"I don't think he is as stupid as he seems." "My dear, NO ONE is as stupid as HE seems." Absolutely hilarious. (not to mention, you aren't entirely sure if he is simply mocking the Doctor, or if he is - more likely - calling him out. Saying 'I know what you are doing & you are not going to fool me.')

The best ending to a Doctor Who episode? Probably "The Horror of Fang Rock." The poem was so fitting, and Baker's voice echoing in the foggy darkness.... (goosebumps)

If The Daleks' Masterplan wasn't mostly lost, it would be VERY high on this list. 12 parts, but oh so worth it. P.S. My favourite Hartnell speech/scene is at the end of the otherwise meh story of the Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Eve. It takes "heartbreaking" to a whole new level.

Oh man. Some great choices. An episode of The Sea Devils was the first ever one I saw in colour (on my grandparents brand new colour TV). I still remember that and it was 45 years ago and I was 4. Made a huge impression on me and has always been a favourite story. Pyramids of Mars - all time favourite. Genesis of the Daleks - unforgettable. Also agree about Season 13. Terror of the Zygons had just aired when my family visited Blackpool. Highlight of the visit was the Dr. Who exhibition. They had some Zygon exhibits, which was just awesome. My two favourite Doctors are also Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee. Always assumed that was because I'm an old fart now. I must go and watch some of these again.
@UnchainedEruption
@UnchainedEruption 6 лет назад
I definitely agree. The Jon Pertwee era, at least at its height in Seasons 7, 8, and 9, was imo not only by far the best era of Doctor Who, but it is arguably also the greatest television ever made, particularly with stories such as Inferno, The Silurians, Curse of Peladon, The Sea-Devils, The Daemons, The Time Monster, etc. (and I say this as someone who got hooked on Doctor Who by starting with the new/reboot show only 4 years ago (which still feels like a long time to me))

I couldn't tell whether or not you dubbed his voice over the video or not for a few moments there! Absolutely wonderful! You've pointed out a few key things that have given me an idea for a serious Doctor Who story in which I shall endeavor to write. I do look forward to watching more of your videos on Doctor Who! My Top 10. These are my 'go to' episodes, or episodes I recommended fans of the newer show to watch if they were interested in older Doctor Who: 1. Inferno - A brilliant 7 parter with some great nods to Orwell, and yes, even though the fully transformed Primords look a little like low budget green wolf-men with pillows stuffed up their backs, the concept still terrifies me and I want to see the adventure at Krakatoa. 2. Resurrection of the Daleks - Creepy, disgusting, morbid, dark and ultimately depressing. Tegans' last words resonated so much with me and really summed up the mood of the episode in a great way. And, much like 'Adronzani', no one wins. 3. Spearhead from Space - Childhood trauma episode. I will never forget the Auton rampage, and honestly this is the most professional looking Doctor Who episode ever. Very well done and sets up the 'Doctor on Earth' dynamic really well. 4. Attack of the Cybermen - Telos, Ice Tombs, Sewers, Mind Control, Lytton dying. This is an episode I can go back to again and again and again and enjoy without every regretting putting in the DVD. Well paced, with some great cyber fighting, and an interesting gap filler in the Cyberman mythos. 5. The Ark in Space - Green bubble wrap aside, another good, dark story which uses the doomed 'humanity in cryo-sleep' plot really well. The Wirrn too are a creepy villain, and the transformation, while goofy looking, is pretty creepy. 6. The Curse of Fenric - Vampires scared me as a kid, and this added to that fear. Another creepy one, using Gothic imagery, and some great visual and make-up effects, plus Ace's conflict over her mother is really impactful. 7. The Green Death - Hippies and the Military have to team up to stop giant insects created by an evil corporation controlled by a giant megalomaniac AI super computer. Barmy as all hell, but so much fun and a touching end to Jo's character. 8. The Horror of Fang Rock - Doctor Who goes Gothic again and it really works. Creepy, with a mix of 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' and 'The Blob' with some great world building moments with the Rutan and the Sontaran war. 9. Remembrance of the Daleks - Great fun. The Dalek battles, Davros is back, the Doctor revisits where it all began and Ace kicks arse and takes names. Just a fun episode with a great scope and a real gem of 80's Doctor Who. 10. The Daleks - My dad asked me what Doctor Who VHS I wanted from HMV when I was a boy, probably only about 8 or 9 years old. I immediately saw the cover and pointed to The Daleks. It was the first old B&W Who I'd ever watched and it impacted me so much I wanted to know more about the show. This is the one that got me into Doctor Who as a fully fledged fan. Eerie, well realised and a hallmark of what was to come. Fantastic stuff.

