lol, I'm 39 years old and just got a Switch from my Mom for Christmas. I haven't grown up at all! She did a really good job though, got the newest version of the full Switch instead of a Switch Lite or getting conned by someone online. My obsession with gaming goes all the way back to Christmas of '92 when she got me a Sega Genesis. Thanks Ma!

Have actually been very impressed with retailers here in New Zealand. A lot of places have listed the new switch as a new product labelled "V2" with the remaining V1 consoles next to it at a lower price. A+ imo

7:12, you should calibrate each display to be the same brightness by measuring the knits. Having both displays on max brightness puts the new switch at a disadvantage since it is outputting more light. Also do the same with the speakers, make sure they're outputting the same amount of sound.

Even though it's unknown whether Joycon Drift is fixed or not, I hope it is, I'm tired of playing games while my Joycon acts like a Mario Kart.

I bought my switch a couple weeks before the new one was announced. I was so bummed that I could have just waited for better battery life. Oh well I still love my switch and don’t plan on replacing it.

So when I went to buy one a month ago, I asked an employee which one to get and he said go with the color joy cons version, cause it's the newer version, any other one is an older version, even the game bundle version is the old one. So I'm glad I listened to him

I don't think it's enough of an upgrade for most people. I'll be still using my older version, and waiting for a much more upgraded version, if one ever comes out.

I've had issues with joycon drift which I managed to fix really easily with electrical contact cleaner (WD40 make some) after spraying that stuff under each thumbsticks rubber skirt I've yet to experience any drift any more. It was about a fiver and did the trick brilliantly. Totally worth giving a try before buying new joycon or sending them in for repair.

Turns out that the old switch is now selling for crazy high prices as that's hackable

I'm an old man gamer and my current switch lives its life 95% docked so I have no use to buy a new one...

When I first got my switch(almost 1/2 a year after they released) after a few days my left joycon knocked something and now if you put a little too much pressure on it it’ll unlock and come off the track.

The performance test is flawed. He is just testing the load times and that only tests the storage. He needs to go to part of the game that has slowdown like the Korok Forest and see if it drops the frame rate as much.

For once in my life, I’m glad I waited. My procrastination is finally paying off after all these years lol.

Most Joycon stick drift is caused by poor storage; where the switch is not in protective cases; it happen to me too. I should have done this in the beginning when it 1st came out; but at that time I didn’t know better.

The whole “it’s possible he joy cons will not drift” thing for me excited. So, I bought a new switch. The same week I bought it my right one drifted

To test the processor you don't rest load times. Load times are mostly the hard drive. Go to a highly intense or dense area. So for Zelda you'd need to go to the Forest where you get the sword. Or death mountain goron village. This yesterday the processors more that the HDD.

A new Cpu won't do anything to load times if the storage can't handle the read/writes

Loading a game doesn't test the processor, it would test the memory and/or disk read speed. You should have done a framerate comparison with an area that usually runs slow on the older switch. The screen test was good though. Thanks

Load time is handled in great deal by the physical storage so it makes sense that you wouldnt see a major difference there.

It doesn't have a *larger* battery, it is just much more energy efficient at computing the same tasks.

I remember with my first switch the joy cons kept coming out without pressing the button but now that’s all gone with the newer models thankfully

I forgot that you use Fahrenheit so I was very confused as to why the switches weren't dying completely

Load times won’t change until BOTH: - an OS upgrade happens to introduce faster over locking value frequencies for the new switch - developers patch their games to take advantage of this feature Remember the over locking thing Nintendo introduce to boost load times only happened two years after the Switch released. I’m sure it will happen. But I’m not sure all games will use it since they were using the existing frequency values until now 🤷🏽‍♂️ Great video anyway, thanks.

Thanks for the comparison. Now I know 100% for sure that the new version, which I have, is better than the previous one. But I heard that they improved the Joy-Cons in the new 2019 version as well. Guess you've heard about the Joy-Con drift right? A wide spreaded well known problem which I didn't have. Bought my switch last year, not long ago (Oct. 2020).

I want to see actual performance tests during gameplay, not just loading time tests. You should find some linear games that have problem spots on the original switch, places where the frame rate reliably dips, or frames drop, or resolution is scaled lower, and see if the Switch Model 2 performs better.

I recently sold my first gen switch as it too was falling apart. Looking to pick up red box Switch very soon.

Im pretty sure i got the newer model. If not im not too disapointed, i was concerned that the upgrades were gonna be way more major. I thought it would be like, new designed joycons (like, the whooe controller, not just the sticks), faster load times, ect

Now you can play Breath of the wild for more than 2 seconds in handheld mode!

Minor variations of the controller could have happened over time and we could be on version #5 for joy cons. I do wonder internally if the chips have changed at all or if just the cooling design and battery size were the only changes.

If you want to know the difference between old and new, the new one has a red box and on the back of the tablet it should say molder number0.001(01) but the old one is 0.001 or something

This is actually a staple of nintendo. I remember getting a gba sp back in the day and the screen was dim. My brother got one two years later and the build quality as well as the brightness were drastically different.

I'd imagine Nintendo put in a newer (more powerful) processor then clocked it down to match the performance of the old Switch so that they could enjoy lower voltage and therefore lower heat, and better battery life.

I got a switch launch day soooo I may need to buy a new one soon cause I noticed mine has the og dock that ends up scratching the screen and I've had to get a new set of joy cons as I've worn those down over time

I have 2 Switches. I bought the first one on release day and the second one about a year later. The release day Switch's original Joy Cons had issues with communication. If we were more than 5 or 6 feet from the console they would sometimes drop. My newer Switch doesn't do this at all. I read somewhere that the internal antenna wasn't long enough for the best communication, and Nintendo released an updated Joy Con a few months after the original run. Oh and my old Joy Cons were replaced with new ones and they no longer drift (or run-away) and the newer Switch has never had the issue, and it gets used far more than the older one.

The drift issue won’t be fixed as long as they’re using a soft material and a hard material rubbing against each other. The metal contacts rubbing on the graphite pads release powder (which is why electronics cleaner can help, it clears the powder), but grooves still happen over time, it’s not an “abuse” issue like some people claim, it’s a flaw in the design.

screens can varie from same models too.., slight color and brightness shifts. . like they mentioned (manufacturing).., seen big differences too (same with 3DS and DS's)

There is actually ANOTHER difference I noticed . My brother recently got the “ newer “ model and when we were both on the Nintendo E-shop , his has Hulu and mine doesn’t? And even the lettering is different. As in mine would say current offers and his would say best deals

I got the red and blue switch back when the first model came out and mine only last like 3 hours before it begins to die. I'm not going to get a newer model to replace it, but it's still kinda sad to see how fast mine dies XD.
