that the main villian of the game is, imo the absolute worst character, that doesn't really work at all and raises several plot holes if you think too hard. Which to me, isn't something South Park is known for, they tend to cover their bases really well most the time. That said, everything beyond story? FbW is definitely the better game. It improves on everything from the first game and expands it wonderfully. Summons are better done, since now you not only can use them in boss fights, but more then once per day, making them more useful overall, since you can save them for the tougher battles and not worry if you already used one. I will say that the last Summon you get is kinda lame, imo. The craftign system works wonderfully, costumes don't do anything this time around but that just means you can mix and match without worry, while all the important stuff gets moved to artifacts. The battles are more creative and fluid now that there is a more tactical element to them, plus having more then one ally helps make them feel more varied and choatic... Though Unlike Caddy I generally found SoT to have some tougher battles, the only battle I really had any trouble with in FbW is the Eldritch Horror one because that requires certain characters, that you don't know going in, and there is an element of luck going on there as well. Even the secret boss is easier comparatively. That said, I like that boss fights aren't all simply 'beat the bad guys' and there is much more creativity in having to acheive objects to win or progress in a fight, or just simply run away.

Amazing! I'm not all that into the South Park franchise, I was for some reason as a kid, but the fact the series 'as got this far is just wow, mates! I'm just positively blown away from all of this you've done as one gargantuan community. The joke you say is obvious is actually the original title. Parker and Stone were forced to change it so the game would be published. "Fractured Butthole" was not okay. "Fractured But Whole", perfectly fine. Yay, homonymous word play!

Yesss I finished this awhile ago and I immediately thought it was way deeper and more fun than the first! It was so fun and it felt way longer and sharp. I really loved the characters and their superhero personas it was charming ...

Plus Tweek and Craig's Ultimate Attack is... _so_ good.... both in animation and effect on enemies.

I agree that the combat is better but the setpieces in the first one make for a overall more memorable game in my opinion.

I think this story mimics how cartman will always be the main villain when they are playing super heros. Except when Zuckerberg was around that one time.

There is the occasional hiccup with the audio at least on PC. my computer is pretty decent but the games audio would just stop randomly ruining my recording

Have you been playing the South Park app? If so, what are your thoughts on it? I personally have gotten addicted to it, and I like that they explore other themes aside from medieval and super heroes.

Great review Caddy! I can't say I'd agree with everything you brought up. I think it takes a couple of steps forward sure, but just as many back. The combat was super buggy for me on several occasions, and I really didn't like the crafting; it led to most of the cool environmental puzzles have really lame 'junk' rewards. instead of interesting weapons and costumes like in SoT. Yes, you can still find costumes, but honestly, I think the game would have benefitted from being a few hours shorter, with way less open world busywork. Stick of Truth just felt like a way more contained experience to me, and much more memorable.

I'm excited to play this one myself.

Pretty much. I also thought this had better gameplay than Stick of Truth, but I didn't find the writing to be as memorable. Fractured definitely has its moments; overall though it felt like they were playing it safer after the first game got censored in multiple regions. I also found the super-sudden ending to be unsatisfying. Otherwise, I love the combat and the ridiculous amount of character customization. Both are huge improvements from SoT, and that was no slouch in either category.

Personally, SoT is an easy 9/10, FBW is a 7.5/10. Still liked it, still good, but never really reached the bar the first game set.

If you like the tile based gameplay let me recommend Radiant Historia for the DS. It's fantastic

As far as the show references go, I played this game and the stick of truth before ever actively watching a season of South Park and still found myself laughing so I think the fact that it’s funny regardless is a bonus

The music in this game is actually really fucking great. From the Raisins battle theme, Crab People battle theme, to even Morgan Freeman's Taco shop theme, really great music!

There was just something about stick of truth that bothered me that got fixed with fractured but whole other than the random difficulty Spike with fights like mutated Kyle's cousin

I still need to play both games. Caddy's has 558k might now, his slaughter and salvage abilities are very powerful.

Plantmancer was OP as shit on my first playthrough. AoE bleeds on all your enemies + your ultimate is a full heal and resurrection for any fallen teammates.

Atleast in the english version the title is looking like a bad word but the french version is straight up called "the an*l of destiny"

funniest is if change skin colour during game play it actually create something funny at the ending. but the only problem i have the with the game is that the game felt 2 short and the later half stuff felt rushed

I loved the first game and I wish I could afford this one because I know I will love it just as much.

The pc version of this game is so fucked up and even unplayable for some users. I got half way through the game and got the escape shady acres glitch so now I'm stuck for three weeks waiting for a patch that might never come. This is the first ubisoft game I ever bought and will not be buying another one.

Agree hate that the text isn't bigger. I sit on the couch as well and dislike when you're unable to make the text bigger.

Mmm I think stick of truth was better. I felt like the first half of the game was just all walking back n forth. It picked up in the second half were as the first one was just none stop

I liked the Dungeons & Dragons theme of the last game, I hope one of the DLCs they are planning will have us go back to the Kingdom of Zaron, with this new battle system. Or they have an aliens themed mission... You know what? Anything with a theme from Phone Destroyer would also be awesome, to see! (Alien Clyde and Imp Tweek, are like the cutest thing I ever seen from South Park, other than the Kindergarten versions of Tweek and Craig. Ooh, maybe a DLC mission where the kids are turned into kindergarteners and you have to cure them before they can go back home or something! I just want to cuddle all of these cuties regardless and the more time I spend with them, the happier I am about their existence.)

I enjoy this game because I love the show, but the game is still way to easy and simple. I played on the hardest difficulty and got the token acheivment, its still super easy. The only hard fight is morgan freeman which is optional.

I think it's a little too easy and I got a platinum. Hardest thing was Morgan Freeman on mastermind. But that was extremely hard compared to the rest of this game. It was funny but wish there was more enemy variety and a little harder.

There should be more hero games like this one.
