Hey bro, beautiful vessel. I love my 120 pdl. Was going to get the sportsman, but I love having the PDL Drive. Knowing I could have that amazing kayak after a year of research, and saving, and it'll be my 1st and last kayak. I see no reason to upgrade. With the 120, you have storage, a well designed deck and hull. I added my Bixby j2 to my rudder, and purchased a 2nd bixpy battery. So now I have 3 ways to get home, paddle, pdl, and motor. I run all my electric off of my DIY 30 Cal ammo box from harbor freight, with a Cabela's 12V battery, USB/VM/And 12V plug for additional charg and run options. The spare bixpy battery is buckled behind my seat, another DIY Mod i found on you- tube. I fish large lakes and resevoirs, miles long and wide. Also tournaments. I can cover a whole lake, and cruise back to the ramp at approx 5 mph. Odd town I think is just in a different league, because it feels more like a one man boat. And me at 5ft 7 149 lbs, I can walk bow to stern and cast, site fish, get into any of my storage, or change my wires to a spare battery. And I have had the wind kick up in the middle of a lake with 2 ti 3ft rollers, and have always felt safe. And I'm fresh off the bank. This summer was my 1st season. Good luck bro.👍 🙏 🎣
Glad to see you on the Top Water. That's what I have and I have not been off shore with it yet. Still getting used to kayaking on my first yak. Thanks for the great review.
With all your and my time on the water, I’m surprised we have never crossed paths. Let’s get out fishing sometime soon! Maybe a crab mission next month?
Good video! I just had my Old Town 106 Minn Kota out in 5-7 ft. Swells in Oregon for ling cod. We launched out of Sunset Bay, and I fished for 9 hours on a 100ah lithium. Not everyone will fish rough conditions for sure. Limits every trip in Oregon!
The trick I used when 'learning' to eat balut was in outdoor low light condition where I couldn't see very well lol. I think it's better eating it warm, with a bit of salt & black pepper along with some fresh vietnamese coriander leaves.
Great review brother. Those swells were pretty big, I could see the other 2 yaks behind you get pushed around pretty good, yours looked pretty stable. I would probably be nauseated. Love that yak and the stability of it. Left a 👍. Adrian
That topwater is pretty buoyant and I know it's top heavy but it sure seemed to be much flatter riding those waves. Never know, the more you fish with the topwater, you may prefer it over your usual kayak rig. BTW, I would not have eaten any of that cooked baby bird in a shell, haha. Enjoyed a full-watch, Moo. Have a fine week. 👍
Top two things I look for in a kayak are efficiency and portability. Topwater lacks in both department. Eventhough my Hobie Revo is much narrower and rocky, I feel like I have more control over the kayak. Yeah that half developed baby duck was gross 😂😂
Thanks for doing this review. I have the Predator 13 paddle kayak and was thinking of upgrading to the Predaror PDL, but it seems like the Topwater 120 is more stable, and cheaper. I fish up north of bodega a lot and was worried the 120 might not be able to handle ocean fishing but it looks like it can do that just fine.
Moo, after 4 hours riding those big swells that day I might cancel my Great America annual pass 😀🤪. Btw, early congratulations on almost reaching 5k subscribers buddy !🤩🥳
Haha 😂😂😂that egg looked super gross, but you were brave enough to get it a shot, so good on you. I'm a new friend here from YourNextCast, you mentioned your channel in a recent shout-out vid, fun channel. Hope we can stay connected
LMAO!!! Too funny!!! It's 2022 and I'm seriously considering buying a Salty for northwest coastal fishing and crabbing. They're going for $2200 new but I also have the opportunity to buy a very lightly used and fully rigged Hobie Outback that has a sweet big wheel cart and gps/fish finder for the same price. I know you're familiar with both. I love the reverse drive of the salty for staying alongside the local jetty against the wind but the Hobie comes with a bunch of goodies. What do you think? Lol! No pressure.
Most people don't realize it's not the swell it's the seconds that count if you got a 20 foot swell with a 30 second it doesn't matter because you'll never even notice them but if you have a 3 foot with 2 seconds you're getting hit every 2 seconds with a 3 foot wave anybody listening to a Weather Channel if you hear a 6 ft 3second that's a 6 ft wave hitting you every 3 seconds
@@Fishing247 yep that's how you tell how rough and then there's also chop which there could be 3 foot swell at 10 seconds with a one and a half foot chop which makes it even worse
My Cambodia military brother gave that to us to eat then again us marine boys are crazy lol lol awesome video fish on next time you'll get some good review as well
Thanks for watching. This is pretty dry kayak with pretty high gunwale which I have mixed feelings about. In my opinion kayaks are supposed to be wet. In offshore, every kayak will get wet a lot od timea due to waves.
