403 Olds Powered Jetboat first start after bottom end rebuild. This is the conclusion where I put in new bearings, and crank, then reinstall in the boat and fire it up. We also go for a test drive to see how it performs.

Those oil clearances for the mains are on the very tight side as well as that one rod at half a thou. Did u put new timing chain and gears in it. The chain looked a little loose.

So if they are in spec, what do you consider on the tight side? Also the gears did not seem to have much wear so I sent it. The chain did not seem that bad to me, but I have not done a ton of these so my judgement may be off?

@fixer2u As for the chain slack it looked a little loose. I did a chain and gears on a gen6 big block chevy. The new chain had as much slack as I took off. Bought another one from a different manufacturer and that one was nice and tight. I think the loose one was dyna gear. Second one was cloyes. I try to stick to .0025 for all my clearances. Used to work at a shop and we ran into this alot. We would put the crank on the lathe and polish the journal with a crank polisher to get them all where we wanted them. Albeit we used a mic and not a caliper. But you gotta use what you got. Did you take apart the oil pump and clean the metal out of it or get a new one.

@@tjs_welding_and_fabrication Ahh ok I see. Well like you said, I had to work with what I had. Yeah my caliper measurements may not have been the most accurate. A mic is on my things to get list, just have not gotten there yet! I did clean out the oil pump, there it not seem to be much in there, there were a lot of bigger chunks caught by the screen. I meant to cut apart the filter just so see what was in there, but never got to it. I think I have it laying around still so I may still do that just to see! Thanks for the comments,. For what it's worth, I had the boat out this past week and it ran really well. I got it up to 57 on the lake and no matter how ling I ran it, it held 60psi oil pressure when hot so hopefully it will last me a while!
