I'll bet the gun men in the old west didn't have a box of holsters they didn't use. Awesome job on the one you made.

I love the whole ghost town set up, you have and the colors everything is painted, and the history lesson that comes along with each video. Very underrated channel. My favourite holster is the cavalry holster, or something referred too as the reverse draw holster. The huge difference between a cavalry holster and the iconic normal western holster is the gun position. With a cavalry, the revolver is faced backwards with its butt faced forwards. To draw the gun, you had to twist your wrist to grab the grip, and twirl your wrist back around while taking the gun out so you can take aim. Although it sounds more impractical, with alot of practise you could draw the gun just as fast or faster than with a normal revolver. It was used commonly by soldiers in the civil war. And while you wont find many gunslingers in the wild west sporting such holsters, some did use them. Including the famous Wild Bill Hickok. Its a shame the holster isnt commonly shown in movies, im guessing because the draw technique for cavalry seems more complex for actors. Still, its my favourite holster out of them all

My Xs great uncke was a Parker Marshal in Ark. Her dad had 2 36 Navy pistols. One with a paper thin sheath with no belt loop. He took these guns to a gunsmith. one was found to be in great condition with all numbers on parts being the same. He surmised that this gun went through the war, then when the owner came home, he put it up. The other had had parts changes and had much wear. This one he assumed went with the sheath.

Santee, In Cowboy Action Shooting the holster rig can be a requirement for the categories you shoot in. Could you discuss the buscadero (gunfighter- grips are below belt) used for B-Western, left and right rigs, holsters at hip bone, with the grips above the belt, and strong side/crossdraw combination with grips above belt? Another good one Santee-in a future piece could you show how the holster is shaped to the gun? I had no idea how it was done many years ago until a friend showed me the process and I couldn't believe I hadn't though of it myself.He wrapped the gun in plastic so that it was protected from water,soaked the holster in water until pliable,then put the gun into it and moulded the leather to the gun.When the leather dries out it retains the shape and fits snugly.Was this the way they always did it or a modern take on it?

Hey Santee, those are some awesome holsters. Do like the ‘Hand of God’ one. My new ones based on one used by Jesse James but it’s black. I never knew Hardin had sewn in ‘holsters’ in his coat! Thank you for these. A photo of my great great grandfather shows a walker (or army colt) sitting in his waistband. Scary choice of placement! xD How common was it to find people competing over who was quickest on the draw? I wonder if QuickDraw is a cool Hollywood idea rather than a cool historical fact. I’ve been watching ‘Godless’ recently and that Deputy, Whitey, he’s always twirling his guns and saying how quick he is. Reminds me of Tombstone with Johnny Ringo & Doc..that infamous cup scene. I think being able to draw quick is great..IF you have the eye and experience to hit the target immediately. Then again a wrong man can be a dead man pretty quick too.

Hey santee, were straps over the back of the gun to hold it in place while in the holster, around in the old west?
@ArizonaGhostriders

Holsters from the period don't depict them. If they were used, it was not common.

There was that Paladin episode where his sadistic 'benefactor' trapped him in a hole and had him modify his cavalry holster - _cutting the flap off, cutting in a throat recurve, water stiffening and larding it, etc._ - just so he could unholster his sidearm fast enough to do him in.

You mean like cross draw versus strong side?
@chunchoe

@@ArizonaGhostriders Yes sir, i think it would be a very interesting video as to why people opted for all the different variations they did and why some chose to reverse their guns etc like wild bill Edit: Oh aswell as all the chest or abdomen style rigs too like doc holiday

We have built 3 “hand of god” holsters thus far! You can buy the template from Tandy leather.

This got me thinking about what a ghost’s holster might be made out of. If the ghost’s gun is drawn from his holster, does it make a sound? 🤠
