I think it's safe to say I got the full VW experience and what an experience it was. I'll be uploading a video on Wednsday with John the owner of this camper, talking all things about this beautiful VW Westfalia! 🤙🏼
Im english and i approve this content for overseas markets..... i hope that people thinking of going to the uk watch this first because its the most realistic representation of britishness ive ever seen. This guy is so down to earth and funny its making me homesick
This brings back so many memories of my childhood and high-school, my Mom has one of these. It was always an adventure! She still has it too, just haven't ridden in it in years and years. In high-school it was her only vehicle. Now she has a couple others to choose from.
i LAUGHED OUT LOAD AT THIS VIDEO I HAD VW CAMPERS IN MY YOUNGER DAYS AND IT TOOK ME BACK . I SPENT MORE TIME ON THE BACK OF A RAC VAN LOL . LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT X
Since this series started. You seem so.much happier now. Weather it's having Ben with you now or the change up, you seem a lot happier. Loving the new series. The VW bus is one of my favorite vans. Seeing you without power steering was hysterical. Personally love no power steering, feel more connected to the vehicle.
Love this new style of video Will! After watching all of your old videos through Nepal, stealth camping in the Ford Galaxy, to the Fiat Ducato build - I can't believe the production value and presenting skills now. This reminds of me of the old Top Gear and it seems like you're happy doing this. Keep up the good work and looking forward to seeing more!
OMG Will, I've been pissing my pants with laughter from the first sec till last! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 You really did get the FULL Westfalia Experience I might say! I felt exactly the same way, when I first drove off with my rental Daisy 🌼 If I would ever be able to get one of these for myself, I need an build-in mechanic to join me on my trips 😂😂😂
@@WillsWhereabouts after watching this again it sounds like you're saying here @14:38 'Would I buy myself a Westfailure?'.....😄....man, you brought it on yourself! ☮😆
The leak in the morning is probably from the sink/waterpomp, it's at the exact same spot. And absolutely love these videos Will! Great idea to explore different vanbuilds every week and maybe get inspired to include in your own van in the future.
Probably one of the two most valuable vehicles you have tried so far! Apart from the 'engine' issues I really thought this camper really 'delivered' on its promise.I would buy one in a heart beat. Fabulous.
Will, I gotta say Ben is great support in the show. Love how he's just laughing behind the camera. Good to see another video where something goes wrong but the cooking section is perfect. The be camper looks awesome. I love the style, shape, wheels the shape of the roof, down to the front headlights.
Way fun video. I can recall driving by a VW dealer when I was a kid and seeing one of these for sale week after week. It was a dream of mine to own one someday, but now I am glad the dream never became reality. 😅 Thanks, will, for some great content!
That was a fun video. I've had a similar experience with my 71 T2, looks like one of the idle channels on the carb was blocked so it went out when it is warm and the auto choke wears off. It starts normally if you leave the Ignition off for about 5 minutes, since the choke will reengage. Also in general, if you're trying to start it with an already warm engine, you'll have to start it with full gas, and NOT pumping it. Otherwise you'll drown the engine, which seems to have happened most of the time. To clean the idle channels you have two nozzles on the right side of the carb, which can be cleaned fairly easily by piercing through with a small needle/wire and blowing them out by hand. A temporary fix is to turn the topmost screw on the gas lever in the back out as much as it goes, which will add some gas all the time without you having to hold it down.
Will can I suggest a video idea. Interviewing all the owners of the campers/vehicles you've camped in. The main question is "What's the story behind this camper / vehicle setup" It could be a compilation video with clips from different interviews.
A cracking wee van. I always wanted one of those when i was younger. I have to say though, looking at the issues you had (hilarious though they were) i might pass on getting one now. Great work though, Will. This 'series' seems to be suiting you down to the ground. Keep it going, mate!!
You went full Norman Wisdom on this one pal! Absolutely pissed myself when you fell out the van, even more so when instead of helping the presenter to his feet and asking if he’s ok the cameraman just pissed himself laughing too! Comedy gold 😂 Entertainment factor off the scale on this one… Loved it! 👍🏻👌🏻
OMG, this video is absolutely bonkers and hilarious. I laughed from start to finish. You get better every week Will. Can't wait for your next adventure.
