I tried a Krieghoff K-80 and an Ultra XS Pro. I bought the XS Pro - I couldn't miss with it! The only thing I don't like about all of the Brownings I have had is that the firing pin(s)become pitted after a relatively short time.
@@austinglenn315 I couldn't tell you, gunsmith I use told me to not worry about it, it's purely the action design. Beretta don't suffer with it, or indeed the old Winchester 101.
Ive just switched from beretta to browning and got the ultra xs. Suits my 6ft 1” build much better, shot 100 clays through it, very little recoil and no bruise on my cheek bone. Love it
I have the new XS Pro to complement my Ultra XTR and it is lovely. You are correct the recoil if simply sublime. The gun swings smoothly and directly to make hitting them there clays easier and sweeter. Great gun.
I have to say I like my Yildiz Pro40. People slag it off when compared to their fancy Beretta’s and Brownings until I beat them. I have put through 5000 cartridges since I bought it and it hasn’t missed a beat.
Had the original ultra GTI S, then the Ulta XS adj stock 32 with midas chokes , still love it after 16 years now my game gun find it mounts slides quicker to the shoulder with the solid plastic heel plate when you have winter shooting jacket on. Also own a 32 XS pro which I have had for 3 years for clay shooting both guns brilliant ! good review Dennis
Please mention the country of manufacture in your reviews as Miroku makes nearly all of the XS Brownings found here in the US and are not identical to the Belgian Brownings.
I have one of the last models produced of the Ultra XS, absolutely love it on sporting clays. I tried the later model for a full day on the clay ground , liked that as well in fact i prefer the fore end on the later model, but thats about it, I have never really noticed the recoil and i use 28 gm White Gold or 28gm Fiocchi Super Blacks all the time. So for me i may change the Fore end but am completely happy with it otherwise. Are Fore ends available to purchase separately do you know?. Regards Keith
I shoot an original Ultra XS, I bought it second hand earlier this year, it's brilliant and I wouldn't part with it, I fitted an Inflex recoil pad on it (not a perfect fit but near enough) and the recoil is nothing, it fits me very well and to be honest I don't see what I'd gain from buying an XS Pro, incidentally is the original XS steel shot proofed?
I bought a new ‘old stock’ ultra xs in 2018. Twice I’ve tried to part ex it just for a change of gun and twice when I’ve put it in its case to take it to a dealer I’ve changed my mind, just can’t bare to part with it.
Of course the newer XS Pros actually have three different trigger blades supplied, including a knurled one. I believe the XS Pro is Brownings absolute top sporting shotgun and better than any of the 725s and the very great majority of offerings from other manufacturers too. If you cain’t shoot it with an XS Pro, you ain’t gonna shoot it with anything else!
Great review David, can you advise in which year did Browning add the performance steel fleur de Lys? I ask because over the 20+ years production, there will hopefully be a few years models with the perf. steel proof mark added, but before the thicker stock was developed. You probably know why I am asking ;-)
I wish I could buy this in the US but it’s not available here. So instead I went and bought a Citori 725 Sporting Medallion High Grade. I think it’s great shooting but I still would like to add this XS pro as an additional option.
David, two pieces of information you never give but which would be really interesting……..the choke restrictions in the guns you test and also the shells you are using.
David a quick question on felt recoil. Why, in my case, is there more felt recoil with Browning o/u's my Beretta 692? I have now shot five Browning from a pre-war trap gun, a 32" 725 sporter, a game gun and a 525 laminate. I am of average height and build and usually shoot 24g and 28g Gamebore Evo's. There appears to be less cast on and a deeper action on the Browning. Do you have any thoughts?
Out of interest what size barrels is your old XS? I have the old XS with 32 inch barrels which i love but its quite hefty at 9 pounds +. A Gunsmith told me its probably weighted at the stock. He said If i was to remove them it will probably become too barrel heavy. The balance at the moment is near enough perfect . Any ideas? PS any reviews made on the old XS?
I can't find any reviews of the old one for the life of me. It's a shame though, because theres one af my local shop that I'm toying with the idea of buying
@@TSCTheshootingchannel he does reviews on outdoor tables, that bench, indoor wooden tables....he breaks the guns and near throws parts around, he needs a padded bench top with that kind of mechanical sympathy
@@mbal4052 my concern is people like him mistreating guns that get sold on, if you don't have an issue with it great-- so why comment its not your issue
David I need your expert answer to my question. I’m a new shooter and haven’t yet bought a gun. I’m right handed but I’ve been told I’m left eye dominant and to shoot off my left shoulder. Should I buy a left handed gun? Will it be more suited to shooting off my left shoulder? Please help as I’m confused before I even get started.
