Just timeless. Some tinted windows little lower and blacked out trim and looks just as good today as any car. Will last forever with the endlessly tunable diesel turbo. The bmw ain’t no slouch in the looks department either
I like people nowdays still looking for top performance cars, when we are pushed to 20mph and 50 on motorways lol. I am glad I lived in times, when we could enjoy the real cars made from proper materials to the fullest. When they had pure beauty, power, spirit.
Mercedes is so gangster, Yakuza rated while bmw with Alpina is very cheerful for the young executive who got bored being chauffeured with their Mercedes saloon
6:20 two handfuls of people has been in a position like this. It’s got to be the life. Slinging two cars like this around, and not having to worry think about anything besides not wrecking them. If they break, that’s different. Don’t worry about that, they are new high end tuned cars. To top it off, two beautiful cars at that.
Wouldn't have said no to either that AMG or the Alpina back in the day. Bet they are still worth a bit if you can find a decent one today. Rust was the real killer of those BMWs in the UK climate. The older Mercs (pre Chrysler merge) were built like tanks and lasted almost forever.
Blue Garage in Wokingham had 3 or 4 of those Judge Dredd taxi's for sale shortly after the movie was released. Wanted 10 grand each from what I remember.
The way Clarkson flicks that key out like it's supposed to be a flip knife, they wouldn't get away with that on TV now I bet lol. Clarkson: "opening the bonnet on this is like undressing Lord Hanson, and finding he has pierced nipples" LOL. Only Clarkson could say it that way that it was hilariously funny.
As soon as he knew it would get clicks, views and comments. JCs presentations are awfully contrived, his MO is to skirt the line of what's acceptable/politically correct whilst playing a complete idiot that knows a thing or two about cars.
@@gottliebdee263No they're just completely new here, lots of technology is fascinating when new. There weren't clicks, likes, and comments back then lol. It was likely once they came into vogue as manual transmission alternatives but the transmissions themselves were pretty slow to actually change gear. You can see that in reviews with those transmissions, in a manual you can change gear whenever you want, some of those cars wouldn't actually do it until the computer knew the engine was at the ideal speed to be as mechanically sympathetic as possible. Its the idea that it's supposed to enhance the driving experience but until recent years, maybe 2014+ for some supercars, and more like 2020+ for more standard cars, it was not an enhancement over a manual, it felt limiting because it couldn't change gear as fast as you'd like it to. He may not know a ton about the technical side of cars but he can drive very well and has a unique but understandable way of looking at car design and purpose. Say what you will but he, hammond and may influenced many many car reviewers and manufacturers sometimes changed their own thinking based on what they thought of it. I'm not saying he's the greatest guy ever but that show birthed a LOT of modern car culture
AMG started off by designing and testing racing engines. It expanded its business into building custom road cars based upon standard Mercedes cars. AMG initially produced a range of unofficial upgrade and accessories packages mainly for the Mercedes-Benz R107 and C107 (1971-1989 SL roadster),[8] Mercedes-Benz W116 (1972-1980 S-class), Mercedes-Benz W123 (1976-1985 E-class predecessor), Mercedes-Benz W124 (1984-1997 E-class), Mercedes-Benz W126 (1979-1992 S-class), Mercedes-Benz R129 (1989-2001 SL roadster), and Mercedes-Benz W201 (1990-1993 C-class) models. The W123 is what we now call the E-Class.
Like mentioned above AMG had been around for a while before the w210/1995 - that’s probably around the time when Mercedes bought AMG & absorbed it (too lazy to check). There were some pretty iconic AMGs before then, check out the Mercedes AMG “Hammer” from the 80s
Absolutely! Although I've been a car enthusiast since I was 5, I can't say I have any interest in EVs, it's like trying to get excited about a new washing machine!
When Top Gear was a proper motoring series which focused on cars and not the presenters with their pre-scripted, fake "let's see how politically incorrect and controversial we can be" crap and doing stupid things to cars, all for the sake of viewers and ratings. Now we have youtube channels galore doing the same by giving the likes of Mike Brewer, Clarkson, Hammond and May and Edd (what's with the two DDs in his name?) China all the attention where yet again the focus isnt on the cars but on them. And this Jason Plato dude with his "Idol Chat" - Idol? why are these motoring presenters regarded as idols for?. Did anyone think Quentin Willson, Steve, Berry, Michelle Newman, Chris Goffey, William Woolard etc were IDOLs? no. Just get on with talking about the cars and stop worshipping these people for godsake lol.
