This place is great. I traveled from Las Vegas to El Segundo to see the silent movie "Wings" a little while ago and had a great time. The price is very reasonable and the theatre is classical. My first experience was back in the mid 70s' when I lived in So Cal. I am happy the OTMH is still up and running and I hope it is doing so for generations to come. I am going to look for more videos of this place. Thank you Old Town Music Hall for some great times.
I remember seeing the original Phantom of the Opera here in October back in the 80's, and even as a child, I knew this place was special. The organ music is amazing, as is the building itself.
Love this place! A great day trip if you live in So Cal. The beach is just over the hill and there is a great deli nearby, as well as an amazing tiki bar accross the street. The neighborhood is charming and it is truly mesmerizing to witness this soon to be extinct art form. Enjoy it while you can, they deserve your money a lot more than the local cineplex. p.s. Get there early to purchase homemade maccaroons. The best!
If you haven't, you should make the time to go and enjoy a trip into the past. Expect to experience what the audience would have seen in the decades ago. Just attended for the first time tonight (03/12/2011) and was amazed how Bill Fields was able to play for over two hours straight with no sheet music and perfectly accompanied the 1923 silent film The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Really enjoyable and a must for your bucket list. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
