Although I am a fan of today's liquid, neurofunk and atmospheric scene, the Drum and Bass of 1993 is much better than the Drum & Bass of 2015.

Same here, I’m 46 and I used to go to the limelight, polyesters, the tunnel all NYC clubs, a few upstate Sputnik shows and shit like that. This mix brings me back to that time in my life. Raw beats, floating high hats, snappy snare

What was in the water in 1993! Another cracking mix of some of the most mentally and physically uplifting electronic music of the last 30 years. I was there and still love it today. You can dance or just sit back and listen. It is wonderful stuff...that first track is Nut-E-1 Liquid Affray is INCREDIBLE. I never heard it before - thats the second top class tune I heard for the first time today (the other was VEXXED by DJ FOKUS). KEEP THE MIXES COMING. We are all listening and loving every second...cheers.

Watching him spin ragga jungle was pure mastery of his instruments (t.t.'s and a mixer). It was truly a a lesson in knowing your instrument, like Monk on the piano, or Davis on the horn. Same level of precision and intuition. A THING TO BEHOLD!!

InternalMind The emotion ... This is why i love DnB . Im 15 and im starting off producing music such as hardtek ,spytrance and dnb/jungle .I'm absoluteley sick of the shit people in my school listen too even a lot of the underground fans i know have started listening to generic boring music . Because of this i make it my aim to bring oldschool of all sorts back but harder and stronger . Cant wait to tear up the raves once i leave home :D !

Ed Reid Theres litterally psytrance parties just in front of my house like 15 times a year some of them have serious sound systems and smaller ones in the surrounding area . Suprisingly Ireland is actually quite good on the rave side of things compared to some places , its also a good habitat for the liberty cap mushroom one of the best drugs on the planet because its full of psilocibin and so easy to find . You only need like 70-80 in a tea for an lsd power trip , and it takes about 5 hours to find about 400-500 in the mountains . Even though im not Irish , ireland will always be part of me because of its psychedelic goodness . :D

Maybe if you are lost and you fall down a rabbit hole... which can always happen if you eat enough of those shrooms, which are now actually hard to get, not because they are in short supply, but the beloved Gardi are guarding where they come up, and in certain places are even trampling them, Something I have seen with my own eyes. I remember back in Denver circa 1994 at Ralph's skate shop on Colfax Ave. when I met RAW and saw how he would make his mixes. Incredible!! He had samples laid out across an old EMU sampler and would put together by playing different keys, a whole mixed tape and it would sound just like a table mix (those too were epic; small Denver house parties) EPIC!!

this will sound completely generic and its a long shot but you seem to know your old school dnb. I'm chasing a track off a cd i had years ago that was nicked. it was dark drum n bass and it had minimal vocals with something like "just disappear" throughout the track. also possibly some sirens at some stage in the song. anybody have any idea what I'm talking about?

Wrong... Happy hardcore came later, just because a few hardcore breakbeat tunes have pianos & melodies it doesnt mean it's happy hardcore... Acid house - techno - house - hiphouse - ragga house- jungle/DnB is more or less the order it all started, as for this being jungle.. the only reason you'd think it was jungle is because of the Mainstream CD compilation titles which were entitled by the wankers in the Media industry who still fuck things up today, they just throw stuff together & brand it.

No jungle here mate, i dont do jungle, it's not my fault that corporations throw everything together in some chavy "Jungle Massive!" CD compilation & brand it as jungle, jungles more rap & reggae samples.. this is more dark DnB & it's from 1993.. late 1992 already had DnB forming...reason they called it dnb in the 1st place is because people were making tunes with less vocals & musical samples... & that made it more fun to mix, hardcore n rave tunes had remixes. ie "Drum n Bass remix"

This is a bit odd... I tried the download link, as this mix is well worth keeping, the filename of what I downloaded was 'Oldskool Dark Drum amp Bass 1993 mix.mp3.exe'. Not fussed about the spelling, it's that fact that the file had an .exe file extension and only 297kb that worried me. I've just tried the download link again and the file is correct as you say... damn ghosts in the machine. Anyway thanks for posing a great mix fella, I was 18 and raving in '93 so this takes me back :D

Happy Hardcore came on the scene in 95/96 and hit its peek 96/98......bottom line its all the same damm music and depending on how old you are is gonna depend on what you call it. Bottomline producers just made music, and didnt give a fuck what it was called. Only people who are in their 30's can understand what Im saying...everyone needs stop actin like they know shit on youtube and just enjoy music.

You had HArdcore in early 90's - producers didnt name it. In 93 it was hardcore / Jungle, by 95 you had Jungle / Drum N Bass. Jungle / Drum N Bass is the same damm thing. In the early days there were fights and violence in the clubs, this was associated with Ragga Jungle, from 95 early 2000's it was Jungle / DrumNBass. DrumNBass was a more commercialized term, to break away from the violence associated with Ragga Jungle

It's called "dark" as it's a term (within DnB) to describe the dark moods and influences for creating the tracks. Fast light drum patterns (snares, Amens), heavy continuous background synths (like at 15:45), etc. Imagine the music played in the background of a sci-fi film like Aliens, games like Dead Space, etc, Does that answer your question?

Im trying to find an old live mix DSL did way back. The intro is a jungle tune I can't name that uses a vocal sample of "Stoned Love" repeated & layered with a 60's guitar. The vocal is lifted from The Supremes. This set used to be on the net long ago but I can't track it down, im certain it's Dieselboy, and thought it was Bass Rush but not the same. Anybody with the knowledge?

Please can you tell me the track's name at 55:49?? With the sample "J'ai peur" (i'm scared ine french) I searched everywhere (Moving Shadow, Reinforced, Suburban Base, Bear necessities, White Horse records, ULR, Rugged Vinyl) but i can't find, i'm very desperate!!!

Fuckin' good mix! I love it! Can you tell me the title of the track started at 22m, and at 55m48? With the sample "J'ai peur" (i'm scared in french). Sorry if i don't write english very well, i'm from belgium :)
