Yeah but sam opened a literal god hand, you dont need more than like 2-3 cards to accomplish that in the current game, they dont need to be this specific and most of the times you dont even need to draw into them since they are bonus effects on already big bodies you can just shit out of the (extra) deck lol
It is "bad" resources management, in old YGO you should manage your cards properly or you will lose everything. You may have some turns to draw and refill your hands, but it will be too late.
"JUDGE! JUDGE! I Think my guy is stacking!" This absolutely killed me. Idk why but i think that is the most realistic reaction to your opponent literally drawing every out possible. Another awesome vid! Keep these uploads 🔥
I'm going to say Old, but like 2012-15 Yu-Gi-Oh. I believe it was literally a mid compromised point between the slow pace and the current 2-3 turn duels structure. You had enough creativity to make a board, while still allowing a bit of a back and forward between players. Obviously Pendulum killed that point personally, but the pacing was still faster with its process than how an early YGO duel go, without taking overly long turns
This is for the other 2 idiots who don't know that heavy storm, magic jammer, trap negates, etc. exist. Literally. You can go back and play the old GBA games and if you didn't have trap and magic negates for some of the strongest cards in the game, you're an idiot.
Personally, much bigger fan of the old grindier, more resource based version of YuGiOh. The kind where it was about beating out your opponents resources, or biding time until you get the out. Whereas modern YuGiOh feels like just following a combo spreadsheet to your end board that's unbreakable or OTKs them.
the spread sheat is the resource management, but now its all the resources you have acces to in deck and extra deck and not just in hand. old yugioh was just sacky and new is just more consistant.
@@sobbles6242 But new yugioh literally boils down to a function. "I do full combo, do you have the out? no? I win, GG, next game" That's so horrendously boring because with decks like Swordsoul, it's the same combo over and over. There's no innovation, the deck plays itself etc.
@@TheJamieellis where is the inovation in old yugioh, its just a game of who can get to their bost monster the fastest. and it was like that for YEARS also no its not a function cus you can interupt with HT your opponent or be like tearlament. and most boards are breakable, playing through a negate and a banish is not hard unless you play garbage.
@@sobbles6242 The innovation was coming up with ways to survive multiple turns, setting up your plays until you had a pop-off turn to try and flip things in your favour, or slowly grinding things out, deciding which resources to spend, how badly do you want to commit to things etc Yes, the function is "I do my reliable, one card combo. Do you have an out? Yes? I counter it. Can you counter my counter? You can? I counter your counter. Anymore? No? I win. GG. Go next" to that effect. And because things are so unbelievably fast now, it's not like old YuGiOh where one bad turn wasn't the end of the duel. But nowadays? If you can't counter the enemies board AND pull off your combo? You just lose.
@@TheJamieellis the inovation now is still there, instead of it being in game, its in deckbuilding. if i play this card this will let me better counter this card but i dont do much against other cards. also countering stuff is just as hard as it is in goat format, if you dont draw the card that wins the game your dead. old yugioh is also a function, its just more drawn out and way more sacky. end a bad turn in new yugioh doesnt really exist if you play the meta decks because they are increadably consistent and good at playing through stuff exemple being spright or tear. its not do i have a counter its how do i counter the board which most time doesnt put up alot of interuptions.
Old yu gi oh is better because it's simpler but with new yu gi oh you have much bigger variety of archetypes plus old cards like gaia and black luster soldier have gotten support which make using those archetypes more satisfying so I'd have to say new yu gi oh because I love using my gaia and black luster soldier decks now than before they got their support
I like playing old school decks with modern support like buster blader, dark magician, blue eyes and all the other basic ones but me and my friends just play casually without hand traps and it makes it more fun because those archetypes don’t have a whole lot of negates without handtraps so you are typically able to still play through a whole board setup
@@EBlade3529 here’s an idea let people play how they prefer because in the end me casually playing with my friends doesn’t effect u… L comment kid go be negative somewhere else
Have to say, aside from the trite statements that has been said already, I love the use of the Extra Deck, so I only really started liking Yu-Gi-Oh as a game to play when Synchro came about, because I absolutely hated that the Fusion deck was useless, unless it was cheated out via Magical Scientist, Metamorphosis, Instant Fusion, etc making 1/4th of the game that I really liked useless. During the GX era, I forced my deck to be able to fuse with Jaden's cards, but they're so useless cause not only the Fusion method is bad, but the monsters you get out of them dies to a single interaction, making them not worth the use, so the Hero variant used was Diamond Dude turbo. Hell, I really like the other cards coloring so much, I also played a ritual focused deck. So yeah, it was the Synchro era, especially the later days of it, that made me love Yu-Gi-Oh. I was playing a Dark Warrior Synchro spam back then.
