Great video and for those of us who know how to do things by hand, it is a great demonstration of restoring something from the past before computer and vinyl.

Beautiful work. Definitely not a job to be rushed. 'My' railway has lots of LMS vehicles. We usually apply tiny dots of pink to the edge of the white bands and white dots to the edge of the pink to give a fading effect. Not sure if that was true LMS practice or just us(!)

Right now in South Africa there is no specialist store (countrywide) anymore that keeps Signwriters brushes or gear. If we want it we have to import ourselves, It's a sad old digital frenzy.

Beautifully and expertly painted but I can't believe that you marked it out by hand instead of using the LMS artwork. They would have used gilt transfers most of the time and only painted by hand when stocks were low.

I've long wanted to learn how to do old fashioned sign writing and I looked up your site to see if you do any classes... but you're in Antrim and I'm in London! Can you give me any kind of idea of good courses I should look out for over here - not having done signwriting before I'm wondering the best place to start. Thanks very much

Do you ever paint signs on Glass ? If so, what kind of paint do you use ?

Is that Gloss paint? Do you have to let it dry between coats?

I can say the same about the majority of the current graphic design industry.

Admirable workmanship but the block shadow is wrong - it should go from the back of the letter. maybe you were copying what was already there though, so it isn't your fault.
