Last week I ordered the spare prop, floating prop nuts, pdl insert, pld track mount, pdl alignment spacers, 2 inch seat risers and the rudder bolt. Very fast shipping, except for the seat risers got forgotten. I called Nick and left a message, he called me back within 10 minutes, was immediately taking care of the issue and apologized. Great people and great products/business. Highly recommend thier products to everyone I know.

I've had my 120 PDL out about a dozen times and never really thought the turning was an issue until the other day when I was out on a local river after some heavy rains. It wasn't 'white water', but the current was flowing, and the river was narrow in a few spots. I would get drifting, and sometimes end up sideways and it was more difficult to straighten out and get myself pointed into the current again. This was a bit hairy as I was worried about getting the poles in my crate hung up on some overhanging tree branches. I'm definitely going to order the metal rudder, though I may have to wait for the end of season / Black Friday deals... Keep up the good work!

I ordered one this weekend with a few other of your products. I have a sportsman pdl 120 and have been fishing docks in the ICW lately, when the current is strong the plastic rudder just can't keep me in position. I can't wait to switch it out for the aluminum one. Thanks for everything you do!

I have your rudder and bolt and I had a different problem where it lifted in the water. Idk if it was momentum or what. What happens is it naturally raised up a few inches. Instead of being a 90 degree angle its 220 degree. How I fixed it was I drilled a tiny hole into the end of my handle, and then removed one of the rudder mount controls bolts and placed an I bolt in it. Then I ran a small ball bungie from the handle to the bolt that i replaced holding down the rudder mount controls. I loop the lil bungie around after I set the rudder down and its a night and day difference! I use my kayak to lobster off the coast of Maine and have to pass thru a pretty hellish jetty to and from. No issues since I started holding it with the bungie.

You should be able to stop the lifting issue by properly adjusting the deployment ropes.

We’ve had problems with some of them lifting in the pass. Let me look into what we did to stop it.

Does the metal rudder have a greater surface area than the stock plastic one? Wondering if it'll help turning at slow speeds and turning right after being completely motionless (no current either)

The surface area is just about identical. Larger surface area caused issues steering while going in reverse.

I'm just curious as I have a Oldtown Autopilot. The OEM rudder is great but I was wondering if that rudder is longer than the OEM? Mine is just under 21" front to back.

This is really only for the PDL kayaks. The AP rudder is much stronger then the PDL version.

Hey Nick , I have a big water 132 if I get this aluminum rudder from you can I install a bixpy motor and cut it to template or do you have one that is compatible? Thanks Nick

That’s a negative. The pulley on the inside of the kayak isn’t designed to lift the Bixpy.

Hey Nick, any chance you will have this in stock anytime soon? I’ve got the bolt and steering knob from you. But I desperately need this rudder for my BW132 pdl bro. I’d order rn if I could. It’s a major pia as I do mostly sw with heavy currents. Oem rudder flexes, goes up, have to constantly push the rudder lever down too.

There is a dead zone when you are in the current where u just can't turn out of it sometimes. A bigger or stiffer rudder would be good but it can be dangerous too because you might overcorrect and flip especially when the current is ripping.

The wider rudder adds more pressure to the steering assembly and causes issues in reverse. We tested it.

I disagree I hit some major currents and while I do have to be super responsive with my steering. I can control my kayak better with it. I haul lobster pots with it off the coast of Maine and I have a pretty wild jetty I have to get past each way.

@@brandondulle When u are behind a bridge piling there is little to no current in the eddy. When u come out of the eddy the current hits u full force. If you aren't careful your rudder can overcorrect you too fast and you can flip. I was saying it can be even worse with a stiff metal rudder that has no give to it.

@@miamiwax5504 I go thru current trust me. Massive waves smashing me from behind while I try to travel home. I prefer a metal rudder. Makes me feel in control better.