Both have good things about it. Old Yu-Gi-Oh is what I grew up with and had alot of fun memories with my friends and family. While modern Yu-Gi-Oh while confusing and frustrating with all the tools to make sure your opponent doesn't play. Which on a personal level isn't fun
My only issue with old school Yugioh is confiscation into delinquent duo into forceful sentry into set trap dustshoot. It didn't happen super frequently but I wanted to swing whenever it did
My favorite format to play is actually Edison, which is kinda old school because a lot of the power cards are still legal but the pace of the game isn’t as slow as a sloth. I do enjoy setting up a board of negates though, probably toxic but it’s pretty fun to pop off in modern Yu-Gi-Oh.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher Edison is probably the biggest alt format other than GOAT currently on available. It’s based on the last SJC (Shounen Jump Championship) ever, which took place on April 24-25, 2010. It’s basically one of the last formats before XYZ monsters got introduced, so you can think of it as one of the final Synchro formats ever in the game. Cards like Cold Wave, Heavy Storm, Morphing Jar, Dark Armed Dragon, Trap Dustshoot, and Pre Errata Goyo Guardian are all legal at 1, if you want to know some “broken” cards still legal.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher there is a huge variaty of decks, you can make alot of cool jank, you have access to the extra deck and beat down is verry playable. its pretty explosives but not as much as new ygo its in my oppinion the best yugioh format off all tim.
New yugioh with friends who are using bad/slow decks is my preferred way to play. It has the 30 turns duels of old yugioh would but more unique and interesting.
Probably not the most well liked opinion around here, but I'm actually team new Yu-Gi-Oh! People tend to forget that the meta back then was toxic too, and just remember the fun they had with janky decks from their childhood. Yes, the meta is terrible right now, but there are so many fun decks with cool combos and synergies, and you can actually come back from things, instead of having to rely on one draw at a time to bail you out. The argument is always that old Yu-Gi-Oh! had better back and forth, but I feel like the combos nowadays are actually what enable it. When you get shut out in Goat format, you're done, if you don't draw on some Yugi type level. Also what's up with the stray bullets at Deion ^^
This, 100% Most people who say 'Old Yugioh' only ever played casually. They didn't experience the frustrations of consistent FTKs with no real ways to interact with them. The dumb 'you cant play' locks that could be splashed into any meta deck. The ridiculous amount of games that were decided by who flipped a floodgate and stuck a big guy first. They played casually with friends and enjoyed long grindy back and forths because neither player was playing the most broken decks, abusable, or unfair decks. They were just playing the cards they owned in whatever mishmash they wanted. Now they log into master duel and get a taste of the modern version of the unfair bullshit that has ALWAYS been in yugioh and assume it's something new and didn't exist back when they played.
I really like the pacing of old school yugioh, but the current format is more interesting. Even though we're in a tier 0 format, in casual enviroments there's so much variety of decks.
@@sobbles6242 It is fun, at least compared to previous formats, theres so much more interaction, because the player going second can actually go for plays turn one and it's not just a game of winning the die roll.
I love how he just left at the end LMFAO! Also yea, I never played new yu-gi-oh and I will never play a card game that allows you to summon 1000 times on one turn.
The game honestly hasn't changed much. There's a few more negates and longer combos but also more ways to play around it, the banlist is still garbage and some really toxic cards are legal and included in basically every deck. We just traded things like Delinquent Duo and Trap Dustshoot for Maxx C.
old yugioh you couldnt even summon blue eyes white dragon sometimes. the fun of old yugioh was you had few strong cards and it was satisfying to actually be able to get them out because it was difficult to do so. modern yugioh every card is a strong card and they can all be summoned turn one there's no satisfaction in getting out your strongest card.
@@allisterfield6028 Most of old yugioh is locks and FTK's though, what you're thinking of is playground yugioh which is MUCH different than old school yugioh.
@@allisterfield6028 blue eyes? That card not great card. A Single traphole then u go minus 2. Old ygo more like strong staple like pot of greed and duo + envoy. Or strong vanila monster like la jin or Summoned skull. So dark magician and red eyes Immediately a trash card and power creep in first released.
Not saying that you can't enjoy it, but the "back and forth" of old Yu-Gi-Oh is literally the "back and forth" between two players with brick hands. Rouge vs Rouge new Yu-Gi-Oh isn't dependant on who goes first and the monster effects and interactions are more interesting.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher that and gimmicky FTKs or summons of cool boss monsters, that actually feel like anime moments are the coolest to watch. Even as the opponent you're wondering wether they'll succeed or not.