I haven't seen any of the Peter Davison era, and I haven't gotten to most of Hartnell, Troughton, C. Baker, or McCoy (Sadly. I think they're all fabulous) In chronological order: 10) Tomb Of The Cybermen Not perfect, but terrific overall. Troughton and Jaime are wonderful, and Victoria is quite good. And the Cybermen are portrayed perfectly. "We will survive" is the perfect mantra for them. Because what are the Cybermen but the epitome of survival at all costs? 9) Enemy Of The World Gripping, well paced, and one of the best performances in Doctor Who history. 8) The Sea Devils Definitely less nuanced than the Silurians, but it's just so fun. Pertwee, Delgado, and Jo are in top form, and for a six-parter, it's very well paced. 7) The Time Warrior Pure, unadulterated fun from start to finish. I could go on about this one for a long time. 6) Pyramid Of Mars Brilliant, just brilliant. The mummies design is pretty clunky, but other than that, I can't find any flaws. 5) Seeds Of Doom Such a great time. Part Six is weak by comparison to the others, but it's well worth it. 4) City Of Death What can I say about this that hasn't already been said? It's just great. 3) Vengeance On Varos I wasn't sure whether to put this or Attack Of The Cybermen, but this one won out. Such a relevant, enjoyable story. And Colin Baker is EXTREMELY underrated. 2) Remembrance Of The Daleks Probably my favorite Dalek story of all time. McCoy is easily one of my favorite Doctors, and his chemistry with Ace is outstanding. And damn, that ending gives me chills. 1) The Happiness Patrol I felt like I was having a bizzare dream while watching this, and I fucking loved it. And that ending, again, was just phenomenal. Btw, can Kandyman come back? Please?

Great list. I was born 1968 and was an avid Doctor Who viewer here in Australia. Most of the Tom Baker episodes were repeated several times, and after 1975 the Jon Pertwee stories where there were colour prints of every episode were sometimes repeated. Other Pertwee stories were skipped I think. My faves included Spearhead from Space (nightmares), Robot (scary), Genesis of the Daleks (haunting), Pyramids of Mars (terrified me), Planet of Evil, Seeds of Doom, Earthshock (we saw that first cliffhanger unspoiled and nearly died), Caves of Androzani (the first cliffhanger was incredible). Tom Baker was really my first Doctor - I had only very vague memories of there being a grey haired Doctor. In the late 1980s the ABC repeated all extant serials (in an early evening strip timeslot) and I loved watching it all in sequence. By 1989 they no longer balked at showing a serial where all or some episodes were in monochrome. I recall one of the episodes of Planet of the Daleks that they showed, was a monochome print. I had terrible flashbacks at times and I finally learned the source of mysterious childhood terrors I clearly recalled (they were the devil doll in Terror of the Autons, the Sea Devils emerging from the sea, and a couple of other moments). As I was just a kid I didn't really recall Pertwee that well but on seeing them again recalled moments in Spearhead from Space, Carnival of Monsters, Day of the Daleks, The Time Warrior, Death to the Daleks, Planet of the Spiders. Mostly the scary parts with monsters. That 1980s repeat run was the first time I ever saw The Brain of Morbius, and The Deadly Assassin. Years later I saw an ancient TV Week magazine and saw that the ABC originally shown Morbius in a timeslot after 8.30 pm. After that it and Assassin were omitted from repeat runs. But yeah they were restored for the 1989 repeat run. c.2003 the ABC again did a full Doctor Who repeat again in an early strip timeslot.

I loved the Tomb of Rassilon, the chance to see a number of Doctors together in a story is great. Unfortunately, Tom Baker got stuck in some Time vortex Void. But with Richard hurndall, Patrick Troughton, Jon Pertwee, Pete Davidson. On top of this, you had the Master, the high council of the Time Lords, the appearance of the Cyber Men. It just so good a production, I feel!

I can't really bring myself to do a best 10 overall, so I'll just do my favourites for each Doctor from the classic era: 1) The Gunfighters - This story is here just for its pure camp value. It never fails to make me laugh, and I find that the way that it tells its story though song is quite a novel idea 2) Power of the Daleks - Dark, brooding and mysterious. 'nuff said 3) The Sea Devils - This is the Third Doctor era in a nutshell; the Master, the UNIT team, everything is on form for one of my favourite stories ever made 4) The Talons of Weng-Chiang - Sure some elements are a little bit questionable now, but in terms of atmosphere, writing and acting, this is quite possibly the best. Aside from the giant rat... 5) Snakedance - Maybe a bit controversial to some, but this is mainly because this was my first Doctor Who story, ever. It may look a little garish, but it is the script and the performances that sell it. 6) Vengeance on Varos - No question really. The Sixth Doctor is my personal favourite of the incarnations, and Colin gives it his all amid the dodgy sets and subpar direction, but it is as you said, all down to the script 7) Ghost Light - Confusing, baffling but fantastic. Nearly everything came to light here (pun intended), and was just one of the reasons why season 26 is one of the best (not Battlefield, definitely not Battlefield...)