I like the nostalgic look and feel of the VW. But old vehicles are always a ball ache. I prefer your new reliable van tbh. Great vid very entertaining as always. Thanks Will. Your content is very high level, your a natural at this.
T2s are pretty unreliable, but the majority of older vans are FAR more reliable than modern vans, what shit themselves quite regularly, and cost loads to repair.
VW always needed to be owned by mechanics. LOL! And push starting vehicles was ‘normal’ in the day. It was quite a memory watching you deal with their peculiarities. Great video.
Older vehicles like this should be fully inspected at a qualified workshop before traveling more than 10 kilometers. But this is a fun experience and a little scary too 😅 • i'm watching from Melaka, Malaysia 🇲🇾🌺
I had a 1972 Westie for over 20 years and we managed to put 160,000 kilometres on it, mostly with two adults and two kids. Great vehicle and mostly reliable. The one in your video is in lovely general condition, I imagine that some restoration has been done. I expect that the engine trouble is a minor problem, probably something dirty or needing adjustment. It's not a 1972 model though, it's a later model.
the trick to slowing down in an old manual vehicle is to gear down before approaching an intersection..that way it'll be less work on the breaking...I own a 1967 MG B manual convertible with no power steering...it's truly a workout but a much more enjoyable one than a gym...
Great video had my 74 westy for 7 years only 1 breakdown.People think new vehicles don’t fail but as someone who works with them everyday they do on a regular basis and are far more costly to repair. Also had a T3 Westy for 9 years which never let us down apart from 1 puncture
If you want an easy recipe. Melt 50 - 100 grams of butter (a stick'ish), add chopped/crushed garlic (3 - 4 cloves, to taste), fry off quickly, add a package of plum tomatoes and cook together, add apple vinegar (or other kind of vinegar), salt and pepper, extra herb if desired. And you've got a simple tomato sauce. Can be served with e.g. store-bought gnocchi. Add rotisserie chicken if you want something more meaty.
Loving the content mate! You've really found a niche theme for your channel that has massively evolved from when you built your own campervan! Hope to have a camper of my own one day soon. So you're an inspiration bro 👍🏻
For me will this video was like watching tv , the editing and skill and the hole proration was top notch and you deserve big numbers from this video . Hats off to you ❤
I had a ‘76 bay window and absolutely loved it. Best thing about old veedubs is when the stop working, which they will, you only need 3 spanner’s and a screwdriver to fix ‘em. If they were better on fuel I’d have one tomorrow. Will, those mozzies looked like they were queuing up to have a feast on you while you slept. Cheers for the content mate. 👍🏻
This series is good, very entertaining. Regarding the VW, me thinks that it still has the infamous Solex carb installed; total nightmare, over-engineered crap. I've had experience of the carb's accelerator jet popping out, getting sucked into the inlet manifold, and completely ceasing the engine of my Beetle (many years ago). A carburetor for the masochist. Keep up the good work Will.🙂
wow....OMG..... what a vlog.... but.... that pasta looks awesome.............. ummm thinking of a recipe for you to cook next......well done will for your efforts driving this VB
I’m really enjoying this series. I recon that driving that van was challenging for you however classic vehicles will make you appreciate the modern convenience of the vans with the new technology. I’ve never had a vehicle that hadn’t powered steering. I recon I’d be bricking it with the need to maintain those revs and go round the windy country roads😅
Loving ya videos Will, from the classic days of ya ford galaxy to now, this new series not only entertaining but really informative as well. Keep it up mate 😎👍
I actually just found your channel and I'm loving the new content!!! I've laughed more in the past hour than i have all week. I just subscribed, looking forward to more camping adventures in wierd/ wacky camper set ups!!! USA here 🇺🇸
im loving youre vids. the the new way you have it now dose make for a new feel and uniq viewing. 'something i've learnt again is to do what u love and youll find a new easy path to the tasks of the day and be more happy with youre day and evenings, 'especially if its a a job and u find that change is calling, its defo a calling not to be scared of it. keep it up Will what ever wether what ever youre choice may be in years to come.