@@Honest_Mids_Masher Most of old yugioh was NOT unique, especially around GOAT format, every deck played the EXACT same 15 cards and whatever else they wanted to play, usually Chaos monsters considering they were extremely strong at the time. New yugioh is far more diverse and unique than old yugioh.
I prefer the old, grindy style over the new "game is over by turn 3" style by a LOT. It had a lot more careful planning and thinking during the duel than the current comboing into your win condition immediately/solitaire.
Both are fun but i kinda like new yugioh because it makes me think of ways to dismantle the board step by step with decks i enjoy and thanks to master duel i can just play both styles against my friends depending on our mood
Peak Yugioh was probably around the later Synchro era and early Xceed era, with links arguably destabilizing the entire extradeck with am assortment of cards that keep being banned because they're too good cheesing mechanics. Though I will admit, GX floodgate (and some DM floodgates) are terribad.
I’m more of an old school duelist even though I enjoy some of the elements of newer Yugioh. Old Yugioh never made me want to spend half a check on a deck to make others feel the pain I have felt.
@@lilnuke33 those are old yugioh decks that were tier 0 and super unfun, tele-dad was a pricy mess that almost killed yugioh. although glads are pretty cool
Oh no you got me conflicted. I really like old yugioh but i really enjoy new yugioh as well because combo feels amazing and natural but i really like the go backward and forward
Old Yu-gi-oh. I mean, my frieneds and I all quit dueling and gave away our decks because of how un fun it feels right now. The back and forth was so fun and even if the duel ended up still being a lock out it was a multi turn lockout so you had chances to come back and when you did it felt SO GOOD! I play master duel now and then still but the deck is deck old school and as soon as I get to the multi combo ohko rank that is easily obtained then I just quit till the rank resets.
OLD Yugioh is the truth. The simplicity of the quick turns and older boss monsters is what makes it pure. Not this, oh I went first let me set 4 negates on the field and win that way.
People are like old school is more fun but forget that it also means playing against cards like delinquent duo, confiscation an trap dustshoot. Also while yes old school yugioh tends to have more turns they tend to be mostly set pass making it take almost the same time as modern yugioh game but instead of setting and passing they do all their plays in one to a few turns.
Lol. I much rather deal with those 3 cards than modern day yugioh. The problem with modern day yugioh is the amount of one card engines in the SAME deck.
I miss the old Yu-Gi-Oh! because it required strategy and planning ahead, playing your cards wisely and figuring out how to counter your opponent or getting out of a nasty situation when the game suddenly goes against you. Also with the old school Yu-Gi-Oh!, players made theme decks: Strategy, beat down, luck; etc. Now a days with the constant changing of the rules and how the game is played, it’s like players are making decks aimed to make duels fast and short. Because of all these constant changes, I’ve been forced to retire my dragon deck. I prefer the the old school because the duel took time and made things fun.
Nah I've always been an old Yugioh guy, but this is what solidifies it 🤣 TWO Solemn Judgements and so many good spells/traps/monsters only to counter your out every time like a true villain 😭
Honestly, yugioh up to the mid 2010s was great, but then they started making cards that allowed u to draw when summoned or discarded, and then they gave those cards negates which not only allow u to set ur field, but prevent ur opponent from doing anything. It's not bad if it's 1 of the 2, but when a deck has both its no longer fun
I recently been playing Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force on a PSP emulator & honestly old school Yu-Gi-Oh is so much more fun, then modern Yu-Gi-Oh. Sure, I do have some frustrations playing the game, but at the same time it's more relaxing & fun, then newer Yu-Gi-Oh rules & cards. I did try playing Yu-Gi-Oh in Duel Links, but there are so many confusing new card effects for Yu-Gi-Oh cards, that I just couldn't get into it. I honestly stopped caring about Yu-Gi-Oh after GX TV series, but in recent years I just got back into it out of nostalgia sake. I even own the entire DVD collection of the original Yu-Gi-Oh anime. Yeah the Dub is cheesy, but it's not the worst dubbing in the world either. As for the card game itself, I just play older video games with older rules. I do have a physical Yu-Gi-Oh deck as well, but I haven't used it in years, since some cards were bought from Germany & I can't read any of them, while other cards are from the old Structure Deck I bought in 2004 that are English. I honestly really enjoy watching people play classic Yu-Gi-Oh, instead of the current one.
Perhaps Rhyme should start a small duel room tournament 8 people duel in best 2 out of 3 until only one remains, and only allow GOAT cards (except for any 3 cards of the duelists' choice).
To me it doesn't matter which way yugioh is played because there still similar on a core level that being based on get the combination of cards to preform your play, its just a matter of if you want it to go slower or faster.