I saw the The Invasion and Tomb of the Cybermen when they released them on video. These videos were always hard to find, than I found them at Sun Coast video in the early to mid 90ties. I used to tape these on Betamax from PBS. My friends thought I was nuts for watching this show. In 85, I made my dad take me to the DW convention were we watched a private screening of Attack of the Cybermen and Mark of the Rani. My dad was a football player he couldn't believe was hanging out with all these crazies. So I met JNT and Colin Baker at this event and got autographs.

@legofan370

I mean, I don't want to bash your opinion or be mean, but Web Planet is more so notorious for being one of the worst Hartnell stories. It was one of those ideas that was AMAZING on paper but due to budget, it just couldn't work. As well as the acting being really hammy and over the top. It had great ambition but ultimately failed in execution (at least to me and to many other fans). I am slowly making my way through the Hartnell era and I am very hard pressed to find a worse story. Again to me. It's fine if you like it, I get it. I don't want to shit on you my guy.

Sharaz-Jek ended up as an anti-hero in the end. Despite being infatuated with Peri he saved her, plus the doctor, and the real baddie was Morgus, who he ends up killing. Go easy on Jek!

Cool list. Vengeance on Varos was solid, one of my 2 favorite Colin Baker's stories, I fully agree the transmogrify scene was awful and filler and actually hurt the story. Pyramids of Mars is excellent. I saw it as a kid and it freaked me out. Sutekh was awesome. Dalek Invasion of Earth was one of Hartnell's best, that speech alone was so solid and iconic. Survival was quite good. Ainley was on top form here, less hammy than he often was. He was menacing and downright scary for once. Sea Devils isn't my favorite Pertwee story but it was good. The parts with the Master in the prison were quite good. The Invasion is simply excellent. Wish it wasn't partially animated, i.e. wish we had the entire original story, but loved it. And yes, despite its great length it was just so good. Tobias Vaughn was excellent too! 'Packer!' I love Earthshock. I hate Adric less than most but still not that sad about his fate here. Peter Davison is a great Doctor and I like him overall. City of Death is fantastic and it has John Cleese! Just amazing. Genesis of the Daleks was my first story ever. I saw it in the late 70s here on PBS and I had to keep watching! Nyder is indeed a great supporting villain and Micheal Wisher is for me THE Davros. And yes, Caves of Androzani is excellent barring the creature and the army uniforms. Sharaz Jek is one of the best villains ever. He is tragic and has depth, that makes him so much more interesting than a screaming loon. He was very creepy too as you say but also makes you feel sorry for him too.

Top 10 of Classic Who is definetely hard. In chronological order I would say: - Power of the Daleks - Enemy of the World - Invasion - Invasion of the Dinosaurs - Genesis of the Daleks - Talons of Weng Chiang - City of Death - Shada - Remembrance of the Daleks - Curse of Fenric And with that I am leaving out other great stories such as The Daleks' Invasion of Earth, The Web of Fear, The War Games, Inferno, The Mind of Evil, Colony in Space, The Daemons, Day of the Daleks, Robot, The Seeds of Doom, The Face of Evil, Horror at Fang Rock, Enlightenment, Caves of Androzani, Battlefield and Ghost Light.

Oh my god Nyder is the best! Having seen Genesis before The Silurians, 2 stories I both love and could rewatch over and over again, i must say it's a weird unsettling feel seeing Peter Miles in the silurians, you just wanna scream at 3, "ey dat's Ny...Oh oh wait!" ^^' Fantastic character, 1 of my fav in all of Doctor Who. I'm not _as big_ of a 5th Doctor Fan, him being all \*too* 'human' & me loving that weird/grimm side of the doctor, 4/Tom Baker being my all time fav... Still caves deseves to be on here. The rest I can also agree on! Vengeance on Varos is an absoloute master piece (in midst of that weird mixed bag that is the 6th doctor era) & you picked 1 of my fav Hartnell speeches, too! \*,* Having seen Cat trap (the doc on Survival) & therefor knowing just _HOW good_ this story AND S27 could've been if it wasn't for JNT & Michael F'N Grade, I can't really blame them for the not _that_ good cheetah costumes etc... Anyways I miss Remembrance of the Daleks! Also favs of mine (that might _almost_ make the list) that I think are really underrated are e.g. - Terror of the Zygons, with its beautiful oudoor shots & Baker at its best! It sorta feels like a 3rd & 4th doctor story mixed into one with best of both worlds, focussing on the amazing chemistry between a fantatsic doc & really good companions but also havin some hilarious sFx with the pizza computer even Tom Baker made fun of in the bonus features & the almost "Invasion of the dinosaurs"-ish Nessie. :'D - The five doctors! While It couldve done more with its elements, especially the brig, it still just is sooooo damn rewatchable & having the Brigadier punch the Ainley incarnation of the Master with that line delivered is just pure joy! Plus it features 4 incarnations of this madman arguing with eachother in wonderful wonderful childish ways, it brings tears of joy to my face of laughing out loud. Cool video! Keep it up!