Hopefully you get this comment. I noticed you have, what it looks like is a Garmin Striker 4, on your 120 PDL. If so where did you place the transducer? I know there is a mounting plate on the bottom. I've seen a couple videos where they had to modify either the mounting plate or the transducer bracket. To get it to fit. Thanks for your time.
120 pdl mounting plate really only works with humminbirds since they are same company and with some transducers with modification. Striker 4 transducer is too thick to fit. I put my transducer inside the rectangular hatch behind the seat using duct seal.
local tradition in the Russian river and Timber cove area for Noob divers is the eating of the Banana Slug! LIVE..not many can do the task. thanks for the vid.
Hey PK! Have you ever been in the predator PDL? If so how does it compare to the top water 120? I'm about a week away from buying a kayak and I really have my heart set on the predator PDL but I've heard the top water is more stable... I live in Oregon and want to hit the ocean what do you think? You're one of the first people I started watching on RU-vid by the way Love your videos! 😁
Thanks for the support. No I have not been on the Predator PDL. Just by looking at the hull of Predator, it seems like it's more fit for rough water even though it's does not have the primary stability that Topwater offers. I think they both are good seaworthy kayaks.
@@MooMooOutdoors oops... I may have been a little drunk last night and thought I was commenting on one of PK's videos not yours moo moo sorry I suck... But you're awesome too but I've only discovered you recently 😅
@@MooMooOutdoors I started off looking at videos on PK's profile somehow it ended up with you... And no I'm not racist all Asians do not look alike you PK look totally different lmao 🤣 if / when I make it down to California maybe I'll run into you lol
Great review. Those were some big swells, which makes for a good test for it. Did the drive feel more smooth after using it more? The one I demoed did not feel that smooth. I can definitely feel the difference with my Pro Angler 360 versus my Outback. It requires way more effort to pedal, but you get used to it after a while. The mirage drive 360 is amazing. You should make him take a big whiff of Durian and then eat it. I can only eat Balut after a couple of beers. I tried sober, but couldn't do it 😆
Big swells, no fish, but I have to admit that Moo looks very handsome on the yakak. 🤣🤣🤣. By the way,. Moo got skunked because he did not do the fish calls.
@@OfficeofthePacific It really depends on the model. If you compare Topwater 120 pdl to Hobie ProAngler 12, which are the same dimension, they are about the same.
Thanks for an actual on the saltwater review. Are you going to review the new saltwater version of this kayak? Looks like the hull has been designed with more a V hull design. I've been saving up money to buy a new pedal kayak. Have and use ocean kayak prowler 13 right now for saltwater fishing in San Diego.
@@MooMooOutdoors if you ever make it down to San Diego I'll let you borrow mine. If I can maybe hook you up with Roman and he can let you borrow his kraken 13 footer
Moo it looked nasty out there. Good for you for getting out... I passed, but had to work, yadaah yadaah... Anyways I'd rather be in my Hobie Outback as opposed to the Oldtown. ;-)
If it has same plastic gear track as Topwater 120, I don't recommend mounting a downrigger. It's gonna be okay for a few times but if you use it for too many times the track will probably get warped.
You need Scotty Gear Head Track Adapter. However, it's not the best way. A lot of gear tracks have flex to it and it can come off. The best way is to install a Scotty base mount.
I think you should feed him "Eskimo Ice Cream" or perhaps something with brains. Either of those sound gross! I thought that boat looked much wider than your Revo. You're gonna have to ice those legs!
@Andy Outdoors, Hi Andy, a few of us are going to hmb this Friday. The swell will be 1-2 ft like every 15 sec., join us if you can. We will be there at 6 am in kayak rental spot, hope to launch by 6.45 😀. So far, we have 6 people going...
Carlos Fung woah!! That sounds fun! But I can’t make it lol, need to take the kids to school. The only time I get to fish will be on the weekends. Good luck guy, go slay them!
With little bit of practice and confidence, they are not bad. I've been out when it was much much worse. I was scared but end of the day, I gain much confidence.
@@MooMooOutdoors i had not heard that. Well that just misses the whole point then..... Ooh i know! Have him try lutefisk. Its a traditional Scandinavian fish dish that is basically grey fish jelly that smells god aweful
