I appreciate your exploration of our common past, but the DNA markers they manged to find in the Cheddar skeleton did not allow the scientists to confirm either eye or skin colour. This meant that the man could have been any colour. When this was pointed out to them, they basically said; "We don't know that he had darker skin, but we don't know that he didn't either", You have stated their chosen conclusion as fact, when it was an arbitary opinion. In addition, you talked about his family and like coloured community. There is no evidence of such wider comunity of darker skined people at that time in Britain. The whole excercise had more of the flavour of a publicity stunt, I wish you success in your enterprise, but don't belive everything you are told, just because it came from a respected institution. Remember, we are known as "Perfidious Albion" for a reason.
Thanks for your comment! It is MOST PROBABLE, according to the best DNA research that we have available (and just like I said in the video:) that his eyes were blue and his skin dark brown. You are correct in stating that little in prehistory is ever 100%, (the name of the brontosaurus has changed several times with updated findings) but I would politely argue that you are not correct in saying it was arbitrary and a 50/50 guess, no way. It may come out in the future that his skin was one shade lighter or even one shade darker, just as the date of the first humans arriving in Europe keeps getting pushed back with new discoveries every year. That’s just how science works, we present the MOST likely answer based on what we have; and the most likely conclusion, MUCH more likely than not, is that he had dark skin and blue eyes. Arbitrary? Absolutely "bullocks", as you say in Britain, haha. It’s the opinion of the best DNA researchers and anthropologists we have. This is no small deal! We aren’t 100% sure that the blue stones at Stonehenge were brought from Wales, but we are pretty darn sure as all the evidence points to it. History, books and RU-vid work like this, we present what’s MOST PROBABLE because that’s, well, usually what we have!!! Second, it is my understanding that there IS evidence that the Cheddar Man is representative of a wider community of people (why would there be only one running around alone in a sea of whites anyway-doesn’t make sense), and that his group of people was eventually displaced leaving behind about 10% of their DNA in the typical Brit of old British descent. So in conclusion, I def appreciate any comments but would challenge some of what you say. Of course, we shouldn’t believe everything we are told, and even findings by Cambridge and Oxford should be subject to debate and peer review forevermore, and can evolve (no pun intended). But I think there is much value in the work of DNA scientists and anthropologists and that their conclusion about what was MOST LIKELY are interesting and stirring. Not as much a publicity stunt as they finally found a good publicist for when they discover something big! It’s not easy making science not boring :). I congratulate them.