Awesome list Wingy. My top 10 mostly consists of Tom Baker and Robert Holmes stories. They just stand out as contributing quintessential Who for me 10. The Ark In Space (Dodgy effects aside the sheer concept of the Wirrn is terrifying.) 9. The Hand Of Fear ( A B movie style plot with an emotional departure that did not feel jarring to me) 8. The Caves Of Androzani ( The cliffhangers for part 1 and 3 never fail to make my jaw drop every time) 7. Carnival Of Monsters ( Batshit crazy and full of creativity like the Mind Robber but with a bit more substance and intrigue for me) 6. City Of Death (probably the funniest episode in all of Who history all while having a plot with stakes and tension. Plus Paris looks gorgeous New Who should return there) 5. Spearhead From Space ( A daring new set-up for the show. Pertwee just oozes charm and the Autons are an ingenious invention.) 4. The Enemy Of The World (The discovery of this episode was the highlight of the 50th anniversary for me. I enjoy how it broke the conventions of 60's Who. Troughton's performance as both the Doctor and Salamander is really gripping stuff) 3. The Tomb Of the Cybermen ( It maybe dated but this story still has classic status. The Cybermen's voices genuinely creep me out and the touching words of comfort the Doctor gives to Victoria sums up everything Doctor Who is about). 2. The Deadly Assassin (Much like The Caves of Androzani and Heaven Sent this story puts the Doctor through hell by disgracing him and by sending him to the Matrix and turning him into Rambo. I enjoyed seeing the inner workings of Gallifrey's rotten to the core society despite it normalising the Time lords a little bit. It helped us understand why the Doctor left Gallifrey in the first place. 1. Genesis Of The Daleks (Well Wingy summed it up perfectly. I loved how solemn The Doctor is in this story he's far less jokey which really helped emphasis the stakes. I loved Davros's cold and calculating nature. I always get the sense that The Daleks were the most evil little shits in all creation in this story, maybe because the effects of the second world war were still being felt even after 30 years.)

Psyche M $100?! Do you not just have them in most DVD shops? That's weird. In the UK we do and except for box sets, all of the classic stuff is £10 or less. An alternative is to try find it to watch online, I've found a few websites where you can stream it so just Google it and you should find it.

most dvd shops don't have them, and if they do, they are still expensive. amazon is the cheapest place to buy them, and seeing a good episode for 100$ is not uncommon at all. yes, I have watched some episodes online, but I want to buy them instead, so that I can watch them in better quality. what's even more annoying is that below our prices, we see the price it would be in the uk. nothing more annoying than wanting to buy the ambassadors of death, its almost 200$, and then u see that in the UK its like 9 pounds.

Philadelphia Whovian Hey there! The ridiculous cost of US Doctor Who DVDs is why I bought a region-free DVD player for about $30. I get my DVDs from the UK, and even with shipping, they're many times cheaper than the ones here. In addition to new DVDs, I've also bought a few used ones through Amazon.co.uk third-party sellers, and they've all been great, like new, and always arriving much faster than originally estimated. Another option would be to subscribe to Britbox, which is about $8/month, and which has almost all of the extant Classic series (there are a few Dalek stories that they don't have). It's available as a Roku channel and an Android app, and I'm pretty sure that you can also stream it via the web.

It's a US exclusive that includes a 9th/10th doctor sonic screwdriver, a two disc dalek collection featuring Dalek, The Stolen Earth/ Journey's End, Asylum of the Daleks, and Into the Dalek along with Genesis of the Daleks as a bonus feature, and it has a two disc cyberman collection which includes Army of Ghosts/Doomsday, Closing Time, Nightmare in Silver, and Dark Water/Death in Heaven with Earthshock as a bonus feature. The whole set is, as I got it, only $25! I can't recommend it enough

I always say, if you haven't seen "Genesis of the Daleks" you're not a Whovian. The only problem I had with "City of Death", one of my favourites, is the death scene of professor Kerensky . That was sooooo cheesy. If not for that, the story is perfection. Yes, I have the "City of Death" and "Pyramids of Mars" figures sets. ;) And I'm 50. Never grow up.
