good accordion players are very rare. you are terriffic. very talented. i enjoyed listening . wish i could give you more than 5stars. god bless, margie
I grew up listening to this waltz in Beirut ,Lebanon, & before that in Haifa ,Palestine. When my family gets together once every few years we erupt singing the words & I play the accordion, not nearly as pretty as this wonderful rendition. Thanks for the posting.
Thank you so much Fran. Research on internet informs me that the song was recorded by Perry Como in the '40's. In my case it reminds me of absent friends so it is particularly close to me. Warm regards from cold Ireland. Terry.
Oh Terry, I see that you are really back!!!!! We did miss you a lot but it was worth waiting for your return because now we can get to see you and listen to you more often! This is a great song and a great performance! Take care, dear friend and have a good Sunday! Angela
How many times have we waltzed to this sweet tune!! Happy New Year Terry and thank you for entertaining us during the year.....good health to you & yours. Wanda
Thank you very much. Great to have you back Margriet. Looking forward to more of your music and news. Health and happiness in 2010! Warm greetings from a cold Ireland! Terry.
Many thanks Neil. It's not an Irish tune but it has been very popular in Ireland for many years - especially for people who like a good old-time waltz!. Terry.
How did I miss seeing this one Terry? This is a beautiful melody and you play it so well. The words are so beautiful. Thank you for this fine performance. Fran
Hola Marieli, Gracias. Eres siempre muy simpatica. Sí, es una canción que me gusta mucho puesto que trae recuerdos de unas amigas tan queridas. Saludos desde un país muy frío! Terry.
Dear Terry ...the warm and cozy room sets the stage for your wonderful sentimental accordion music. Thanks for sharing the beauty of it all. With love from Canada, Evy
Very many thanks Brin. Ah alas the fingers are not as nimble now as before!! Glad you liked it anyway. I fully enjoy everything you do so keep up the good work. Happy New Year. Terry.
Mike, many thanks. You're a real tonic. It's great to get support in this learning process. Sometimes you begin to wonder if it's one step forward - two steps back!!! LOL Happy New Year to you and yours. Terry.
Terry, I think you are a good accordion player even if you had not have formal training. There are many in YT that put up wonderful videos even though they are learner, like ourselves. You have done such great jobs before and I hope you can continue to play and post.
I am particularly glad that you like this little melody Ron. It's special to me in that it reminds me of absent - though never forgotten - friends. I only hope I do it justice. May your year be full of everything you desire and deserve. Terry
Thanks Helen. Glad you enjoyed this tune. The ukulele musician in our group was a visitor from Belfast called Kieran. He also plays mandolin and violin. Very talented lad. Visiting musicians often drop into a session and are very welcome. That's one of the reasons I enjoy music sessions.Best of luck with your playing. terry
@niciFI Well Nicole I know it's not your kind of music but I am very happy that you liked it. This song is very special for me because when I play it I remember a lovely girl who died too young. Now I want to go to Switzerland and play accordion with the great musicians in the Alps!!!! Hope we see you soon in Ireland. x
Many thanks Kyrah. Great old song. I see from internet that this song was recorded in the 40's by Perry Como. Perhaps you would upload a video of "Tulips from Amsterdam" sometime - one of my favourite songs. Happy New Year, Terry.
You are always so positive Jim. Thank you. We are having cold snowy weather here so it's a good time to get in some accordion practice.! Happy 2010. Terry.
Thanks Gary. It's been an amazing day for me also - hearing from your Mum and from Lyla's daughter, Samantha. What a pleasure! I can't emphasise enough how wonderful the Connolly family were and how kind they were to me as a teenager. My great love for music also was enhanced by Iris and Lyla. I have much to be grateful for.
Many thanks Brian. I know it's a very old tune but it's a joy to play. Still experimenting with various couplers to find suitable tones for different tunes. Let's hope for a great (musical) 2010! Best regards, Terry.
Hi Terry. My precious Mother was Lyla Connolly of Roscommon and seeing you dedicate this song to her was a wonderful surprise on the 7th year anniversary of her passing. Thank you.
Terry, The internet can do great things indeed when used like this. Iris is my Mum and (obviously) Lyla my Aunt. We are all so very proud of both of them. You have created quite a stir among the Connollys today, in a good way. Thank you for that.
Thank you very much Margie. I appreciate the compliment. However I do not consider myself either terrific or talented - only as someone who enjoys playing even at my basic level. And if it gives pleasure to other people then that is a great bonus for me. Happy New Year - with lots of good music! Terry.
@adysim2 Thank you very much for your kind, if undeserved, compliment. I don't know about the 'skill' but I do enjoy playing this lovely old waltz. It holds dear memories for me. Greetings from Ireland. Terry.
That was beautiful, Terry! You know, I was sitting here watching your fingers go over all those buttons(!!!)... I don't know how you do it! lol! Happy New Year! May 2010 have many blessings for you.
Hi Angela! You can blame the Christmas vacations for my videos being uploaded!! Once back to work I may not have much spare time. But thank you so much for your interest and your kindness. I hope 2010 will be a really great year for you. Warm greetings, Terry.
@terrygrif Cette valse s'appelle "étoile des neiges" Chanson écrite par Loulou Gastié, interprétée par Line Renaud et reprise par Simon et les Modanais en 1987. Bonne soirée André
@FunStuffAus Thank you for your kind comment. It's great to meet music-loving friends around the world. It's wonderful to have the family enjoy music together. Greetings from the Emerald Isle! Terry
@clarebannerman Many thanks Mike. I haven't put any vids in past year. I began to realise that I really wasn't at the level of most musicians. Now I am more involved in Irish trad sessions around Sligo .... and the odd time in Clare!!! Am enjoying it immensely. Terry
@terrygrif In France it is known as "Étoile des Neiges". :o) But, the original is called "Fliege mit mir in die Heimat". It was composed by Austrian Franz Winkler.
@Therehasbeenan I'm not sure of the origins of this song. I am told by my French friends that it is well known in France. Of course it was a popular song in the 1940's recorded by Perry Como. So take your pick! Many thanks. Terry.
So many kind comments. Thank you Felix, Doojeen, Mike and Victor. I appreciate them all even though I don't get round to acknowledging them as soon as I should.
@FromHolbergsTime I seem to have missed your earlier comment Glenn. Sorry about that. I appreciate your kind (if undeserved) comments very much. Greetings from Ireland. Terry.
Dear Samantha, What a wonderful surprise! You have made my year! Isn't the internet (with all its problems) a wonderful thing. Lyla is seldom far from my mind even after all those years. She was a wonderful girl - charming, gracious and beautiful (but you know all that already!). Please email me at : terrygriffin@eircom.net so that we can talk further. If you are on FB you will find me there Just check for Terry Griffin, Sligo, Ireland. We can private message there also. Thank you so much.