Lots of happy memories of traveling up and down the Pacific Coast in our 69 Westy back when I was a kid, though without the breakdown problems you experienced. The fold down bed was pretty comfortable but I was young enough to sleep in the cot in the pop-top or hammock set up above the front seats (I could see the mounting brackets on the A-pillars.) Ours didn't have the stove so there was a rear-facing seat in that space. I really miss our 64 splitty too.
Had a few of them, at least when they go wrong the engine's are so simple to work on, had so many great many happy memories in them , now I'm an old man I like more comfort, great video will
I get the romance of a VW camper, I love the style, the history,... but I wouldn't want to travel any great distance in one. It would be fine for a couple of hours then a stopover I guess. Many years ago my wife and I were off to Cornwall from the Midlands on our annual surf pilgrimage. We overtook a VW camper on the M5, then stopped off at Gordano services so the dogs could have a pee. We overtook it again a while later. We arrived at our campsite, set up our caravan, pitched the awning, took the dogs for a walk, and then guess who arrives at the same campsite : -) I feel like it was a long day for that guy.
Had a 1971 Bay camper, looked fab but it was the worse driving vehicle I’ve ever owned. Changing gear was like stirring a bowl of porridge and was so slow that pedestrians used to overtake me on the pavement but it was cooler than a box of ice 😏🥰🤣
will we still see you go on adventures in your own van from time to time?, i loved those videos cause it felt like there was more of a connection to your own personal van
Sounds like an alternator problem, no start when pushing and popping the clutch is a dead giveaway (by doing this you are bypassing the battery but cranking the alternator which is just a big dynamo)
Brilliant video Will, as they all have been so far. Loved our old VeeDubs and at least you've had the full experience 😂. Had Type 2's and T25's through to a T4 a T5 and now a Crafter LWB. Without doubt our favourite is the T25 Westfalia California, it took us across the UK and Europe many times, a brilliant van with a layout you'll find in the modern vans. If you can find one give it a go. Can't wait to see what you drive next 😁👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Will, just found your channel with these different vehicles etc. Really enjoying watching them. When i was a child we had a VW campervan, not like this one tho. Cooker was under the front passenger seat, toilet, 2 hammock beds in the pop up bit, double bed at the back, big table in the middle, even a storage cupboard. Brought back memories as i lost my dad in 2021. So thank you. Just researched the model - 1972 T2 campervan dormobile.
Enjoyed the last couple of your videos I've come across, subscribed, don't know if you have already but I'd love to see anybody camp in a Citroen 2cv Fourgonnette retro or original, happy trails, 👍🚙👌🇨🇮☘️
Niiiice ! probably cost more than my £30k motorhome, Sometimes/ occasionally……….. things do improve over the years !!!! 😂rare these days😳 Great adventure, as always! A fun reminder…. sat on my wee travel box …. And thought…… jeebers, it was so crap back then! ( I’d forgotten that ) 😂❤️x! Beautiful restoration btw! X
So funny Will, great video,'break, break' your driving experience in it was hilaitlrious, but also like somrthing of a funfair ride. She is a beautiful VW, and its exactlybwhat its suppose to be,and great experience. Recipe, boil cut up chicken pieces, then transfer into a pan, pour cut up pineapple into a pan, add peppers chopped,, put inyo a wrap, with a spot of mayo. You can add chips and put in a pitta, but in a wrap without chips is nice too. Must say a hilairious video Will. Fairplay not crashing the VW, im sure John jas watched this and either laughed or gone out and hugged his van, that it got home safe. She is absoluteky beautiful.
What a beauty Will! Absolutely gorgeous VW Westfalia! At least your upper body and arms got a good workout with the steering, speaking of which, I can't believe the size of the steering wheel! It was massive! 😂🤣
24:45 realistically as a precaution incase its oil or fuel you shouldve really contacted the fire service as when i was younger in the 90s our family car which was a ford escort estate had an oil or petrol leak and my dad had to call the fire brigade out due to fuel and oil fumes being so flammable
Will you must feel very honoured that so many people are willing to loan you their pride and joy for you to make comedy classics. Norman Wisdom the 2nd in the making😂😂😂
